She is the best by a clear mile ...she has it all...best voice, interpretation ,acting ability and stage pressence with those ravishing good looks......so much to learn from!!!
I agree with bimmerboy87 Laura is an amazing singer!! BUT Danw Upshaw has an amazing energy and electricity in this aria plus she sing that high C like a goddess
@bimmerboy87 I think Upshaw's dramatics are great, but Claycomb is so honest and her voice has so many nuances that Upshaw's voice misses because she's out of breath from all of her physical exertion. This is just my opinion though. :)
There is NO ONE who sings this like Laura Claycomb. That last note alone is unmatched. The vibrancy and ring in her voice is so captivating. I also think the staging, set design, costuming here is so natural and beautiful. Bravo!
Thank you SOOOOO much for posting this! I said to myself I am NOT watching anything from Rake's Progress with Laura unless I hear this aria, and voila, alas, here it is!
Radiant! I saw this show in Brussel and it was wonderful! I think she sang better the two nights I was there, though. This seemed a little uneven or nervous a few times (small things, like coming in a little late and quality of tone not as beautiful as she can be), but still so exciting. Some tempi feel slow, and she dragged as a result. But the top just sails out - - love Laura Claycomb! Thank you very much for posting this! It brings back great memories.
She's such a great musician. How about that high C. Nailed it!!!

@Lukejoker3 Which recording are you listening to?? Upshaw's intonation is kind of under pitch on the high C at the end of the version I've watched??

Wonderful! This is one of my favourite arias ever. I particularly like this version and Renee Fleming's - both are amazing!
