Because medicare covers some people, medicaid other people but there are a lot of people that are not covered by any of those two. So the "public option" would cover everyone. Unless you prefer private insurance companies.

Employers not giving their employees health care? I think $100 a day is very considerate. If you provide private health care to your workers then you are excused. Otherwise you are being an asshole and it's ok that you get fined. I live in a country with a public option. I can afford private health care, but I also get plenty of benefits from the public one. It is in the US (and very bad countries where there's almost no civilization) that only the rich get decent health care.

Yeah i already answered that question with answers from hr 3200 1016 page report but my comments are being erased. civil penalties include 100 dollar a day fine for any employer who doesnt sign on to this so called optional plan. i agree something needs to be done with healthcare but this is not the answer. not even close.

I live in Costa Rica, a country very similar to the US in its democratic tradition. We have Social Security here (the public option), it is surely not the best system ever, but it means no matter what, that everybody gets health care. Little poor children here can have their heart transplants because of it. I have always felt sorry for americans not having what almost everybody else in the world has. You are being manipulated by the rich to make you believe health is socialism.
