  • Thats a great job it used to be done on our farm!

  • It works very well surprisingly! It tames even the worst cattle we have. It saves a lot of dangerous moments that may be had when training cattle.

  • does that work well???

  • @punkinhed81

Old wive's tale. All it does is choke the donkey since they attached the rope to it's neck. Plus the point of working with the animal your self it to create a trusting bond. So, even if this worked the calf will be bonded tot he donkey, not a human being.

  • @Lagolop This is how we broke all the calves/cows I showed in 4-h as a kid. Its not safe for someone of 90 pounds to try to drag one of these animals around before its been with a donkey for a few days. It really does work, I've seen it done too. And both animals still seemed to like people after, too...

I'm not a fan of the term "broke". Ur entitled to your opinion of course and so am I. If you begin to handle a calves or any other critters earlier on (before it can yank you all over the place), you can achieve the same affect without tying 2 animals together.

The entire agro business (and 4H for that matter) is not one I am a fan of to say the least. And before u call me a "city slicker" or some other term, please don't bother because I know a bit about what I speak.

    Peace.

  • @Lagolop It was just a question of whether the method (cow + donkey) worked to achieve the purpose of getting a cow to know what to do when in a halter, which it does. What the best method is to achieve the same goal - I can't to speak to, I'm not qualified for that. We've had bottle fed calves as well - they led without that training, but they were also orphans. I do know that many farmers truly love their animals, and many are educated also. Life isn't always so black and white.

I agree on all 3 of your points. It's true. Sadly many farmers and ranchers (ranching in my area) are ignorant assholes, not especially well "ejucated" and could care less about their stock. They are in love with the bottom line only. And yes, there are shades of gray.
