You are amazing! I have watched a lot of your videos .. you explain everything so well.. Thank you for making a difference. We should not condemn all snake as dangerous snakes.. they are very beneficial to our environment. thanks again ! Looking forward to more videos :)
the ridge nose rattler and the twin-spotted rattler are smaller but are very endangered and were discovered much after the pygmy so the pygmy got the name first. or at least i think so cos my book might be wrong...
Oh yeah, let people know not just how big that particular critter is, but how big that species gets. If you know the record lengths quote that. Please do it for every catch. Thanks
Great Stuff!! BUT please mention how BIG each herp is!! As a very experienced wildlife videographer, I've learned this is the question most asked. Keep up the great work!
@reptile4u09 Brandon, you are brilliant! I agree, you should be on TV! Your passion for snakes is great, even if most of us are afraid of them. wonderful!! keep it up.
I just now tried to get in touch with Discovery Channel to suggest that they look at your vids. No luck. You have to register with them and be a producer to talk to them. It's a shame because I think you really could do a good herp show. Maybe your friend who is in your videos could call himself your producer and contact Discovery himself. Good luck.
Brandon this is seriously top notch man! What a drop dead gorgeous snake... holy cow. Great talk you gave too man. If you could show me one of these one day I would be in my glory.
Thanks Joe! They are indeed beautiful, and I would be glad to see if I can get you one or two. They are mostly active in the fall time. As with alot of herps.
Both of the snakes appear to be males, as they have somewhat longer tails than the females, and it is easy enough to see from above when you have a pair of them side by side.
I have also noticed that female Carolina Pygmy Rattlesnakes tend to be more "Cinnamon" in color than the males. You might want to look for that sexual dimorphism in the ones you find also.
I do not see color dimorphism in Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnakes, though.
I am not sure if anyone has ever published anything about the sexual dimorphism, as it is subtle, but, if you have a number of them to compare, you will see it. The males tend to be darker, and have more black coloration, and the females tend to be more cinnamon and lighter.
hey im glad i gave u a good laugh by the way i wanted to kno if u have any spider ball python u dont want?? i want one badly but my money situation isnt working for meV_V
Nope, Im serious, I really want to see one of those some day. Just think though, you guys arent very far from africa which has some unbelievable diversity.
lol yh thats true, once i get a job save some money il traveling the US hopefully love america also your snakes hehe, then australia gotta love australian pythons
Wow beautiful colors on those guys and they sure are twitchy! They act like they are wearing headphones and head banging to music! Excellent video as always Brandon!!
Yes!! I've been waiting for you to get footage of one of these for so long! My all time favorite rattlesnake species east of the mississippi! Ridiculous find bro! Your so damn lucky haha.
Great question! As we know, rattlesnakes origate from central america and spread north and east over a long period of time. There are a couple species that are smaller than others. Like the Arizona Ridge Nosed Rattlesnake. This snake is moderatly small, with a small rattle. Somewhere along the line, the massasauga came along. Most people accually thought this was a Crotalus species until further research. Then the pygmy is the furthest east of the massasauga. I think the mass is the pigs ancest
I thought that was snow on the ground at first lol. Nice find, goin to repticon saturday for my b-day so im looking forward for some really cool things
i live in laurens co. the only place ive been able to find them in SC, atleast upstate is on the other side of greenville out by clarks hill
