  • you still look like a female!&yes noone should judge, but also the transgendered person shud b honest to thier partner. i just watched a doc. about eddie aka gwen who got killed & the world went up in an uproar. hey do u date. hmmm! hook me up u have great looks...

  • A little late to the party here, but thank you so much for putting this video up. Advice like this is indispensable to somebody like me who is just starting out. :) Suit jackets really are more trial-and-error than other types of clothing--take it from someone who works in the men's section of a department store. Basically, you measure around the barrel of the chest and work it out from there (fortunately there is a wide selection of "short" or "portly" sizes). Thanks again!

  • actually the best ts are the ones with longer grafics but not lines...the ones around the chest draw attention to the upper chest only. longer is better when it comes to crazy grafic ts just not toward the hips...

  • I have big hips and find that bootcut makes your shape look more dramatic (in a bad way) a good pant is straight leg jeans that are a little baggy, and a bit sagged. :D

  • for those with wide hips, and with a little extra junk in the trunk, such as my self, who try to pass, just a tip, relaxed fit don't usually work, they feel awkward, and don't look to good, but I don't know, maybe it's cause I have short legs too? oh well, I found levi's classic fit agree with me the best, in a light wash, or black~!

  • Thanks so much for posting this, vids like this are my salvation!

  • Thanks for the video!!

  • I usually pass every well with slim straights, specially Lee/ Lee dungarees, due to my legs are every even out in a more boxy frame. But I do agree with bootcut the BEST of all jeans.

HINT: if you have wide hips. .I don't recommend the slims, slim straights, straights, originals, skinny's, .ect.

  • lol "guys have bigger feet than bio girls"

There's exceptions to every rule :P

  • @xinsanityxlives

    Hi there.

I feel lucky that my feet are NOW the average guys' size of 10 and a half...

  • i have supper dupper skinny straight legs i only wear skinny jeans and they look like normal fitting jeans

  • Does anyone have suggestions on how to find dress shirts if you're really small as a guy? I was at a department store, and I could barely find myself in a small.

  • Calvin Klein makes a good kids line (I think it's like $25 a pop for a shirt -- decent sized department stores usually have them). Salvation Army's/Goodwills are great as well.

  • Thanks, I'll try that.

  • Well I don't have to worrie bout my feet I already wear a size 11 in mens shoes

  • wow great video

although,i live in skinny jeans, but my legs are quite big and pass most of the time

  • the ending part was inspirational :)

sometimes, walking around, I just think "I AM a guy, I am just a different kind of guy"

  • good information. although it isnt quite true. im a transman and i have longish mult- colored hair, wear tight fitting pants, and tight fitting tees. i pass almost 100%. sometimes the opposite of what generally looks male can work. i just get called an emo boy a lot of a fag =/ but its better than not passing right?

  • agreed completely. as someone who has an ambiguous hormonal make up,i pass quite easily as a 'trap' mostly because i like wearing eyeshadow, shaving my hair off at the sides, keeping the middle long and generally wearing looks of genderfuck sorta clothes.but yeah.i get 'fag' alot.and beaten for it.but i don't mind.the world is such.

  • You have to work at it a LOT harder than if you weren't androgynous. Someone with a more casual style, non-"emo" non-"hipster" will have a harder time passing because many women wear the same style of clothing.

  • Multicoloured longish hair sounds epic.

  • This is very interesting, and helpful to understand fTm fashion!

    Thanks!

  • When I started my transition as a M2F I invested in a lot of beads and started taking jewelry classes so I could make my own Fabulous jewelry, but as a guy there are quite a few pieces of acceptable jewelry, puka shells and surfer jewelry is always in style.

  • wow, I'd never considered the issue of transmen and jewelry. . .hmmm (then again, as a female transexual I can't say I'm in the habit of wearing jewelry, I should really do it more--make myself some ceramic necklaces/beads/etc)

  • Cheers for sporting a First Avenue hoodie in your video!!!!!

  • im physically born a women, physcologically i i dont feel i fit as a women, but ive never bothered to transition as a pass as a male i dont need to bind even if i wear women clothing im still called sir, mate, dude so on.. as i get older i am becoming more uncomfortable with my body.. oh im still passing as a man at 22 years old...

  • Wow, you are one lucky duck. =D

  • thanx, as u may no its not jus about passing tho.. i wasnt boasting either, i personally feel if i do everything as a guy and not even think about it in public just be a proud man then i feel fine. if u get me..

  • I do get what you're saying. I'm happy for you and hop this will always work for you.

