The Republican party, in the 1800s, was the liberal party. It was the party for change. Then in the 1960s, the liberal party (Republican) became the conservative party (Democratic) and vice versa.

Change does not necessarily equate to liberal... there are a number of stances and policies that they are unwilling to change at all (i.e. resistance to entitlement reform, charter schools, etc.). I mean, what liberal values were popular among the majority of the Republican party have in the 1800s? The parties never "switched."

If you want to cite the Southern Strategy, get it right. Nixon focused on Dems who had conservative and/or religious values, as well as others who were not in line with the party. Additionally, a large number of GOP members actually moved to the South (i.e. GHWB, Gingrich to name a couple).

Due to the fact that so many of them were being displaced a lot of older workers (baby boomers) decided to retire, so the numbers are more valid than critics would want to admit. 1) The Real Unemployment Rate
2) Gas Prices
3) How Obamacare pans out in the Courts
4) The real growth rate.
This all ties into the opinion of whether country is going the right way. A polling question that predicts elections better than nigh any other.
Such are the challenges of Obama's Campaign. I wouldn't know how to sell it frankly.

Securing key battlegrounds such as Ohio, Virginia, or Florida will particularly be daunting. Not to mention ginning up base turnout or the persuasion of independents to return to him.
Things could be a better starting point for an incumbent's campaign staff. If Obama wins, the methods of precisely how will enter political playbook history.

At this point, Carter was strong.
At this point, Bill Clinton was inevitably screwed.
Then again, at this point Reagen was no longer vulnerable.
So anyway, we'll see. The heat is off Obama for now as people focus on the primaries, but this will be an historic election.
Only one thing seems more or less certain:
Democrats are likely to lose the senate. The only question is by how much?

@vzkelly I said HAS been moderate on taxes, remember he has not raised taxes while in office and voted to keep the Bush Tax Cuts in place. Going forward he has no intention of being so, but according to what has happened my statement is accurate; actually, because he is still operating under the BTC he has actually been conservative when it comes to taxes. Therefore, to answer your initial question I am not retarded, just aware of the difference between actions and intentions.
