Cool, I have never heard of a chicken tractor before! You could rent them out to your neighbours, mow and fertalize at the same time! Makes me want to have chickens again!
I love your chicken tractor, my question is, what's the point of having them eat so much grass, bugs, good stuff, if you still feed them half a bucket of feed?
@MyLittleGreenThumb: it is a homemade gravity-fed system, you can get the watering bowl with valve at most farm supply stores. The rest of it was fashioned from a bucket and greenhouse drip-irrigation tubing. The convenient quick disconnect fittings are from Cole-Parmer, a scientific supply company, the male fittings are at part # 0636040 The female fittings are part # 0636020

@susansrour hese chickens are a mixed breed called Freedom Rangers from freedomrangershatchery(dot)com in Pennsylvania. They are great chickens and dress out to 5-plus lbs at 10-12 weeks. Not as fast as the Cornish Cross, but better tasting.
Did you have any problems with the strength of the cage? I saw one that was about twice as large.. I guess some galvanized steel helps. Nice land! I have 2 acres myself.
@TheSwabbie Only just this past summer did I have a length of wood break--at a knot, of course. An occasional repair is a reasonable alternative to heavier, stronger materials, in my opinion.
Finally ! a video with the coop I need to build ! How big do I need to build it for 25 cornish meat birds? I hope you don't mind me asking. I need help they are going to be
@london1817 oh my your birds are here, sorry I did not get back to you sooner. 50 square feet is big enough for 25 birds, so a 6x8 tractor would be fine
@gmcpcs I used a little giant gravity feed, just like you see in the video. Needs a good volume of water up top (2+ gallons) to provide enough pressure.
@smokingmypot657 I have grown chickens in a run this size for 5+ years, and I have never had any indication of unhappiness from any of my birds--and believe me, I care for them as if they were pets. A bigger run would be too hard to drag around, and this keeps them protected from the coyotes that prowl our pasture.

Such cruelty, packing 30 chickens in an area sized for 6. And then you eat them. Do you kill them yourselves? Make you feel good, killing "stupid chickens" ? People like you barbaric. Hope you get get your foot stuck.
@Treefrogs2 I suppose you do NOT eat ANY chickens at all dipshit? Cruelty? again, I can guarantee you've never been to poultry slaughterhouse have ya.. Idiot.
I really want honey bees!! I have children so I am a little worried about it. We will soon be moving to a dirt road out in the country ( we are just on the edge of the county city line now) Do you have any vids about getting the hives started?
