  • ..and a great shot. Reminds me of when I was young and Dad would take the entire family hunting for rabbit and pheasant. One time he shot a beauty and had it stuffed. It's a beautiful bird that we should leave alone now. The deer population is growing again. Plenty to hunt ..Thanks for sharing .. Have a merry ..

  • FREEZE!!

  • Man and dog an age-old team...

  • Rigid from the nose to the tail....

  • my dad had one of these when he was very young. From what i hear its an awsome dog

  • Cool video. I started working my brothers wirehair this past fall. I am used to labs, so it was new to me. So much fun. That was an awsome video.

  • I have a pointer.... exept he only hunts the ups guy and the mail man. he's sitting on my lap rite now......

  • JESUS what a cool dog! I want one bad! Nice point, nice video. Winnie looks like she's having fun! It's so cool to watch hunter and his dog work like a perfect machine.

  • That was a great video. Really nice. How about using a headcam? Then youd get the shot as well. If you dont know where to go for that try some of the skydiving helmet websites for instance.

  • @keinermunsterlande maybe if you knew a little about dogs and this breed you would know. Stop judging and and assuming things. I mean the dogs beautiful anyways

  • I like the nubbed tail wagging the whole time. My pointer does that but knocks over everything on the coffee table with his tail.

  • ment to deliver to hand

  • love this video reminds me of my old german pointer steffy. she'd do exact same and the point was exactly same in my view best pheasant dog ever bred top dogs and winnie is definately up there with the best of them :):)

  • that is an absolute brilliant dog should be very proud. great point great work and a very good video did u drop the camera to take that shot was really intense lookin at it i love the feeling of excitement that you get wen u see a pointer on perfect point well done great dog :)

  • @Morgasm172 Thanks very much, I wasnt sure if people were viewing our videos anylonger. I have some really good videos to add from this year but am waiting until i can record some acoustic guitar to add to the background. I get so darn excited when winnie is tracking, it never gets old. It feels the same way every time...like her first point. Thanks again for commenting

  • @winniegundog yeah man you have one heck of a god. I didnt know why she was standing so still but when you zoomed onto the bird i was like holy s***t. Yeah man you should be proud i know i wud. Gud catch aswell, nice feasent. Im thinking of getting a german shorthaired pointer but i dont think my hound will be happy. Good hunting man!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's a awsome dog! I'm thinking of getting a German Shorthair/Coonhound mix. will that make a good bird dog?

  • @Sn0wman1021 I think the you'll be all set with the mix. If you look at winnie closely she has the same markings as a coonhound. yellow legs yellow mouth....although they have turned white due to her age. I used to call her goldenpaws.

  • @KeepStrumming Thanks for commenting!! When the tail stops and points straight up in the air....Shes on Point!!

  • Awesome video! I loved how you got footage of the bird just sitting there before it flushed. I don't think I've ever seen that before!

  • @ibanez2010 Thanks for commenting. I had been trying to get video and pics of her for years prior to this. My hands were shaking I was so darn excited. I left the camera on top of the truck prior to leaving the field. totally forgot to grab it. I found it when i got home and out of the truck! unharmed, roof rack kept it from sliding off.

  • Thats a beautiful point by your dog. Your dog hasnt been trained on flushing the birds? she did great on holding and not rushing the birds. My brittany does that and its a hard habit to break.

  • @texanol75 Its hard to explain why I never properly trained her. Thanks alot for commenting. rock steady point but she creeps sometimes for no reason. she can be a flushing dog when the birds are running, and a pointing dog when the birds hold. but either way not steady on wing or flush. I hope people who enjoy the videos will forgived us.

  • @winniegundog my brittany does that sometimes and i think it might just be excitement, and also in my case i am not able to take my dog out but once or twice a season, and so i think it may be that the dog is a little rusty. But thats just my case. But you have a very good looking dog. Keep it up!

  • @winniegundog you have an awesome gsp........i love bird hunting and im looking to get my first gundog.....im a big fan off brittnanys and german shorthairs, is there a certain breed that i get for never having a ny gundog before?

