Did no one in this show realize that Hamel was leading a normal life in Staccato while the barrier was up? The only thing it did was make his horn go away. So they should have been able to reason that he wouldn't turn to stone now...
exactly. and why Oboe, who was one of the powerfullest hell kings and who's still a pure mazoku, is not turned to stone. This black flap-flap thing was even on the shoulder of the queen.
If the manga is absolutely crazy, it's still coherent. but the anime is even not credible, sign of poor budget.
You know....I thought about this too as well.. Maybe cause they're too busy with the war and army and soldier and protecting their future Queen and all...maybe they would remember....

Actually, I don't see why the stills are so bad. The art's great, as are the voice actors.
IMHO, I think the stills allow you to focus on the story instead of the ooh so purdy effects and stuff.

The studio was given a shoestring budget, so it's not that they're too lazy to animate everything, they just can't.
