  • I have loved the stars to fondly to be fearful of the night.

    - Galileo

I used to be scared of the dark when I was young. Then for some reason I decided to overcome it. I would go out into the forest with my dog and lie underneath a pine tree while looking up at the constellations. At first I was nervous, but with my trusty companion by my side I eventually overcame this fear. And then I found a peace and serenity that I have only known on a clear dark night.

  • @NoocracyNow wow. that, that was beautiful. aha

  • Ahhh... Bach and some great images of the heavens above, what a wonderful evening.

  • This is one of the few videos on YouTube that well and truly deserves the million view mark.

  • Can you feel a nostalgic feeling hiting you slowly and accurately in the back of your head?

Can you feel the sensation of surfing thru the different melodies within this?

Can you feel what the author was trying to remind you of AND teaching thru this song?

The class, attention and time spent on this.

Go outside, look at the sky, breathe slowly, feel the size of the sky and the parts of it that lie afar ahead, feel the immensity of the beauty of this sky.

This warmth and relief....is your life.

  • @riodec14 i'm sorry, did you just say it's better not to know music theory? it's quite close-minded to say that. i see your point but you should understand music theory opens new horizons not hide them.

p.s. please excuse my (failed) attempt at showing off etiquette. it's because of the music. x]

  • I love this. Didn't have a clue about the composer. Just stumbled upon it after a google search for the music to the old Hamlet Cigar adverts. A previous comment about sadness and beauty at the same time, hits the nail on the head....well more like a drawing pin being punched home with a pneumatic drill!!!!! I think if your a fan of music then all roads lead to classical. Be it rock, pop, prog, trance, or metal, if the music you listen to moves you then that is all that matters..if it moves you.

  • I want someone play this audio/visual compilation at my funeral. Then noone says a word and they all leave.

  • @Modforhd Sign me up too.

  • @Modforhd In some occasions, the best word is no word. Just sit back, relax, and lisen the silence.

  • @Modforhd lololol

  • @Modforhd and then they go out for taco bell

  • so beautiful

  • This piece seems like it is reflecting on all of humanity from an outside perspective for some reason. Well Bach was the best there ever was

  • Wonderful post, Walvis! I read your explanation of why the tuning is lower. Fascinating. I guess today's instruments must have tighter strings :) At any rate, I have tuned my bass to match this performance, because it feels good to play it.

  • When I hear this something inside of me in the most inner depths of my soul there is a yearning to soar, cry, laugh and to be part of creation as it happens: genuinely and without reserves.

  • Eines der schönsten klassischen Musikstücke überhaupt!

  • @MurielLeland Wieso klassisch?

  • @MurielLeland so wahr..

  • Nearly 20+ people are living in an Asylum as of now.

  • one of j.s. bach's best pieces, prolly the best recording of it too. one thing i've always wondered... is it perhaps documented whether 'air' was inspired directly by pachelbel's canon? i know that there is a wealth of information about bach's writing from his sons memoirs, so anyone know? because it sounds to me like bach was trying to replicate the feel of the canon. both are masterpieces in their own right, and in fact the intro of 'air' is my favorite piece of music in the world.

  • Beautiful...amazing pictures

  • io amo questa musica!!!!la piu bella melodia mai composta....

  • This guy was a genius.

  • I solemnly declare this piece to be the best music ever written by mankind on planet earth.

  • @Walvis2007, you're very welcome, and thank you very much for the correction. I appreciate it, and will most definitely listen to the slow movement from the D Minor Double Concerto when I have a chance.

  • caca

  • This is beautiful, beautiful video. Well done.

  • Heaven's music, love the images with it!

  • I think I remember this piece from an old 1968 television movie entitled "Interlude". I remember just sobbing, not so much from the movie's contents as this music. My parents were enthralled that I "got" it.

  • This piece of music is really wonderful! I've been searching for its name for quite some time after watching "Gifted Hands"...

  • The music really fits with the movie:)

    This sound is perfection

  • I am filled with awe.

  • Just beautiful to listen to, Thanks .

  • Just beautiful to listen to, Thanks alot

  • I too love to hear baroque music performed with period instruments, this is just so clean and lovely. I'm definitely getting your CD!

  • If this could be put to a canvas, it would rival the Mona Lisa. Cheers Walvis2007...all your videos are absolutely magnificent. It's great to hear baroque on the original instruments and arranged as intended.

  • [This music is "beautiful",by that I'm strictly and serious.Reflecting the "masturbation" of deformity in alternative,by that I'm strictly but not serious.]This is not a comment.

  • @djdewtube

    Incorrect.

It was the biologist Lewis Thomas and he said "...I would vote for Bach, all of Bach, streamed out into space, over and over again. We would be bragging of course, but it is surely excusable to put the best possible face on at the beginning of such an acquaintance. We can tell the harder truths later."

  • classic european music, the best of the best

    greetings from italy

  • @ondasuondaable Bach didn't write classical pieces, besides he wasn't even alive during the classical time period. There are significant differences between the two time periods.

  • @jfro1994It's baroque music (1600-1750),WICH IS PART -OBVIOUSLY- OF CLASSICAL MUSIC. Composers of the baroque era include Johann

Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Alessandro Scarlatti, Antonio Vivaldi,

Jean-Baptiste Lully, Arcangelo Corelli, Claudio Monteverdi, Jean-Philippe Rameau

    and Henry Purcell..