  • @kowskiman Im a fan of shorthairs because they hold a point and give me time to catch up to them. On days when hunting is slow and you may only put up one bird, your chances are better if the dog ur hunting with holds a point. Im not sure how a flushing dog would be better in this case.I may be totally wrong on this. Thanks again for the positive comment!!

  • Awesome dog! How does the dog know when to break point and flush the bird? Do you have a command for this?

  • @scoremat Im sorry to say that Winnie was never trained in the traditional way. She was never whoa broke as a pup. she is not steady on the flush or shot. She will hold on a bird as long as she thinks it is still there, often times the bird is actually scurrying off as I am admiring her point. Winnie will pursue a running bird and will hold the point if the bird stops. some say pheasants can ruin a pup in training. anyways..no command to flush. I will kick up a bird and she chases it.

  • awesome dog, well done! do you have a command to flush the bird? how does the dog know when to break point and flush the bird?

  • Man you cant go wrong with a pointer!! i got one and she is amazing!! i could sit and have a cup of tea and a sandwich while she points!! really good video!! lovely dog!!

  • @11paulmm11 I was just saying the same thing today....having a pointer can be very relaxing. let the dog do the work, trust your dogs nose...keep her close and enjoy. I havn't said "find the bird!!" in 7 years. No commands needed. appreciate every second, every flush. bring a camera and share it. Thanks for commenting

  • Great video, great dog and a nice shot too.

  • @CaNn0nMaN1

thanks alot for commenting. hope to put more in. watch the other videos if you get a chance

  • Well done, a superb dog!

  • @FreebieJeebiesFtw Im scared to

  • big fan of winnie watched a lot of the videos she is a great gsp. i am taking mine out for the first time this year he is 10 months i am pretty sure he is going to do great.. i hope one day he will be like winnie.. great job

  • @realtree6990 Winnie started at 10 months. i witnessed her birth feb 2,2002. I'm sure you are going to have a wonderful time with your pup. Patience and lots of love. Shock collar dosent hurt either. always amazed how these dogs need to know who is boss. I cant lay on the floor without her trying to dominate me. bring ur camera, dont be afraid to miss a bird 4 a great pic of ur dog. id hunt without a gun and just video if I could. send us some pics. thanks 4 watching, really appreciate it

  • @winniegundog ya i figured i needed a shock collar about a week after i got him and u r rite it works great and he listens to me now very well and i dont use the collar much at all.. he really responds great to the whistle. i will definetly put up pics. thanks for the advise. seasons rite around the corner hope to see new videos of winnie.. take care and good luck

  • Who could dislike this?

  • @kibsyyy who could dislike this comment?

  • Nice shot!!! A beautiful dog too.

  • @bte320 Thank you very much!! Really appreciate it you commenting.

  • @bte320 Thanks for watching. hopefully this beautiful dog will hunt another year. Precious time.

  • Thats awesome!

  • @anthonyparisotto I think its awesome that people comment on this video!

  • wow that was a fast reacting

  • @M3dic1 Thank you very much for commenting.

  • nice dog

  • @kid304 Thanks kid

  • great video enjoyed it .

  • @gabriellebc1 Im glad you like the video. If you have time check out some others. Thanks again!

  • Nice birdy dog, I have a 10 week and a 8 week old gsp. one male and one female. I cant wait to get my dogs on. great dog and nice fast shot.

  • @pdx955 Have fun with the pups. They are a challenge for sure. It's nice to see a sleepy puppy after youve worn them out. So darn naughty though!

  • As a former German Shorthair owner, I must say they are a Great Dog with a terrific amount of stamina. They will work from sunup to sundown. But the fact remains, he who spends the most time with his dog will have the best dog.

  • @Glennandy Truer words have never been spoken

  • Haha I'd love to teach my dog to do that. She's a pure black lab/pure GSP mix and definitely does have the pointing ability in her. She LOVES birds and will slowly approach them and when they run, so does she haha. Still a little puppy though. :) This was really cute and also informative for me cause I've never seen how they really seek out foul. Thanks.

