FREEEZ was indeed a band, but on this song, they played no instruments. This is all John Robie & Arthur Baker. Written & recorded in New York, not the U.K.
Great song, Freeez were a good band but really, pulling wheelies in the video - that was never cool, even in 1983! Anyway, I have this on 12" vinyl so I don't have to watch!
Was at a party when this was in the charts and it was playing. Then it all kicked off and yours truly got a good kicking and two busted ribs...................funny how certain tunes stick in your head.!! Lol
I am SHOCKED! My jaw hit the floor and my eyes popped out of my head. All these years i've listened and danced to this song, I ALWAYS thought a woman was singing it!!!!! At 1:39 my son asked what was that.......I said "A cassette tape." Damn I feel old. AND I always thought the lyrics were "A-E-I-O-U and sometimes Y". A 29 year old song that I thought i knew and its my first time ever seeing the video...wow....i'm still in a state of shock!
the eighties were amazing and i remember this very well as it came out the year i left school 83. don't know what that fucking break dancing was all about though lol.
I remember I was in Jr. High when they played this on our local black radio station in Georgia all the time. I never would have guessed they were white or British. It seemed music changed so much and there were so many different sounds in the 80's and early 90's. Music, clothing, everything seemed so new and fresh. Hasn't felt that way in other decades. Not as much originality.
Man, the parties on campus back at school and remember the WBMX Hot Mix Five Friday and Saturday night mixes on the radio with this. So many good memories.
reminds me of 1983 when my cousin came to stay and was disgusted at how violent devonport was. i thought it was normal for sailors to fight civvys as they walked through the streets of devonport and union street.i then realised i lived in a dump. lol.
I must've been around 8 or 9 years old when this song came on the radio, and i fell in love. I'm in my 30's now and is the first time i am watching this video. Awesome!!!!
This actually was the first record I heard on Counterpoint FM, a very big and professional pirate radio station in Amsterdam during the 80ties. This record paved the way for my love for dancemusic. Classic!
WTF!!! Until I just saw this I always thought it was a chick thats sang this lol whao!! oh well I still liked the song from 83 not one of my fav's but still Koo!! good times.
@scotlanddays no mames desde hace 30 anos no escuchava esta rola cuando vivia en acayucan y en coatzacoalcos veracruz mexico, fucking awesome tune thanks
First tape I bought where it was with 18 other numbers. Because I really fell in love in synths I bought that Roland SH-101. Many groups used that thing. Now having also the SH-201. Other instruments I use are Yamaha Tyros II, Boss (Roland) VE-20 Vocoder. (Search for that one here.... it's amazing.
Clip from Freeez is like his hands are stuck on an octave. He isn't moving his hand..but Thumbs Up ^_^...... it was the song I met my wife !!!!
@maxtek7 You know there were times when I`d sing along to lyrics and not even think about what they meant haha!! (eg My Sharona by The Knack) I guess what I was thinking was that in this song the singer owed an apology to someone after accusing them of being incorrect...at least i think that`s what i thought!! -Daz in Oz.
@frankjum Thank You! Another lyric I got wrong was Tears for Fears "Mad World"...when I was at school I was very marvellous, no one knew me! I suddenly realised it was 'i was very nervous' haha
as a young kid growing up in da bronx I remember this song being dance too by kids and old people alike.... reminiscing and nostalgia....nothing like the good old days....mind you I'm only 38....
@elsol98 I agree. Everyone loved this song. Do you know how long it took me to find this song? Well, foe-eva...like we say in tha Boogie Down Bronx. I remember my brother walking around with his huge boom box that my mother had bought for him, and he used to take it everywhere, and he also played Planet Rock, lol love memory lane!
