  • Hello, I'm a girl with turner's syndrome and like many of you I also went through a lot of surgeries from both ears, I would like to contact someone that has been through this experience, thank you

  • I had surgery for this when I was in the army and lost 1 1/2 ear bones but they used a piece of my ear cartilage to fix it and I was lucky that my ear canal was large enough for the tools to fit through. But my ear kinda feels stuffy again so maybe I should get the va doctors (it is service related after all) to recheck it. This has made me wanting to make sure it's nothing.

  • i was 10 wen i had this done in 18 now.thay took the bones out and put in a drain.op did stop nerve damage.but that was the only good thing.the infection has not gone away.my hearing was halfed in the ear after op.and its getting worse(thats bad because i work in music)now thay want to put replace the bones with stuff to bring back the hearing.but theres a chance the nerves in my face may get messed up.so i risk my lifely hood or my looks. can some 1 whos had this please talk to me.thank you xx

  • @sonnyboy1069 im 13 and i had this op about a month ago. they took out the cyst and put a piece of plastic in my ear to protect the bones and nerves. in february, im gonna get another op to remove the plastic and put stuff in to rebuild my ear bones, and they're also gonna check if there is anything that was left behind and re-growing. your infection may get even worse, and since you work with music, i'd go for it. when you did your post-op check up, did the doctor prescribe ear drops?

  • @MrBillDaBear yes i was prescribed ear drops.so your gonna have the bones sorted soon good for you. i cant explain how inportent it is for you to use the ear drops.

and keep your ear dry when your in water but i bet you already know that.

    good luck in february :)

  • Radical Mastoidectomy in 1987, (with Cholesteatoma & abcess on my Sternocleidomastoid muscle), 2 more ops over 10 years. Don't swim (to keep my ear dry). Just had my second microsuction in 7 weeks, (usually seen every 3 months), using ofloxacin drops, but seems to be getting worse. 33 years of this, sick of it. Profoundly deaf in my mastoid ear (that I don't mind), it's flare ups like this that get me down :( This everclear stuff sounds GREAT!?!? I guess that is from the USA? Never heard of it!

  • @7ChocolateMusic4 Hey man I had the same thing done in xmas 2010. Am going for a check in oct. I'm so sorry to hear about your story. Cholesteatoma is a bitch maybe one day we can all live in a cholesteatoma free world!!.Keep your chin up though. Keep fighting that son of a ^&*!

  • My doctor had me use the everclear in 92 and it's worked everytime the infection starts.

  • Ive had this in both ears as a kid. It took all of my hearing in the left ear and about 60% of the right ear. I have had a mastoidectomy in both ears. I wear a hearing aid in the right ear. The problem is that the hearing aid blocks the ear canal which provides the perfect condition for this stuff to thrive in due to moisture. I get it about once or twice a year now. I use everclear (alcohol) , a cpl drops in the ear & this normally kills it. It dries it out.

  • fui operada de mastoide quede muy bien y siento que oigo mejor.sra. Guevara especialidades 25.

  • I had really bad cholesteatoma too. it was a quarter of a centimeter away from my brain, at least thats what the exrays showed. or catscan, whatever you call it

  • I had a cholesteatoma in my right ear a couple of years back and lost 80% of my hearing and all taste on the right side of my tongue.....and now, lucky me, I have to have another operation but in the left year for the same thing. At the moment my ear is constantly leaking fluid that smells like what i can only describe as "stale dog shit". Really hoping that this operation is successful and that I still get to enjoy food later.

  • @Lelu2506 Try not to worry. My op left me with a clean, dry ear (healthy otherwise) so I'm glad it got done! All the best dude

  • that looks......very, very, very, very, very painful

  • hey guys i am from Britain and i got my operation in dubai and it was a different kind of surgery and that was 2 weeks ago and i am going out running every day i can go on planes now, swim, i will be able to do deep sea diving and i will never need the operation again ps i had a huge cholesteatoma and the doctor went right up to my brain and i am fine so guys if you want anymore information just send me a message

  • @cal1999h I'm from london and if you have it on the nhs it takes around a year to have an op after the first outpatient appointment!! Beat that lol

  • yeah

  • My god damned cholesteatoma is back

  • @Akeuw Shit. Sorry to hear that man, hopr you get it out soon too

  • I'm fixing to have this done...Whoever posted this how was the pain afterwards?

  • @amandaolshove i didnt post this but i did get this removed. it wasnt that bad considering the pain meds that you get afterwards lol, just feels like a normal earache for a phew days. but its worth it in the long run because going untreated it can get bad. if you google prime minister of canada jean cretien, he has a crooked mouth. thats from late detection of cholost. and it started to attack his facial nerves right before he got it removed

  • @amandaolshove it hurts. But they were extremely close to my brain so it might be different for you

  • this 16yr old boy that just watched this will be forever traumitized. omg. im never going on youtube again

  • is this is what they are gonna do with me/??!!!

  • @OrtizJ208

That is what they have to do to you. If you don't get the operation and leave the cholesteatoma in the ear, it can cause way more damage. Even eating away at the protective membrane that protects your brain. Eat away at all the hearing bones in your ear, ear drums. If you or anyone here need a place or 2 to go and talk about your cholesteatoma check out my group on facebook Cholesteatoma - The Hidden Disease & as well I just started a forum cholesteatoma.ca

  • you just...what...did to ear...eww...help..

