I find her very pretentious. Her accent is very false. She alternates between working class and upper class pronunciation. Then there is her extensive plastic surgery. I don't trust her and I think she is exaggerating her mistreatment. Even if she was maltreated (and who hasn't been) it should have stayed in the family.

Powerful story! I did a presentation around this book to my parents.... Parents have no idea of the impact that their words have on their children. I read their journals all the time! Verbal abuse is the worst kind. It is like that poisonous gas that is colorless and odorless but deadly.

Sadly I don't feel she has survived the ordeal of her childhood, and listening to this interview shows that she has not accepted herself, is not comfortable with herself and denies anyone could hurt her again. She's searching for self acceptance and she'll never find it in all the plastic surgery in the world. She'd be better investing all that money in cognitive therapy and work through all her issues. It's rather odd that she has not had any therapy for all that trauma she endured.

This woman is an inspiration, I cried all the way throughout her first book (Ugly) and I laugh all the way throughout the second book (Beyond Ugly). No one in this world deserve to go through that life style and today, she deserve everything she get. Wish I can meet the adorable miss K. one day and stupid Eastman.
I love you Constance and even though no one deserve a place in hell, i hope your Mum end her life in hell.

Briscoe is nothing but a self proclaimed victim. Do not believe a single word of her stories. Betraying her own kind and her own mother. She is ugly!! She slept her way up with white barristers, betraying female colleagues, for power and fame. She's not even respected by her peers because she is so crab in her job. Not black, nor white, a freak rather with her would be accent. Look in her eyes and you'll see that she is the devil herself. Some big black dudes should give her a good beating.

It seems to me that you do not like Briscoe at all. She has won the case so the justice was percived. If she was crap at her job she wouldn't be in the position of a part time Judge. She married to a white male but that doesnt mean anything, I still don't believe that she is a coconut. That has raised some quite suspision due to the accent she has but that could be just Law spoken. I myself speak very clear and well english but I always remember my culture background which is West Indain

Alot of people have seemed to of raised there views about Contance. I am sure that she didnt like that fact of the look of her face she had no mention of race. To be honest only she knows weather she hates being black but incase she wouldnt of gone to many talks to bkack people about her book, but yes I agrre with you too thank you for your comment.

this woman is truly an inspiriation, to have to deal with that sort of abuse ESPECIALLY from your mother, to me, is just extraordinary. she tryly makes me feel like anything can be possible, with perseverance and hard work. i applaud her and all her achievements. i can only hope to get half of that.

I picked this book up on a visit at my sisters house in 06 & could not pit it down...so many emotions i felt i wanted to destroy that bitch carmen & her poor excuse of men partners.She really is a living HERO this lady i wish i could meet her.I still think about that story & i read it 3years ago.Your amazing Constance truly amazing.

I am curently reading the book Ugly. My blood boils everytime I read what appalling things their mother, Carmen, would do to Constance and her sisters when they were young. She not only tormented and ruined their childhood but she also wanted to prove her daughter a liar now? I am very aware that violence should not be the answer to problems but in her case I would make an expection. Coldhearted bitch she is I hope she gets her reward in hell.

and It's a shame even now at her age with few years in her hands, she can't just say sorry and make a mence or even try to reunited with her daughter because whether everything she says it's true or not the truth is, she had a very unhappy CHILDHOOD and I RELATE to that.

Obviously her physical appearance was not what I expected & she doesnt look anything like an actress.

i have read ugly and beyond ugly, both fascinating a woman of strength, constance was a true grafter worked hard to get as far as she did a real inspiration i truly admire this woman. of course she's still insecure but she's at a better innerpeace than her adolescents.

Sadly I don't feel she has survived the ordeal of her childhood, and listening to this interview shows that she has not accepted herself, is not comfortable with herself and denies anyone could hurt her again. She's searching for self acceptance and she'll never find it in all the plastic surgery in the world. She'd be better investing all that money in cognitive therapy and work through all her issues. It's rather odd that she has not had any therapy for all that trauma she endured.

i totally agree with u...im going 2 get beyond ugly.......she wasnt even ugly as a child...nd eastman that basterd i despise that sack of shit nd her mother......my mom would rather kill herself than 2 to cause me mental/physical/emotional harm........im glad she didnt get a chance 2 commit suicide....but i feel terrible because i know even as i am replying 2 u i know that somewhere out there some young kid is getting abused by thier so-called LOVED ones.....

I am reading it now. And I am almost done with it, but seeing this, makes me really connect to her, and feel each emotion she felt as she grows up. God done like ugly, and the only person that was ugly truely was the mother, and eastman, and everyone else who have wrong Constance. Venage his His, He shall repay.
