great video! Quick question: where is the "mixer" that you can access by hitting F5 (you access that at :59 mark)? In reason is that still a separate window or is it just the mixer in the rack? Second question, what is the thing above the redrum labeled "drums"? Was the a part of the redrum in earlier versions of reason or is that another device? Last and most important question: what is the thing labeled "master section"? It's important in the videos and I can't find it anywhere!!! Thx !
@MusicforLions I totally understand your confusion! That's all stuff that's new in Reason 6 (and was in Record 1.5 but not Reason 5). Reason 5 doesn't have the big mixer so hitting F5 won't bring it up. Reason 6 has it, though. The thing above the redrum is what's called a "mix channel" in Reason 6. That's what shows up on the big mixer. Every device that wires to the big mixer has a corresponding mix channel above it like that. The master section is also new to Reason 6. Hope that helps!
@audiobahn404@kindofallpedia Just to be clear and correct, Reason 5 and below have mixers but they are smaller mixers than the big pro mixer in Reason 6.
Okay...call me an idiot...joke all u want...but I can't get my microphone to work with record. It's a USB condensor and everytime I plug it in, I can hear what's already in the project but record nothing from the mic. Somebody PLEASE help it's really pissin me off.
@tube4andy I asked Phead and they said it was just USB mics in general that wouldn't work, unless combining the drivers. So I used asio4all and of course when the mic works, I can't play back any sound all. It ends up being one or the other working at a time. So I'm just going to get a more proffessional microphone for vocals that'll work with it no strings attached. Any suggestions? & thanks btw
@Brewbaby14 - ah drivers... that's why I use macs these days. Well, if you want to buy a professional mic for vocals, that doesn't break the bank, I would say you have 2 choices... Shure dynamic which doesn't need phantom power and can be used for recording other things like drums, and even for live vocals. I think I read somewhere that Bono from U2 uses this type of mic for recording. Others would say you would be better with a large diaphragm condenser... SE Electronics & Rhode
@Brewbaby14 (cont.) offer great entry level large diaphragm condensers, but for these you need phantom power + pop filter + reflection filter + mic stand. Condenser mics can't be used in live environments and some would say you can achieve far more accurate sounding results with condenser mics... Sorry if you knew all this already, but there's my 2 cents, just in case :)
@tube4andy THanks I appreciate it alot, but instead I opted to just get protools. Seems like a better investment when I already have a mic. Granted it'll work...I thank you tho man hah most ppl just ignore the comment
i've got a question that has been bugging me for a while. WHY HAS PROPELLERHEAD NOT ALLOWED REASON TO USE VST's? There are some really awesome VST's out there and if propellerhead could integrate them with reason it would open up a whole lot of doors for reason users..
Ever noticed how it never crashes and even the crappiest PC has enough power to build up a decent track? THAT's why! A closed environment provides these possibilities.
What bugs me out, is that they finally introduced a way to record directly into reason, but you still have to go to another program (Recycle) to chop a sample up. Doesn't make much sense. Recycle should be integrated in Reason directly as well. Still a Pain
@MrROTD-I think the attraction of virtual patching comes from gear lust. If you are not into hardware than remember one thing... you can't run software without hardware. For my first Record session I sampled a Micron into a MPC 60 and then tracked the beat I was working on into Record. I could have saved a lot of time by working only within software, but the process I used gave me results I never intended but was very happy with plus I had a great time!
In about 6 months I'm going to make an upgrade. Hesitating between an overpowered Mac and add a drumpad for the fun, or get a light imac or MBP 12" and add an MPC... tough choice :o)
Thanks James...that's why Reason and now Record too, is just awesome...it's so intuitive and theres no limit! I've tried so much DAW's but most of the time they really suck IN CREATING MUSIC!!
Im REason user (~lover) since 1.0 demo :D ... still busy with it... but missed the 'record' upcoming little bit. propellerhead's software-concepts are always unique and outstanding stuff
just love this software to bits ! reason is awesome.. so flexible n creative, with record as well its like entering a parallel universe. sooo many possibilities n the sound is much much better
Propellerhead software sounds as good as you make it sound. Record is a tremendous improvement! If it doesn't sound great when you use it, maybe it's because you need to develop more skill . . . .
that's so true I think people who rant about reason and it not having vst's are people who are being lazy and not willing to spend a bit of extra time to develop their own unique sound. It' s the bad workman that blames his tools
This is ridiculously complicated, I can do this with a few clicks and in the same screen. Why do software makers insist on having a fake patching routing screen? they are representations of obsolete gear we dont need anymore.
I dont have record, if you want this on reason, use a matrix, then use tab and only have one wire from gate-> amp level of a synth, and you'll get the same effect.

When I press F5 to access the mixer, nothing happens. Does that work in Windows Reason as well?

@kindofallpedia -You have to go into the keyboard settings and disable the original F keys settings, otherwise they don't work. Good luck

The F5 button does nothing in Reason and i dont have Record. Can you still do this without Record?

@bobbylosh I very much agree that it's a poor worker that blames his tools instead of his or her own ambition.
If you want or need vst's, simply Rewire into ProTools, Motu Digital Performer, or Cubase (or whatever DAW you prefer).
Everyone should find whatever works best for themselves. It's not magic; it takes a little work, folks.
