Very clever and well done, still I'm glad it only exists in your imagination. Dalton was the lousiest 007 until Craig came along (who is 10x lousier). Dalton's too sensitive, Sam Neil would have been excellent. The song's ok but doesn't quite have enough of the Bond spirit to qualify.
Excellent work. Dalton would've been a better fit in "For Your Eyes Only" than Moore was and would've played perfectly opposite Carole Bouquet's dark, brooding Melina. Love this Blondie song also.
Dalton for 1981!! Moore was way to old for the role after the Spy Who Love Me, he competed for role of Bond back with Sean for Dr No!! He’s older than Sean too. Dalton would have been perfect for hard nails For Your Eyes Only and true Fleming adoptions , and then bring in the ringer Brosnan how got too old quickly. That’s my two cents (which may have influenced by that fact the fist Bond-film I saw in the cinema was with Dalton on a cruise to the UK).
Blondie's song was the better song for this James Bond movie. But they did not want it to be heard in the movie. I don't think that Sheena Easton's version is more catchy. In my opinion it is a bad theme song. No, I prefer Blondie and her extraordinary song. The diamond on their last album "The Hunter".
This is the sexiest BOND cover...they shouldve replaced sheena's version with this BLONDIE version.....set in the most beautifully enchanting country in the world ....GREECE...
Excellent video! I always thought they dropped the ball when they rejected the Blondie song for the film so it's nice to see how it might have looked with this great track and Debbie Harry's fabulous vocals. Maybe if John Barry had got to put some Bond magic in it they would have seen just how well it would have worked?
This would have sounded even more impressive if it had been produced by John Barry! ..Imagine if 'For Your Eyes Only' had starred Timothy Dalton and had been directed by Steven Spielberg!!
Nice version from Blondie! The real one is great too though, hard to decide which would suit it well the most
good editing by the way, but I would have replaced Moore in a View to a Kill instead: he was getting a little too old for action scenes and all, fresh blood would have been great (even though any male looks like a wussy when playing with MayDay XD)
I always gave Blondie kudos for adding this to the Hunter LP...after being rejected for the then up coming Bond FYEO. True it may not have been Bondesque enough... but it was all Blondie in style and sound. IMO it was definitely one of the best songs on the Hunter. The producers wanted Blondie to do the Bill Conti & Micheal Leeson version, but they declined. I can't help but wonder how it would have sounded.
Timothy Dalton was ahead of his time! Compare both Timothy Dalton films with the Daniel Craig films and you'll see the same "harder edge"Bond .People wern't ready for it and had grown to expect the "softer" Sir Roger Moore style which was good and suited his style of acting.
nice idea and dalton was a good bond, though to ppl who don't like roger moore -- well, imagine if dalton had tried to replace connery...it wouldnt have worked, you need a contrast...the series would've fell flat on its feet if it weren't for moore...ppl would fast get bored if each actor just played it straight. Imagine if moore had played it serious, could dalton do tongue in cheek? doubtful.
Very nice work, but Blondie's sdong is not in the style of Bond theme songs and I just can't imagine it featured in a Bond film. Dalton would have been in his mid-30's in 1981 and I think the film could easily have been adapted for him.
Back in 1987 I was among those who expected Brosnan to be Bond simply due to the popularity of "Remington Steele" show. Just Imagine if Dalton had started the his Bond tenure in 1981 with FYEO. There wouldn't be any comparison nor pressure for Tim because Remington still did not start until 1982! Now looking back I realize Timothy Dalton was the real deal. Timothy Dalton is the perfect Bond especially in the 80's.
@MacaBago Well back in 1986 it had been announced that Brosnan would probably be the next Bond, the interest and publicity that caused revived interest in Remington Steele (which had already been cancelled) and they brought it back for another season, holding Brosnan to his contract. It was kind of dumb, the show had renewed interest because Brosnan was going to Bond, so they held him to his contract, effectively not letting him play Bond, until years later that is.
@MacaBago What a refreshing opinion. I thought that Dalton brought a well overdue dark and sincere side to Bond. Vengeful, angry, ocassionally desparing. Rich with deep emotion, as well as irony.
RM needed to retire after TSWLM, should have left at his peak instead of stretching it.
@SALTYWOOFHOUND Roger did get tired eventually. After A View To A Kill, he said he wanted to stop because he didn't like playing a role where he was in love scenes with women old enough to be his daughter. It was dd that they choose ROger Moore to replace Sean Connery, because moore is older. Wierd. "You'r getting too old so we'll replace you with someone even older."
@codename617 Maca makes the point what if Dalton became Bond with FYEO.
I agree with him.
Perhaps The Spy Who Loved Me should have been Rogers last hurrah, after what was the best Bond overture until "White Knight" in Tomorrow Never Dies, what a way to go out - with a BANG. (Make Chernobyl look like picnic...)
You think he should have carried on all those years?
@MacaBago Yes, i liked how he played Bond a bit colder than Roger in his movies. That scene where he's interrogating Pushkin in Tangier, i could not imagine Roger Moore doing that scene better than Dalton. I wish he had more chances to play 007. He passed when offered in '69 for On Her Majesty's Secret Service and he passed again in For YOur EYes Only. I would've actually liked to have seen him in FYEO, but still it was my fave Roger Moore bond movie.
This movie would have been much better without Moore, but oh well, i think if they had kept out the young girl character out and made it more serious and less comedic and stupid. I thought it was ok, but i think Dalton would have been awesome in it and the story would be a whole lot better.
I really wish Dalton had taken over at "For Your Eyes Only".

Moore did play it serious - at least in TMWTGG and FYEO, and worked very well.

@RogueRotting360 Yeah. It wasn't his fault that the scripts got more comedic and over the opt.

signed the contract in 1972.
