  • I remember Bob Dylan being very sloppy on this show. I saw him in Knoxville not long after and he was about the same way. Horrible concert. They made fun of Bob on the radio the morning after this show aired.

  • I could say this is around the time the show was starting to lose its edge. the studio startede to seem less laid back and the show was slowly starting to morphed into the LATE SHOW before he went to CBS

  • 6:45 Similar Cip as in the Late Shift

  • He should do more of these shows!!!!

  • I wonder what Warren Littlefield thinks whenever he watches this...

  • I know I have already commented but thanks Dave!! What a performance that makes you wonder where television has gone......

  • You could say this was Classic Dave's last hurrah. CBS just changed him over the years.

  • @WestVirginiaRebel was it CBS that changed him or was it age? he is in his 60's now... when he started at cbs he was in his early 40's and when he was at nbc he was in his 30's. so... can we expect an 30 year olds talk show to be the same as an 60 year olds talk show?

  • Johnny was cool, funny, and collected. He knew how to interview guests and be this funny charming man. Dave took a lot of that and he has become such an icon because of it.

  • People dont realize that if it werent for Dave there wouldnt be any Conan Obriens there wouldnt be any Craig Fergusons or Jimmy Fallons....Dave made late night what is it today

  • absolutely true. i miss the NBC Dave!

  • If it was not for Johnny Carson there would be no David Letterman. So Dave and Johnny made late night. Dave made the "anti-talk" show cool and Conan and Jimmy have joined form as they have hosted Late Night and done it so well. I watch their act and all 3 of them remind me so much of Dave.

  • I have to say I like old and new Dave, watching the reruns... I just think either way he's unique among the late night hosts because he's the one who doesn't TRY to be Mr. Nice Guy... he's ani-social, he knows it, we know it-

And we all love him for it.

And he and Craig Ferguson make the BEST team in Late Night TV... the so-spiteful-and-charged-it's-AWESOME Dave humor and then the fun, let's-just-do-whatever-and-have-fun Craig.

But I wish I could've seen Johnny in my lifetime... :(

  • CBS ruined the Late Night when they took it over. The scripted responses, the lame jokes, and no more of the classic bits (save Stupid Pet Tricks) that made Late Night so great. Old Dave had ordinary people on his show (like Johnny Carson, God rest his soul) and the new Late Show has only celebs plugging their latest movie/book. And now all Dave talks about is his wife and kid. I also miss SuperDave Osborne!

    BRING BACK OLD DAVE!

  • Man I miss the old Dave...sadly due to the NBC CBS dispute a lot of people will never see his NBC shows....I must say his first 3 years on CBS were gold but now he just doesn't try anymore....when Letterman fell of late night television fell off

  • Well said!!

  • now the subway's going up to $2.25

  • There has not been a late show that has been on the cutting edge like Late Night with David Letterman. Conan is the best today and he is half of Dave. Craig Ferguson is great but is not Dave. Jimmy Fallon blows, and Leno forgot what made him great

  • the most exciting late night talk show in history!!!!!

  • You're probably right about Sinead. She did a lot of things around that time that weren't well-received. We are talking about 17 years ago...I'm lucky if I remember what I ate for breakfast today. ;) All I remember is that she was booed while most other musicians got applause during the montage.

  • amazing show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a great show!!

  • Uhh...think those ducks flying away have anything to do with it (ie, lame duck show...)?

  • I have just about all of his NBC shows. The Anniversary shows got weaker and weaker every year. The 3rd Anniversary show was the best.

  • It had to be, since the 10th anniversary for Letterman's Late Night show would've been February 1992, and Johnny Carson retired in May 1992.

  • This is from 1992, and he started at CBS on 30 August, 1993.

With all the booing, you'd think it would be known by this time.

  • I was there for this 1 too. Waiting out on the NYC streets for about 2 hours in freezing temps to get in. Was totally worth the wait! I got a great seat at the left of the stage...nobody in front of me. Everyone scrambled to grab seats in the middle. Morons! Had empty rows, about 3, in front of me and my little brother. Only 1s there were staff of the show. Met Biff great guy! Totally remember the music montage when the audience booed Sinead OConnor (just after SNL Pope incident). Great show!

  • I was there as well I was also at the 6th. I remember freezing my ass off all afternoon waiting to get in. I think they taped this on a Sunday.

  • you were not there,,,next you'll be saying you went up on stage and met Regis

  • You're able to confirm everybody who was in the audience, so you know who was or wasn't there? And no...I didn't go up on stage and meet Regis. What do you gain by calling someone you don't know a liar? It's not like I said I walked on the moon...I just went to a show with free tickets I sent a postcard in for, and had a good time.

  • So whats Regis really like?

  • WOW! This is so cool. I was there too!

  • AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME !!! I've got the whole show on tape too, great to see it here !

  • thank you thank you thank you for uploadin this. More please.

  • Thanks for uploading these man!
