Read the book many times . Great book; wonderfully written - BUT - although it was " A true account of a multiple murder ...", it was NOT a factual account . Suggest you find "In Cold Blood, a Critical Handbook " . Many scenes and dialogue were invented by Capote . We should not confuse the book, or the movies with the actual event . . it was much worse .
I'm reading the book right now, for my AP English assignment.
I have to say the language and the writing techniques are rather old and hard.
But the story line and also how the whole situations develop is rather intensed and mesmerizing. As far as I have come, I would actually recommend this book.
look my name is josh clutter herb is my great uncle and bonnie is my great aunt my grandfather was always with him and i have pics of them all together a molnth befor that happend i never ment them but i wish i did i thank everyone who watches this vid and does reports on the clutter family thank you....
I've been fascinated by the story and the lives of all of those involved. As sad as I am about the Clutters, I also have issues with capital punishment. I don't feel murderers are born; they are made based on their environment. Perry Smith, based on his horrible upbringing, should have never been diagnosed as sane. It goes to show that a lot of folks on this planet have no business procreating...
...but I did not forget the Clutter family. I am an over the road trucker. I was in a truck stop in Haubstadt, Indiana (near Evansville) on November 15, 2009. At 2am (the approximate time the Clutters were killed) I called for 4 minutes of radio silence on the CB radio...one minute for each family member murdered. Everyone complied and I thanked them. It was the 50th anniversary of this horrible crime.
iv read the book many times through my highschool career and i have no sympathy at all for dick and perry i think they shouldve died more painfully than they did for butchering Herb Bonnie Nancy and Kenyon
Capote wrote a book that changed the style of contemporary writing, I have read it twice. The movie enables us the stark reality and perfectly adapted in black and white images. I have seen it several times. These punks took the lives of contributing members to society, very sad. May the Clutter family rest in peace.
@maverick1976stallion Well, I admire ICB -- I've read it about 15 times over the last 30-odd years -- but don't see how it "changed the style of contemporary writing." Could you elaborate? Not trying to start a fight; I'm just curious:) --
@stevevandien It was the first "faction" book - a factual story written in the style of a fiction novel - that's usually the answer given to your question - maverick might have something else in mind.
@mickigoe Hardly. Check out, for example, Defoe's "Journal of the Plague Year." Also Cowley's "Exile's Return." Also Orwell's work re. the Spanish Civil War. To name just three examples.
"Faction" is not older than history, but neither was Capote a pioneer. Good journalists wrote in this genre long before Capote. Don't get me wrong. ICB is superb. But Capote wasn't creating a new form of literature. Journalists were using such techniques long before Capote's birth.
@mickigoe Whoa ! Didn't know this was a "gotcha" ! I felt sorry for you because maverick seemed to be snubbing you ( probably he knows you ) - I just gave you the answer commonly given to the question. Personally I don't care much for "change the style" pseudo-academic pap - all Iknow is that ICB rocks.
I understand why u have no sympathy for them. I agree very much about Dick. Idk y I said you should sympathize with him. His life was great. he just got real greedy. But perry I truly feel sorry for him. His entire life was very crappy. Worse than you could imagine. When he killed the clutters it was the result of paranoid schizoprenia. The state of Kansas for whatever reason, saw fit to KILL him. The punishment was just spawned from hatred and vengeance without truly acknowledging the details.
i'm soooo happy that there's a person who feels just like me.
i think he was a good man, but placed in bad conditions which simply made him insane. and the fact that he didn't allow Dick rape Nancy and some other things - it shows us that he is not a monster.
I'm sorry you feel that way. You should read In Cold Blood. I mistakingly assumed people who watched this video already have. Anyways, read it...understand the real situation...spread some sympathy for Dick and Perry. Spread some empathy for the Clutters. If you can't after reading, then you should probably take some english classes...
@CalebBart98 perry said he told dewey he killed the women to fix dick for being a coward after all his tough guy talk. later he admitted that he, perry killed them all because he liked hickocks mother to give her peace. dewey has always believed hickock killed the women. he was wrong.
i just found out today that my great grandpa remolded the clutters basement two weeks before they were killed.

I like the way you put this together, and especially the music.

...why so much focus on the pieces of shit, and hardly anything about the victims, their courage, compassion, and goodness, ....

Herb Clutter did not refuse to give Hickock and Smith any money. He gave them all the cash in the house, which wasn't much.

no one who ever read the book or seen the movie
will ever forget these fine people ,the clutters.they
should forget the 2 murderers

Thats funny because the book puts its focus on the two murderers(mostly Perry). It wasn't truly about the Clutters.
