@8276205 Thanks. Yeah, I know. I was pretty tense, but at the time I recorded this (almost 2 yrs ago) I was starting to learn to play the guitar... I think if I redid this cover, it might sound a little different and I might be able to pull it off. Keep watching.
@knottyhotman Nah! I think everybody plays better than me, hehehe... Keep it rocking and you will be better in no time. I started learning to play 2 and a half years ago, so, if I can do it, everybody can. Thanks!
Thank you! Yeah, I love the way the Ventures used to do that section of the song, but still, Dick Dale is still the master of tremolo picking. He is awesome.
Yeah! I remember my dad playing a Ventures tape in the car whenever we were on a road trip with him... he would play it for hours on end... I never got tired of them... now my band covers a lot of their tunes... timeless!
Dude, you are really good. After just watching a few others interpretation of this song, you, My man, did it justice. Thank you. I am going to favorite you and see what else you can do. I am very impressed. Keep it up.
yes. I looped the original song in my boss rc20, then ran it thru my amp which already had reverb on it... at the time I shot this I hadn't started to shoot video of more quality... well... maybe later I will shoot this again with better quality...
Thank you. I bet any good player can make my guitar sound like a dream. I'm not a good player, though, I do what I can, but I do love the way this guitar sounds in a live situation... so powerful and clean... Thanks for comenting. Keep watching.
Would there be that much difference in the quality of a Mexican made Fender Strat versus an American made Fender Strat , there's like a 700 dollar difference between the 2, but I've heard some Mexican Fender Strats that sounded great
Well. I know that I am going to get into a lot of trouble with Fender purists... for starters, what you get in any Big Name guitars made in the United States is RESALE value. If you are planning to get a guitar that you are going to play, then go to a music store and try them out. Feel them, compare them. The most obvious place to notice differences in the workmanship are the fret edges... if they feel smooth, then that guitar was cared about while it was being finished and set up. (part 2 next)
Once you've compared the necks and the bodies, proceed to compare the tone. Using the same amp and the same settings, then try different guitars and their different settings... you will be amazed that the tone will be pretty similar, provided that both guitars are made of the same woods. If you are looking for an INVESTMENT, then get a USA made Big Name. Remember: the tone starts behind the guitar: Josh Home plays an Ovation solid body (part 3 coming up next)
Ovation solid body guitars were hated by everybody when they came out back in the 70's. However, the SOUND of Queens of the Stone Age's first album was THAT guitar. Everybody loves Jack White's sound, right? Well, he plays a Vintage Airline guitar. Those things were sold in the States in the 60's as entry level instruments by Valco and National, and they were made of fiber glass and epoxy. Nobody wanted those things until somebody made them famous. The choice is yours, it's all in your ears.
By the way, the guitar that I am playing in this video is a Korean made G&L Legacy. So, you be the judge. Do you like the tone? Well, the tone is in the pickups + the body wood + the fretboard wood + the amp. A lot of people (specially sales people) will emphasyze on the guitar and will forget to mention that the amplifier is also a very important part of the tone. My guitar sounds completely different when I plug it into my Epiphone Valve Junior. So when you think guitars, think amps as well.
Damn good job!.. but plz enlighten me, why dont ppl covering this tune ever use the tremo arm? The 3 springs are in the body, use em! (or bend em like you own em, lol) great post, keep them commin.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it... Well, abt the whammy usage (or lack there of) in this song, since the version a lot of people cover is the Ventures' one, and they did not use the whammy, well, people don't use it... in my case, I have other covers where I use the trem arm very heavily... I love it and everything sounds better when you use it, but for this song, I guess people want to stay pure to the original...
Great job. LOVE your tone. A few months ago I asked you about the Hum Debugger. My wife got me one for my birthday and I love it. I do not notice much tone change, just no more hum. You are a great player and you should do dome shows if you are not already.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Isn't the hum debugger a very neat little thing? I really love that box! I'm glad you had one for your bday... And for the shows, well, I just started jammin' with a couple of buddies and we are looking forward to do a couple of songs in front of an audience... we'll see how it goes... wish me luck! Cheers!

Wow! Thanks a lot! I should be really honored that you compared my playing to that of the great lead guitarist of The Shadows! Thank you, really, thank you!
Awesome guitar performance. I have played electric and acoustic guitar for about a half of a year now. I have a Jasmine by Takamini acoustic guitar and an Epiphone Les Paul Standard plus (Cherry Red). I use a Line 6 Spider III 120 watt amplifier. You are an awesome guitarist (way better than I am) and I am definately learning this song.
Thanks mate. Keep the good work and keep practicing, cuz that is the secret, practice. Yeah, I really like this guitar, which is not stock anymore, at least the pickups. Thanks again and keep watching! Check the rest of the channel and see if you find anything else you like.
Thanks! Oh, and by the way, I have actually been playing for a year and a half. Not half a year. Either way your still better than me. I am learning this song as we speak!!
Fantastic! A great performance, well thought out. Excellent tone, and your pick attack is just right. I like the thumbpick and the lipsticks, and I'm going to copy you if you don't mind:) Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
Thanks! Of course I'm flattered! I am glad you enjoyed it. Cheers! Keep watching and check the rest of the channel to see if you find something else you like...
unless u can use it for any position whether it be the neck or the bridge that same lipstick they sell in every online store that doesnt specify the position
i own a cheap dano 63 reissue that i badly want to replace the pups
I ordered the Seymour Duncan calibrated set from my local music store. You can check the Seymour Duncan site or order the following model at any local music store that carries the Seymour Duncan line: SLD-1N (neck lipstick for Danelectro) and SLD-1B (bridge Lipstick for Danelectro). My pickups are SLS-1N (neck lipstick for strat) SLS-1 RW/RP (middle lipstick for strat) and SLS-1 B (bridge lipstick for strat).
if not, im assuming u went to a tech? haha sry if this sounds dumb but say in a worse case scenario, how would u know FOR SURE that the tech didnt somehow accidentally place the pickups in the wrong positions i.e. bridge p-up somehow gets accidentally put in the neck and vise versa?? is it even possible to do that?? its a question ive always pondered since ill probably never attempt to install pickups of any sort myself (and im a paranoid weed fiend, jk).
I installed them myself. Actually is not that difficult, if you have previous experience with a soldering iron, hehe... The pickups come with a wiring diagram that is very easy to follow, but if you don't feel confident to do it yourself you should take your axe to a tech. Now, with respect your concern about the perfect installation, there is a very easy way to know for sure that your pickups were installed right: the bridge pickup has always a higher output than the neck; it sounds "hotter"
thanks for the advice tho i think ill take it to my tech. his name is Bernie Hamburger-u can find him on youtube or his website. id say hes pretty respectable. he built and set up guitars for george harrison and jimmy page and they say hes the best
and if you get the calibrated set, there will be no problems. I mean, they come perfectly identified and any respectable guitar tech will know the difference, so, don't be concerned, I'm sure your tech will do a great job.
hey how do u get one for both the neck and the bridge? pretty much EVERY online store ive checked doesnt even say if ur buying one for the NECK or the BRIDGE like every other pickup except these....
Yeah! That amp is great... I love it... no mods, all stock and sonds great to me... By the way, I saw your comment in my channel and yes: Estoy mas cerca de mis suenos, la guitarra me ha ensenado que la paz esta en la musica... la guitarra es un instrumento tan noble...

Muchas gracias Arturo. I am also a self-taught, and have been learning every and each time I watch others playing like you do, it's a great school! keep it up!