  • if you're really tall, can you cuff your pants? I'm almost 6ft

  • @youowemeandioweyou wow, that's awesome if you're a transguy. i'm only 5' 6" =(

  • @dralexi I'm 4'10 D:

  • Polos are the ONLY shirt that give me a chest

  • Please, it may seem irrelevant but what's the jewel symbol at 8:52 ? I used to have one as a ring and gave it to my boyfriend before he left and I had never seen the same after that . Is it called a name ? Do you know what country it's for ? Thanks and sorry for bothering ^^ ( and very useful vid, I wish I would have come across it months ago before I had to figure this all by myself with so much errors in the way u_u )

  • It's a Norse knotwork pattern. Often patterns like these are called "gripping beasts" but this is a human knot so I'm not sure what it would be called.

Patterns like these were/are prominent in Scandinavian countries - mostly in the viking era.

  • Thanks a lot ^^ i would have thought of some celtic mythologic figure but now that you say that, it makes sense . The drawing of the face and so on ... Thanks !

  • Thanks for the video and the website! I'm only sixteen so I can't buy a binder, but I'm so small up top that usually just using your tips, I can still pass. :)

    Again thanks so much.

  • (Stupid 500 character limit)

If you're a bigger-hipped guy, button down shirts are not going to fit right. If it fits on top, it stretches on the bottom. If it fits on the bottom, it's too bulky on top. You're gonna have to suck it up and learn to sew.

I buy my button downs a size bigger and take them in. It'll take some practice on throwaway shirts, perhaps A LOT of practice, but in time you'll figure out how to make them look clean and tailored without that hourglass "girl shirt" look.

  • Great tips! I have a few more I've figured out since I have bigger hips:

Most cargo, chino, and plaid shorts have the pockets flush with the side seams. These pockets bulge out and make the hips look even bigger. Look for shorts with pockets that slant inward so that the tops of the pockets line up with the first belt loop more than the side seam.

  • @kendracanfly i totally get what you mean. buying jeans/pants/cargo have always been a pain in the ass for me.

  • its so true about the feeling like im a man. At work when ever im just comfident and chill i pass more then if i im wondering and trying my hardest to be seen as one and worrying about it.

  • Thanks! This was really helpful and informative, especially re: bootcut jeans and "how you carry yourself".

  • I don't know if the constant stating of "you just have to find what works for you" is helpful or not; it kind of makes the video redundant. What might be more useful is to show some different body types in the video, and display "what NOT to do" as much as "what to do right". If you could get some people to help you (a variety of body types) that'd be great, but you could even show yourself illustrating your points, rather than generic pictures from Google of flat clothing not being worn. :)

  • Man I love all ur vids....I just recently brought ummmm, compression shirt from Underworks (still waiting for delivery)and a tri top binder. Im on my way..small steps.

  • yay for steps!

  • I have a full page - both sides! - of notes. It is SO hard to find tips and stuff that works for guys who're in the far larger side (I'm talking out of single letters here) and I've found a total of one shirt that KINDA works with the binder I got. This will make finding stuff that works much easier. However, what about business clothes? Am I doomed to playing girl when I go to work? D=

  • Well presented and informative. A good presentation on how to wear men's clothes.

I agree with quite a bit, except for the graphic t's, and striped shirts. I think these types of shirts really emphasize a chest, if you have one.

  • Great vid!!

  • Dude u rock!

  • hoddies lol.

    thanks man this helps alot.

    Gavin

  • Fair enough! Just pass on my words about the back to front base ball cap - bio men really don't do this! Keep on going. Peace

  • Nekoboi you're videos are great. But transmen should find their own path. Too many transmen really do look like lesbians (baggy shirts, baseball cap back to front etc)

  • I'm encouraging them to find their own path, but a lot of guys make the same mistakes. This was all posted on Andy's passing tips, I just gave pictoral representation.

  • Thanks for putting this up.

  • Thank you for being a leader and helping our young/just figuring it out guys. The only suggestion I have is get some live models as examples. It will be helpful to the folks just trying it to know what passing looks like. We all know it's not perfect every time, most of us don't have thin hips, some are not blessed with broad shoulders and so on.

  • GREAT video! Very well put together, and each reccomendation is folowed with reasons why this is the best option, as well as reasons why other options would not work as well. What better way to "sell" something? *thumbs up*

  • thanx dude

  • i think that this was a great vid! very well put together and I KNOW that you are helping people out there! also, amen to the strange comments that people send on youtube, i mean maybe they sound better in their heads, but when they hit send, it gets all jumbled and crazy, lol. keep up the good work!

  • being concerned for my safety and the safety of all other FTM guys is not "elitist". your "passing" recommendations apply more to young middle/upper-class white American men than to others, and you ought to mention that. finally, "passing" involves much more than clothing (think voice, mannerisms, haircut) and some men simply won't pass without Testosterone.

  • hope* not how... oops.

  • you make me smile. i love how you're so nice and informitive. oh and you're really cute... wow how you dont get mad i said that. :)