  • Thanks for commenting. Sounds like your little puppy likes to follow her nose. I love watching puppys stalk their prey. enjoy.

  • Dzoni, he has a bell so when it stops ringing, he's pointing. Not many pointers in the UK wear bells but I believe they do on mainland Europe

  • why does he have a bell??

    btw, great dog! great job!

  • He did that like he's seen a bird or two.....lol Nice job.

  • Thank you for commenting. Winnie has seen a few birds. I only hope that she sees a few more. I'll be sure to have my video camera.

  • Awsome video man ,, Dogs a champ we love em

  • Thanks alot!!

  • im so lucky to be able to hunt behind a couple of these dogs, but the vid was real fun to watch, Its real cool to see the bird all locked up. good job

  • Thanks alot!! I truly appreciate every minute I get to hang with my little four legged buddy.

  • Really enjoyed your video-Winnie is a great dog! Check out my Oscar English Pointer video that I've posted-I think you may enjoy it as well!

  • Thanks for commenting. 15 years old!! I will want to find your breeder. Our bloodline dosent seem to be living very long. Some neurological disorders have caused to put them down.

  • @winniegundog @winniegundog We got him from Sundance Kennels in Columbia MO. Now, my pointer does have some heart issues, (we cannot hunt him anymore because of his heart murmur) but other than that, very active, happy and healthy for a 15 year old dog. Back in his day, he did a great job during field trials.

  • wow great video and great dog. Im looking into adopting a GSP now that i moved into a home with aot of property. I have always wanted one just havent had the space. How are they at listening when there off the leash. Do they run off or stay with you nicely. And does that take alot of training for your dog to do what you showed in the video

  • Winnie had never been a very good listner as a puppy, but I have subscribed to tuckerthegsp this gentleman has a german shorthaired pointer that listenes extremely well. I used a shock collar, it worked so well that i put it away after three weeks. Some adoption agencies want you to have a fence on your property to protect the dog. I agree, but love to see these dogs run free burning energy. enjoy

  • @TheeeDoctorrr GSP? what is that?

  • @M3dic1 german shorthaired pointer

  • Pretty incredible. Wish mine was that good.

  • Thanks for commenting. Sometimes a good day of wearing out your dog is god enough. A shock collar will do wonders. Your dog wants you to be happy. Good luck!!

  • DAm Winnie rullllllls

  • Thanks alot!!!! I am praying for one more year. Don't want a puppy so soon!

  • Thanks alot for commenting. Been real busy this year fixing heating systems. Havnt had a chance to reply.

  • As I sat in front of the computer screen watching this video, my shorthair Deuce came over as he recognized the sound of the bell. He sat next to me and watched the video with great interest. He cocked his head to the side as he always does when he is very interested in things.

He and I went Pheasant hunting many times before we moved to Arizona and he hunted much like your dog. The breed is amazing!

  • Thats really cool!! Give Deuce a pat on the head for me.

    Thanks for commenting. Very Nice.

  • nice

  • thank you!

  • Pointers are vastly superior to flushers... Flushers are unpredictable, and can flush birds too far ahead, or when you're not ready for it, whereas, a pointer will hold the bird until you are good and ready for it to flush.

  • Not if ur dog is properly trained, pointers are ok in open ground as this, however for hunting woodcock in scrub and thick cover u will not beat a good springer or cocker, and come on i mean a pointer is just telling u where the bird is with the flusher its much more unexpected!!!

  • @phoenix1916 springer or my labs have always been good pheasent dogs great nose on both of em but i duck hunt so i would go with a lab over any other dog

  • I use my springer for pheasants, grouse, woodcock, and duck, it is great on water and an all round dog its their versatility that makes them so good

  • @phoenix1916 nah springer aint wourth a shit in the cold they aint a good duck dog

  • -12 over here and mine works fine, get a proper one!

  • @phoenix1916 they dont have the right kind of coat for the cold.. they are a phesent dog. not a duck. labs are the best duck dogs out there. i bet you dont get the cold weather like we get so yea

  • they are an all round dog i tell u i hunt all game with them????????

