I love this. Didn't have a clue about the composer. Just stumbled upon it after a google search for the music to the old Hamlet Cigar adverts. A previous comment about sadness and beauty at the same time, hits the nail on the head....well more like a drawing pin being punched home with a pneumatic drill!!!!! one of j.s. bach's best pieces, prolly the best recording of it too. one thing i've always wondered... is it perhaps documented whether 'air' was inspired directly by pachelbel's canon? i know that there is a wealth of information about bach's writing from his sons memoirs, so anyone know? because it sounds to me like bach was trying to replicate the feel of the canon.  both are masterpieces in their own right, and in fact the intro of 'air' is my favorite piece of music in the world.

@ondasuondaable It's obviously part of baroque music. Bach lived from 1685 to 1750. Although he passed away, unfortunately do to cataracts I believe, during the Baroque/Classical transitional era. This being between the times of c. 1730-1760. He is still considered a stereotypic Baroque composer because he wrote his music to that of that time periods understanding of tonality of the time. The two time periods are pretty different, if you did your own research you would understand the difference.
