@DeadFredVideo there's no doubt that this difference within specifically semi pro and expert is smaller nowadays. d7000 is all we want. go to... freedsl r . co m remove spaces and take the chance to win completely new Nikon D7000
Ok I have a D60 and I found something about video. how does this work. is there a video mode? to shoot video. please help. and is there any one that knows about Flip cams. mine has a problem . I plug it in to charge and the red light blinks twice real fast. It will not turn on. is there some one that knows what went wrong is it a lost cause ?
@xEvvieAteYourMomx thank you i did not think it could. I have had it a short time. well happy shooting. {[O]} :) I put a still vid of the station fireon you tube .
The vibration reduction in Canon and Nikon are in the lens because it works better. Sony and other brands have messed up by putting the vibration reduction on the sensor. I have a Nikon D300S and I love the camera, but I will say that Canon are comparable and there is really no difference between the performance. I like more of the small things in the Nikons more such as the menus and the lens caps things like that led me to buying the Nikon D300s.
Did I miss it? Any mention of off-camera flash? Does it take a PC cord? What's the slowest shutter speed to do time photos at night? Will it take a shutter cable or does it come with a remote release?
if you want to get into photography you should probably take a class, most classes start teaching you with a film camera. Once you've gotten that down you'll know if you really want to get a good camera or what you want, such as when you'll be using your camera so you can use that to pick your camera. If your not that into phototgraphy this camera would be good for the "average photographer"
i wanted to take photography classes but they are pretty expensive here. so my mom said no. but im really into it. and i wuld like a really good camera tht would last me a while and i culd start a porfolio.
Hey Rox, I have the D60 and it's very nice camera to start with, you could go with the D40 since it'll be cheaper. Since everything is starting to become digital you don't necessarily need to take classes, you could just self teach yourself by using studying online forums, videos, blogs, books, etc. I have a few friends who are self taught and already have side businesses for weddings and modeling with big recommendations. Just my 2 cents.
Hello Roxystarr, If I were you I would start with a point and shoot. If you already have then you should try out the Nikon p80 NOT THE p90! (It's not as good even though it's a higher version.) Hope that helps! -RBSB

Get a used D40 of ebay and a few lenses. The nikon budget slr's are the top for learning on. You really cant go wrong with the D40 though, and add the 55-200mm vr.
nice video I have a D100 I am looking for Nikon D that will compliment my current lens and has a movie/timeLapse function I have a Canon G9 but I is proving to be unreliable I want fast focus, fast shutter reaction, movie function, large LCD thank you
@Cagey75 i also like saying nye-con better. once a stupid guy tried to correct me about this... so what? at least i can take pictures much better than that guy.
There are no pronunciation rules with proper names, C906070. If what you said was any logical, how would you pronounce the reviewer's name (Nigel)? or, how would you say, "Nike"?
because there is an E in that Noun making it sound like eye.Its a japanese word.A lot of English corrupt other country products and names.Paris is pronounced Parree.EoEA.
I think so. I had never heard it pronounced the British way until I watched these videos. I wonder if people in New Zealand and Australia pronounce it the British way as well.
@McKIllaG5 Actually the US is pretty much the only country that pronounces it as 'Nye-con'. The Japanese themselves tend to say Nee-con, so I guess we're both wrong!
nope.. its really easy.. tho your eyes will be tired if you are a first time user(cause you are using one eye only..).. you'll get a hang of it after a few hundred shots or so..
I prefer not using live view, unless I'm doing difficult shots. Live view is only better than the view finder (imo) for like, awkward positions, or you just don't feel like holding the camera up to your face.
im new and am having a bit of a problem choosing between d5000 and d60. d5000 is better i guess, but again there's quite a price difference. i would like to ask if the 3 focusing points is a very big problem? and also the live view (might have to get accustomed to it being used to digital cameras)? is d60 in any way better than the d5000 anyway? thanks.
this cammera takes great photos,.. but doesnt have live view and doesnt have vibration reduction in the body. I would rather look at Olympus E-520 a very interesting option to consider...
yes, tamron, sigma are the two main brands that are compatible with nikon. I just got a Sigma 18-250 OS HSM lens off amazon. so far, a great lens for what u get. I have used tamron and sigma as 3rd party lenses, and both will work justfine with nikon dslr cameras. nikon lenses r expensive cause u pay for the name. yes, nikon lenses are great, but is it worth the extra hundreds of dollars. for me, i got something as good, with more focal range for hundreds less in a sigma lens. good luck
I just won the D60 with an additional 55-200 VR lens on an auction. Brand new I only paid aprox 150$ for it... It retails for 950$ in Norway. - Looking forward to get it in the mail :)
It has auto focus but you need to have an AF-S lens to AF on this camera. The older Nikkor lenses are manual focus only on this camera because it does not have an AF motor on the camera body. The motor is in the lens for this camera.
iso is the sensitivity of the sensor to light. if its dark outside and you dont have a tripod then you need to put the iso higher so that the camera can have a faster shutter speed.
The higher it is, the more light you have coming through the sensor, however, you the photos will come out grainy. But with my D60, I find an ISO of 200 to be perfect in most of my outdoor and indoor shooting.

