...Probally The Greatest Album to Listen to while Drving During The Evening is "Hero,Hero",(& also Made in Japan/Deep Purple),The Whole Album/(or RockaRolla, sin after sin& sad wings of destiney) is/are an Epical Anthem!
priest played far more interesting stuff early on, before they switched to the popular, simplistic metal rhythm guitar lines, dumbing the songs down. rocka rolla is their best album, to me, anyway.
So, now that Judas Priest nowadays plays "uninteresting music", this old sound is absolutely great! "Rocka Rolla" is one of my very best favorite lp's ever!
This is actually in mono, not even stereo...let me try to explain true 'quadrophonic' sound. Imagine 4 speakers, one in each corner of a room; the guitar pans in circles one speaker at a time, then bounces from L.front/R.rear to R.front left rear then front to back in stereo then side to side in stereo...a cool old 'psychedelic' sound production trick, the proto-surround sound concept! Hendrix himself used this trick on parts of Electric Ladyland, including Voodoo Chile [slight return]
Yes, the first part of this is Deep Freeze! It was actually in 'quadrophonic' sound...that's why you can't seem to hear parts of the solo as it fades and swells...this is a digital stereo repro...the true 'quad' version on the vinyl would pan across four speakers on an X-Y axis, then spin 'leslies'...this was pre- 5.1 surround btw...
this is not the song called Winter Retreat until 1:56 it is Deep Freeze until that part. Deep Freeze is the KK guitar noise solo you hear first. The Winter Retreat part is after it at 1:56

This isn't "Winter Retreat". This is "Deep Freeze" plus "Winter Retreat" together. Two entirely different vibes

This piece sounds similar to Pink Floyd's music from '68-'72. Very interesting song.
