How is it that I am just getting around to listening to Mance Lipscomb now? What the hell took me so long? Oh well, you get to a musician when you do. At least it is so much easier now than it used to be. Who cares if most of the popular music today is pretty boring? That was probably always true. At least today you have like a century of great stuff at your fingertips. Thanks internets!
I had an army buddy from Anderson, Texas who introduced me to Mance at Mr. Lipscomb's residence. He brought his guitar out on the front porch and treated a few of us army boys to a private concert. I was blown away ...what a great memory!
I first heard Mance Liscombe in 1973 when I bought a double album called "The Great Bluesman". I was 17. I've played guitar and sang since I was a boy, singing Black gospel in Nova Scotia, Canada, for the last nineteen years, recording and performing in Canada and the US. It's wonderful. i owe it all to the this wonderful collection, but unfortunately, I no longer have this recording. Does anyone recognize the name? I'm looking for the label in order to find it again. Thanks!!