  • @phoenix1916 where do u hunt? because around here it gets really cold and they are not a good duck dog my uncle has had 4 of em and he even told me they aint good duck dogs

  • @phoenix1916 Very true! I have hunted with springers and pointers at the same time. They work well in combination. Often the pointer will point in the thick brush and then you get ready for the bird as the springer goes in there and flushes it. Overall I prefer the pointer, but a good flushing dog has a place in the thick brush. I think it's more of a hunters preference, as I enjoy watching both dogs work.

  • @cashstore1 yes agree totally

  • @SeductiveTurtle wow, i guess you really are unfamiliar with many GOOD hunting dogs. I run GSP's and labs, and have had Wiems. I feel bad for you if you really believe what your saying. A dog is as good as it's trainers.

  • What a beautiful dog. You can tell she loves you too. Very good work.

  • Thanks alot!! Hope to get another year out of her. Take better care of her than my two kids.

  • you should really think about a tri-tronics beeper collar that only makes noise when the dog is pointing(still). That bell worked on the pen raised rooster you shot on video but sound would have every late season wild rooster out of the end of the field before you know it.

  • I can use all the help i can get. Mabey I will get one for my birthday.

    Thanks

  • Looks like she really enjoys going out for a hunt

  • Thanks for commenting. She is a happy girl when outdoors for sure

  • How do you flush it out? Do you just walk towards it? I ask because I've only used retrievers who do the flushing for me. ^_^

  • @MAJORdorMo

Yep, I don't have a dog *yet* but you just walk through fields and when you get close to one it will fly up cawking like crazy

  • I walk up behind the dog and shes supposed to hold and let me flush the bird. This is something that we never really trained for. That is why she would not be a good field trial dog. My Fault

  • good video very steady dog and good shooting too!

  • Thanks for commenting. It was really hard to video knowing that you might miss the bird just to get a good shot.

  • im in love with your dog! i have a german wire hair who points the exact same but has fallen ill :( as soon as she passes im going to get one like winnie! Great dog love how she prances so proud with the bird!

  • Thank you very much for commenting, I am very sorry about your dog. I wish you all the best.

  • What kind of gun were you using?

  • I was using a 12 gauge Browning White Lightning

  • Me and my Dad went down the woods with our German shorthaired pointer puppy, she ran into some bushes and we were waiting a fair 10 minutes next sec we saw about 5 or 6 pheaents flying out, and another 5 more from the other bushes flew out :D i love these dogs, how old is yours ?

  • Thats awesome! Winnie is 7 1/2 years old. She still acts like a puppy sometimes. sounds like ur dog has a good nose.

  • THanks ! , shes 17 weeks old now , she was chasing a squirell other day ,she llooked well happy chasing it , it then ran up a tree and she looked really confused :)

  • The terrain was rolling and the air crisp, we started out cold but a thin sweat developed over our bodies as our dogs delivered the beautiful pheasants and partridges to points of our shotguns. One by one we took them, the bond between man, dog and ...nature was complete as the afternoon ended. We honor them tonight at a feast on the table, and cannot wait until we are in the field again.

  • Beautiful!!

  • awesome

  • Thanks alot, glad you enjoyed the video

  • hey i need answers ok i want a GSP rlly bad but i dont hunt but i will excersice it ALOT and i have a park by my house so i can run with him/her there so can i still get one plz answer back thx!

  • Yep sure, they don't calm down till around 7 years old. Mabey a little doggy daycare mixed in. You have my blessing have fun

  • I'm not so sure she's a pure breed/

  • The uglier the better. She looks more like a blue tick coon hound.

  • ive seen almost every video and i have to say WOW..Winnie is the best bird dog i have every seen..would love to hunt with Winnie..lol..im going to take 3 days off from bow hunting and try my luck in claremont for some Pheasant..

  • Good luck hunting. Thanks for watching the videos. Really excited to hear someone has tried to watch all of them.

  • Man's best friend, what loyalty the dog took a little liberty and didn't give the bird right up, then relented to his master.............our roots !

