Umm except the DREAM Act is essentially providing a road for illegal aliens to become legal citizens, responsible for paying taxes like the rest of us. By giving that illegal alien the discount for two years of college, that alien will become a taxpaying american like you and me, and there will be more money for discounts in the future.
The DA will encourage more illegal immigration leading to a repeat of the current situation and an attempt at DA 2, DA 3, and so on. And, all those amnesties will have the impact of taking college educations from U.S. citizens no matter the supposed payoff down the road.

Colleges, via state leaders, have already long allowed this. Georgia gives illegal children 'in-state' tuition. I don't know if thats changed recently, but its a trend.

The DREAM act would only provide help for children who were brought here by their parents before they were old enough to make decisions for themselves! It only allows aid for immigrants students who have been here for at least 5 years and who were brought here by their parents before their 16th b-day - aka, before they are of age to even have most legal rights in this country.

3) Priority for Financial Aid and tuition and what not always goes to the Student with the higher grades, standardized tests and how much they are in need. Most likely the illegal immigrant families dont make so much money, but i can bet the ones applying that are giving this type of competition have higher grades and test scores to that of the citizen applying. If its a given that the immigrant is sucessful, and the citizen is likely to be a homeless man, why not give it to the immigrant?

If you're an illegal alien, you're presumably a citizen of Brazil, not of the U.S. Ask Brazil (or whatever) to give you an education. Umm except the DREAM Act is essentially providing a road for illegal aliens to become legal citizens, responsible for paying taxes like the rest of us. By giving that illegal alien the discount for two years of college, that alien will become a taxpaying american like you and me, and there will be more money for discounts in the future.

State versions of the DA let illegal aliens pay a lower rate than U.S. citizens from other states, and a CA proposal would have given illegal aliens grants. The first is actually illegal, but it isn't enforced.
The *federal* DA had a provision letting the states off the hook for their violation of federal law. It was removed, but it will probably come back.
And, since there are only a limited number of slots available, any slot going to an illegal alien is one that won't go to a U.S. citizen.

In fact, since they'd be more likely to be living in poverty than some American applicants they may be more deserving of one. Colleges, via state leaders, have already long allowed this. Georgia gives illegal children 'in-state' tuition. I don't know if thats changed recently, but its a trend.

The DREAM act would only provide help for children who were brought here by their parents before they were old enough to make decisions for themselves! It only allows aid for immigrants students who have been here for at least 5 years and who were brought here by their parents before their 16th b-day - aka, before they are of age to even have most legal rights in this country.

3) Priority for Financial Aid and tuition and what not always goes to the Student with the higher grades, standardized tests and how much they are in need. Most likely the illegal immigrant families dont make so much money, but i can bet the ones applying that are giving this type of competition have higher grades and test scores to that of the citizen applying. If its a given that the immigrant is sucessful, and the citizen is likely to be a homeless man, why not give it to the immigrant?

I'd suggest you encourage the countries of which they're citizens to "look deeper" and care about their own citizens, instead of encouraging them to move to the U.S. I'd also suggest you "look deeper" into the implications of U.S. politicians supporting taking things from U.S. citizens in order to give them to citizens of other countries. That is a direct attack on U.S. citizenship and should not be tolerated if we intend to maintain our current political system.

There is no reason to choose illegal aliens over U.S. citizens, and fundamental reasons having to do with preserving the fundamental structures of our political system to choose U.S. citizens over illegal aliens.

How does giving financial aid to illegal aliens subvert the "fundamental structures" of our political system? Do you mean undermining bigotry? You do realize that the previous periods in our history when certain populations were barred from entering the country have been categorized as racist?

When you take something from a U.S. citizen in order to give it to a foreign citizen who's here illegally, you're subverting what it means to be a U.S. citizen: they're forced to take a back seat to illegal aliens. I certainly don't expect everyone to understand that, and, of course, I certainly expect some on the far-left/libertarian side of things to have no interest in abstract concepts like citizenship.

hmm. mature. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but I really don't like it when humanitarian efforts are framed solely as nationalistic efforts (check the video's rhetoric) - we become complacent with our own culture and forget about its bi-directional relationship with the rest of the world....I especially don't like it when people resort to expletives to convey their opinions. But hey, if lacking the skills to articulate a comeback makes you happy....then whatever.

News Flash: America IS a nation. With real people and a real history. It is not some globalist petri dish. I get real tired of folks who say that every nation has a right to its own culture EXCEPT America, which must take in every influence no matter how vile. The idea that citizenship whould make no difference in determining financial aid is f*cked up and wrong. That argument would be laughed out of every other country on Earth.