  • @ondasuondaable It's obviously part of baroque music. Bach lived from 1685 to 1750. Although he passed away, unfortunately do to cataracts I believe, during the Baroque/Classical transitional era. This being between the times of c. 1730-1760. He is still considered a stereotypic Baroque composer because he wrote his music to that of that time periods understanding of tonality of the time. The two time periods are pretty different, if you did your own research you would understand the difference.

  • @ondasuondaable and you are also incorrect with some of the composers being present in the Classical Era. Handel is also a stereotypical example of the baroque era, not classical. Nobody saw him looking into the future making a symphony using the 4-movement-cycle.

  • @jfro1994 we are saying the same thing in two different ways..because classical music has more meanings..sorry for my english i'm italian

  • @ondasuondaable Hey, it's okay. There are two different time periods, one being classical where it had a better understanding of music. And the baroque time period which had a lesser understanding of music. The pieces written by Bach had more characteristics of the Baroque time era. I do hope that this clears the subject up. You can use an online translator.

  • @ondasuondaable Classical has a dual meaning, as you say, one of which refers to a certain style and repertory, e.g., classical vs. Pop; and one which refers to a defined period in music. So the "classic" example is that people can play renaissance and baroque music on the "Classical" guitar.

  • @Walvis2007 in fact there's a misundertanding between classical period and classical music

  • @ondasuondaable The classical time period contained Classical music. The baroque time period contained Baroque music. The arts continued to progress at fairly the same rate, this including poetry, painting, writing, and music.

  • @jfro1994 Classical has a dual meaning, for example classical guitar.

  • @Walvis2007 And, similarly, Classical Ballet refers to a style of dance that originated in the baroque period, whereas baroque dance refers to the historical-style performance of dance.

  • Such a beautifully soothing piece.

  • I listened to this song like 1000000 times no joke. but each time i still get goosebumps

  • @Tigermantt amazing piece* not sont song dohhhhh

  • *sob sob*

THIS is music in the crappy dawn of "pop"

  • this is hilarious.

carl sagan was a brilliant scientist and space enthusiast, especially interested in exploring extra-terrestrial intelligent life. he was asked about the digital "message-in-a-bottle" humans sent into the galaxy. when asked if he thought it was a good idea to put bach's music in the message he said, "well, we don't want to show off!"

    gotta love it

  • @djdewtube Do you have a source for that?

  • The Universe: nature / god's movie theater.

  • To sit back and gaze through the galaxy, how beautiful is this. The music so relaxing.

  • Dear Jackmunroe...

PS 'Pray-tell'..."What does smh mean, please? Remember, I'm from Australia...!!

(Small Minded Hicks?) Is that right? A good guess?" di

  • @aussiechickdiana smh means shakes my head. (:

  • @bxlovebx I t s?!

  • Dear hembetan, I offer you my apologies....I didn't direct my comment to you...just 'referring' to a family member with whom I have many 'discussions' re the Divine Creator's existence or no. Hope you have a very, Happy Christmas.. Nice to have 'met' you.

    diana

  • After listening to this and to their rendition of the Pachelbel's Canon, Voices of Music is becoming my favorite baroque ensemble.

  • lovely...

  • Esta canción es sencillamente perfecta. Con ella mi mente queda dormida y sólo siento, activa mis sentidos y es posible ver colores con los ojos cerrados mientras se escucha. Mi más profunda admiración para J.S.Bach

  • PEACE FOR EVERYONE

  • Fantastic...

How can anyone deny there is a Divine Creator, when one sees such images and hears such beautiful music...

    diana

  • @aussiechickdiana Yes, I do deny there is a divine creator. But I'm glad you enjoy this masterpiece, just like I do.

  • @aussiechickdiana here we go with the religious nuts who think that God exists because someone wrote a piece of music...smh...

  • @JackMonroe Thanks for your 'comment'. I don't mind being called a 'nut', because nuts were made by God....

ha, ha....please don't take life, or what you see on YouTube...seriously...FYI, I'm usually called a "Pagan", so you can see 'nut', isn't quite so bad...have a nice God-given day...diana

  • i remember this frm the spy who loved me

  • The occasional mordent was a trademark of the day...it is beautiful to hear them spaced so elegantly so as not ot be overdone. And the subtle use of the ritard throughout the piece lends a feel of chamber music to it. This is the best version I've heard...thank you for posting it!

  • Wow, your renditions of every piece I've listened to so far are just absolutely brilliant. This feels and sounds exactly like how Bach would have wanted it to feel and sound. Thanks so much for your work!

  • Wow, your renditions of every piece I've listened to so far are just absolutely brilliant. This feels and sounds exactly like how Bach would have wanted it to feel and sound. Thanks so much for your work!

  • Wow.

Thank you for setting the conditions and performing this piece in this way. It is so beautiful...So moving that tears well up in my eyes.

Is the soundtrack available on physical CD?

  • @Gondring CDs are available through the link in the info section :)

  • @Walvis2007 i swear if we lead a mass expedition into space, this should be the FIRST song on the playlist.

  • @lilblake90

I agree, though I'm sure it'll probably be some crappy overused song instead -_-

  • IF THERE IS AN ADVANCED INTELLIGENT FORM OF LIFE IN THE COSMOS, THEY MUST BE LISTENING TO BACH IN EVERY CORNER OFOUR GALAXY
