  • wow! I've been looking for a new piriformis stretch. I can't wait to try this out. Thanks! I've subscribed.

  • Something isn't right here, at that degree of flexion piriformis is an internal rotator, so the toes should point outward.

Also, if the foot is dorsiflexed like this, there is more chance to stretch the sciatic nerve, which may not be indicated. Yes the posterior chain and fascial line is also stretched this way, but nonetheless, the nerve is in the way.

  • Very nice use of the strap. I've subscribed!

  • Thanks Amanda. This stretch is so effective and especially great for those with sciatica.

And by the way, Johann, sorry I forgot to respond to your comment. If your sciatic nerve is reacting to the stretch you simply need to move into it until you feel the stretch but not the sciatic pinch, and work from there. As you do it more, the piriformis will release allow more movement.

  • Good stretch! Thanks, I'll be doing this one myself and also passing it along to my clients.

  • Is this effective if the sciatica prevents full extension of the leg?

  • Thanks
