  • beautiful,but please read:*

Many shipping pallets can have TOXIC/DANGEROUS materials in them from whatever was moved on them ( acids, etchants, etc) that may've spilled..

even if the place you got it from didn't ship toxic things, the pallet may* have other history. be sure you KNOW it..! i used to re-purpose them too like this...

  • great video!!

    tabyaart.com

  • I wish I knew how to do all of that and had the equipment to do that ,,great video

  • what kind of sander are you using in this clip?

  • Most of my work is done from cast offs - I picked up a large leg of a damaged dining table made of walnut today, setting by someone's trash. It's going to get new life as new turnings. Pallet wood has to be scrutinized for nails and staples.

  • Respecting the integrity of the wood, the beginning of the wood and the craftsmanship in the finished product makes for a true eco artisan.

    Just lovely.

  • 1 Timothy 2:3-4 this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

  • I have been making and selling jewelry made from "sustainable" sources for years. I don't want to use crap from china or anything that had to do with cutting down rain forests or pit mining.

So we use power tools. We can't be 1o0% all the time. AND we can't live in the Stone Age. We must make concessions everywhere. As long as we are truly trying to make LESS of an impact. THAT is all that counts.

Unfortunately, we will always be bombarded by a barrage of idiocy from a confederacy of dunces.

  • Stuning works!

  • i think im in love

  • Why is it that architects are synonymous with jewelry making?

This girl is a wonderuful inspiration for me. I am an aspiring architect and full of etsy-prime projects too.

  • Hopefully as an Architect you don't design crap like the people here in central Texas do for a base that's located near by. Things such putting screws ever 2" on center in a window frame. >.>

  • I do agree with hayyalife, ... and to the other guy ... just to be a human contaminates the planet, so its better to invest in a machine to make fun, intelligent projects that instead of buyin . for example .. pre.wood brazalets... cmmon.....

  • you say that you want to be environmentally responsible, yet you use all kinds of machines to make your jewelry... : /

  • What is she supposed to do? Whittle it by hand?

Her responsibility to the environment is in using recycled wood instead of newly forested wood.

  • and you sit at a computer terminal powered by electricity next to a hard drive that is filled with toxic metals, connected by either:

    A) physical cables also containing many hazardous materials, or

    B) wire less which relies on satellites that use fossil fuels, toxic metals and creates "space junk" forever in orbit... and you complain about someone else being "environmentally responsible"???

  • yes, but I'm not advertising myself as being environmentally responsible

  • my comment was made to the person who critisized the artist...

I think the artist is doing a fantastic job reusing/recycling discarded items!

  • i really like the concept of etsy, but i just think that using mass produced tools to create these handmade things is a bit contradictory

  • I disagree; many handmade items are made with "mass produced tools". It's being HAND-MADE...not "primitive" made ( there is a place for that too). Many woodworkers use electric drills, saws, sanders, jewelers do the same...many others as well. Your dentist uses mass produced drills/tools...is his/her work any less done "by hand"? You are missing the point of the idea of "hand made".

  • For me hand made especially in our historical context is a response against mass-production and materialism. So using materials and craft bought at let's say Joanne's or using tools from The Home Depot kind of defeats the idea that the "means must justify the end." However you're right, its a necessary compromise since the companies have already won and we have no choice but to use their own tools to overcome them. Bite the hand that feeds you. I love it ;]

  • @RevMcworld the great master craftsmen of history used the most advanced tools of their day, they would use power equipment as well if it were available in their time.

the tool only facilitates the work, the art is in the hands of the maker.

  • every little bit counts. It's amazing how people miss the point and go from the sublime to the ridiculous. Your work is thoughtful and beautiful. And, ah yes...inspiring. I was wrestling between making resin jewelry and wood jewelry from reclaimed wood and now I have my decision.

  • you just left a board of wood with a rusty nail facing up in a parking lot....good job lol

  • do you have any idea of the chemicals used to make everything in that shop you are working in..... idiot

  • what is your problem?

    definition of idiot -

"person so mentally deficient as to be incapable of ordinary reasoning"

so who is the idiot here?

  • yeah. harsh terms.

zero does have a point though.

the treatment that that pressure treated wood goes through is pretty toxic.

Until 2003, chromated copper arsenate was used to preserve pressure treated wood. They now use less toxic compounds, but who knows....

I would do a bit of research before calling people names...

  • I completely agree with you, except for the fact that the wood I'm using has not been pressure treated in any way, which is exactly why I use it. Thanks for the feedback! :)

  • amazing!

  • Awesome Work!

  • beautiful and inspiring!

  • beautiful

  • Awesome!

  • good vid, how about a comlete project. thanks.

  • like my woodshop teacher would say "wood is good" LOL.

    loved it.