Just got one for christmas 2008, LOVE LOVE LOVE it, even the dummy settings...you don't have to know what you're doing to take a great photo right out of the box. Trust me. Now on to finish reading my manual.
just got one on dec 26 2008 so far my first digitall slr and so far best camera i heave ever used i was using zenit camera made in USSR yes USSR and i never got any digital camera but after checking this one out it was way above others like canon or sony my advise just go for it !
go with d60, as the sony ones take different cards from sd. so if you already have a digital camera, then you can use those cards. with the sony, you have to buy new ones.
I am going to buy my first dlsr camera and i was prety sure i want the nikon d60 but now on doing sum research idk wheter the get the sony or the nikon please help write me a mesege PLEASE!!
Yes, you can manually focus the lense by sliding the "A/M switch" (located on the upper left side of the lense), to "M" (manual). I have a Nikon D40x and a D300 - love them both. Very comfortable to handle and lenses are interchangeable.
The D50 is so old I doubt you could buy it now. The D40 is the most basic entry level model. For not much moe the D60 gives you 10MP (not 6MP), a next generation EXPEED processor, a lens with built in Vibration Reduction, Dust Reduction in-camera, and various other enhancements.
I have been given a D60 as an early Xmas present by my darling husband!! It has an extra 55-200 lens. As I am a 65 year old complete novice I have fund this camera marvellous and very easy to use. It does not do genuine macro but they are as near as damn it. I have also just got an iMac and an iPod so its never too late to hurl yourself into the 21st century. Get one yu won't be sorry.
Hey Janoota, I was just watching this video and saw that you have an interest in Macro photography. A inexpensive add on to your lenses is a Macro filter which will give great results pretty inexpensively. Just an idea, enjoy the great camera. I love mine. Happy shooting.

@kowz4u there is no video mode on d60, you must have it mixed up with the pal mode which selects countries.
if you are looking for a nikon with video mode, try aiming for the d5000, d90 or d3100 (:

or you can buy the D5000. it has a rotating live view display with 4 different auto focus options and isn't as pricey as the D90
inakitrescero 2 years ago
It has auto focus but you need to have an AF-S lens to AF on this camera. The older Nikkor lenses are manual focus only on this camera because it does not have an AF motor on the camera body. The motor is in the lens for this camera.

VR-lens means that there is "vibration reduction" so that your image will keep still.

gummygj 3 years ago
Nikon D60 is a DSLR Sony H50 is a compact superzoom camera,so what type of photography are you going for?
tanhockjun 3 years ago
go with d60, as the sony ones take different cards from sd. so if you already have a digital camera, then you can use those cards. with the sony, you have to buy new ones.

Hi there... I'm an amateur just enjoying photography... well i'm a graphic designer but in my free time i like to go some shooting...
so i would like to buy a nice camera... i think the D60 is a really good choice... it's cheaper than the others and has nice specifications...
can you tell me... could it be the best camera for me? i was also doubting by the nikon D60 and the Canon 450D or some other canon...
besides this... has the D60 manual focus on the lens itself, near the zoom? i dont see?

Nikon has it discounted for the holidays atm, just got myself one, and loving it!

Yes, you can manually focus the lense by sliding the "A/M switch" (located on the upper left side of the lense), to "M" (manual). I have a Nikon D40x and a D300 - love them both. Very comfortable to handle and lenses are interchangeable.

Of these, the D60 - its a no brainer.