  • Thanks alot for commenting. Man and Beast working together!

  • that was great used to be into it big about 10 yrs until dog got hot by a car but got a new puppy and going back to sd this year for the first time great video im still excited just watching it

  • Thanks alot for commenting. I hope you have a wonderful time with your puppy. I would love to go to SD. What a trip that would be. Id have to bring alot of advil for sure.

  • Great working as well as looking dog you have!!!!

  • Thanks alot. Opening day is tomorrow. If ur hinting good luck!

  • Thanks alot. Please keep an eye out for more videos.

  • great video, thanks for sharing. its amazing how smart these dogs are. i own a weimaraner, and soon to adopt a GSP; watching this makes me very eager to get out in the fields with them...

  • Thanks alot for commenting. Good luck with your new GSP. Ive always wanted a weimaraner beautiful dog.

    Have fun, be safe.

  • have a great time!!

  • Going bird hunting tomorrow

  • Food! Daw...

Every single animal in this world is innocent..

    Yum Yum...

  • People eat them.

  • Great work tracking a running bird, outstanding point and nice retrieve. You've done a great job training Winnie. Where was this video taken?

  • Thanks alot for commenting. I took this video in New Hampshire up in Bristol along the river. Very small area to hunt but nice fields.

    Thanks again!

  • how old do you need to be to go hunting, i know fishing is whatever but im not sure about hunting.

  • I believe that you need to be accompanied by an adult before the age of 16. Then after that you need to go through the hunters education course.

  • Very impressive point!!! I've hunted over english setters my entire hunting career and got my first GSP last year. We tried hunting once but alas, no birds! I got her from a rescue group at 9 mos so hunting may not be an option.

I was wondering (in my continued pursuit of hunting her) how you introduced the cow bell? I tried one on my dog and she froze up...wouldn't move! I need it to locate her in the field and know when she's on point.

  • Thank you very much for commenting. The cow bell is something new to me, I will ask my father in law who has hunted under dogs for over 50 years. He will have some wise ass comment. My first thought is that the dog may be a little timid. You definately need some sort of audible device to locate her. I did use a small tiny bell at first. I was picked on severely. I was given a larger bell out of pity. I will get back to you on this.

  • beautiful. beautiful dog! had one just like it that got stolen day before the hunt....I missed him....

  • OMGoodness! That's something you don't hear of very often.

'Thank you very much for commenting.

  • It is hard to lose something that does nothing but give you pleasure in so many ways. GSP's are wonderful!

  • i sadly lost my two german shorthairs both within six weeks of each other. our one diedd of a stroke. he always layed in bed with me he was my best friend. and shortly after we lost our other dog. the night before we took him to the vet to be put down. god called him home i guess there was someone up there who needed a friend to. i miss them very much. and whoever wants a dog get a shorthair. they are awesome and great with kids if you treat them right.

  • I am very sorry for your loss. Yes I agree shorthairs are awesome. They sure appreciate the active lifestyle. Often they will smile at you, especially first thing in the morning , to greet you. Your dogs were lucky to have you for owners. Winnie just lost her mother two weeks ago! We are still in mourning. We will spread her ashes in the pheasant fields.

  • makes me hungry.....I am gonna make pheasant in creamy mead sauce dish.

  • Excellent !!!! how much are shorthairs?..my boss has a puppy short hair, but he paid $950. Something i dont have haha

  • There are plenty of GSP's looking for good quality homes. Just look up GSP Rescue. Please make some shorthair happy they deserve it!!!!!

  • thanks for the tip...... she looks proud of herself hahaha.... give her a pat on the back for me

  • i bought a GSP last year she is by far the best dog i have ever had she is great with my son a good gaurd dog and the best hunting partner ever shes spots all game big and small this is a great breed of dog for the outdoorsman forsure

  • i grew up with german shorthairs and pheasant hunting and i miss both

  • Can't have one without the other!!

  • Great point. Though i must say the dog did not work side to side very well. My pointer goes side to side great but he is young an is not so gentle with the birds when shot. Pretty dog...thanks for posting!
