Having the sound of a live audience helps this feeling.

Whether you think it's stupid or not, the fact is that it works, and that's why they use it. They do their research, and wouldn't use audience laughter if it didn't help the popularity of their show.

alright, so maybe my problem is with taped laughter in general.

at best, it fills dead space so the viewing audience can laugh. at worst, it can be offputting, annoying and presumptuous -and in general it removes the audience from the act of watching the show by reminding them that they are watching a show.

i just rewatched the clip and the laughter is not half as annoying as i remember, so i must have been in a real shit mood then, but i still think any audience laughter is unnecessary.

i agree, only seriously bad comedy needs laughter added.Its also very condescending to the audience as its a cue for when you should laugh its stupid pointless and distracts from me actually finding this funny. His standup is hilarious ...why isnt this? because his timing has been messed around with to accommodate for the canned laughter ....anyone that says this is a live track...well yes but its canned its editied in and out not by the people but by a sound editor its still fcanned laughter.