  • jesus crhist u fucked up that persons ear

  • omg was is das? :O

  • yuck YIKES this is what I may have to go through,,,hope my meds clear it up

  • @TinaWill3

I had a radical mastoidectomy and removal of a cholesteatoma when I was 12. It was not fun. The doctor had to basically remove my entire ear canal and reconstruct it, along with most of my mastoid. I have very little hearing in my affected ear. The infection/cyst had actually reached my skull and ate a hole through to the lining of my brain. Meds cannot clear this up as far as I know. The surgery lasted 5 hours, and there was quite a bit of pain involved. I hope you do well.

  • @rabidpensfan Well, but a cholesteatoma does'nt mean a lot of pain.

I've had my first operation when I was 11, but I had nearly no pain ;)

  • @StExAholic Yea it does!!! It may not for everybody but it has for me!!!

  • @TinaWill3

I also have to go back to an ENT specialist at least once every year to year and a half to have it cleaned. This is for the rest of my life as my ear cannot clean itself out now. I've had problems with twitching in my face, and even a mild fungal infection. But, the alternative is not good. This same thing killed my grandmother when my mother was 11. The infection reached her brain one week before she was scheduled to have it removed. Don't wait, it can end your life!!!

  • @rabidpensfan Oh my god I'm so sorry to hear that. I had a cholesteatoma removed from my right ear just over 5 months ago. I'm so pleased I did because life before the surgery was awkward to say the least.I hope you are doing well today though

  • I'm now recovering from having a Left Atticotomy - Cholesteatoma removed yesterday. Had the right ear done on Dec. 16th 2010. This one was more painful than the right ear. The op took 5 hours. Much less pain now though after a night in the hospital. When I was being discharged the nurse said that I had to return in 2 weeks to have the BIPP's removed and the 2nd surgery on this ear is scheduled for 9 months. Why do I have to have another surgery? I thought I was done :(

  • is this painfull afterwards?

  • i have had 13 ear surgerys already and i am 14. im having one of my last on march 14th for cholesteatoma. and then in 1 year they are replacing all my ear bones with some kind of metal ive beenthrough sooo muchhh ive been dealing with this my whole life.

  • @ArtFantasy101 I have had like 5 or something (im 14 so I cant reall remmeber all of them) But it has been gone for over a year, hopefully it is gone forever! Will pray for you

  • I have my third surgery for this tommarow

I'm getting a titanium ear bones to rebuild hearing

  • The scar behind my ear will always be there to keep this crap in my memory...I hope it won't come back.

  • How do you get cholesteatoma and what are symtoms of it??

  • @LittleNinja55 you are diagnosed with cholesteatoma after ear infection or other water leaks or dizzyness. The symptons are dizzyness, loss of hearing, and liquid pouring out from your ear. Cholestiatoma has a 10-20 percent chance of returning so yearly check-ups are suggested.

SOURCE: I have has this medical problem.

  • i've currently been dealing with this for a process of 4 surgerys, now having to go through my 5th and then now on my other ear which would be my 6th.my 18th year of age im still not quite sure when it will be gone.

but is this all normal than an average persion?-_-

  • Wait I dont get it... What's cholesteatoma and what are they doing to the watermelon?

  • I had recurring cholostetoma as a child so bad that a radical mastoidectomy was performed. My ear specialist said that I would "grow" out of this disease, which I finally did :) However, I have to go every 6 months to have the mastoid bowl cleaned out.

  • @charnanna Hi. I currently have cholesteatoma and I'm having the same procedure that you had next week!! How was the whole experience if you don't mind my asking? I'm glad you grew out of it, how long did that take? Many thanks!

  • i think im gna puke

  • If that's what my left ear looked like during the operation, then I'm happy that I was "sleeping". But I really think the worst about cholesteatoma is that it recurs. Well, at least my cholesteatoma just keeps regrowing. x_x

  • wtf is this shit

  • I had this at 6 years old. 4 surgeries later I still gotta go in to be examined at 18

  • most people hear probably have had a cholesteatoma, me included

  • gottagon for tis in 2mnths... not lookin forwards to it hoe i goes well

  • I had cholesteatoma. :/ I'm fine now, though. I have hearing loss (high-pitched, I can't hear the screeching fingernails on a chalkboard noise) in both ears, all 3 bones in my right ear are fake, 2 in my left are fake, and I have a hole in my right ear drum. I got off easy. ;) Hope the rest of you are okay.

  • @ginodahamy Hi... I had an atticotomy about 2 years ago now in my left ear. I didn't notice any hearing loss, but then I already had some deafness in that ear so I'm just glad the op didn't make it worse. I was suprised actually that I didn't lose more. I have to go back for checkups and now my right ear is playing up sometimes... grrrr. I'm so bored with my ears I don't think I even care anymore! lol

  • @BloodOfRayne yeah, I have to go back only for annual checkups, which are only annoying because I hate getting hearing tests (my ears ring for a while after) and yeah lol.. I don't care much anymore either hah... it just gets to the point of being tedious... the only thing is that my ears are really sensitive to different noises and pressure, and they've both been acting up lately :/ I'm almost used to it by now, though lol

  • @ginodahamy Heh, aye, I hear ya. Or rather I don't lol Ever had that thing were they stick that damn vacuum cleaner down your ear?! I hate it cos I'm thinking he's gonna accidently suck out whats left of my eardrum! lol I've lost certain tones too, like high pitch ones like you. But at least my ma's nagging is easier to deal with now. Always look on the bright side, eh! :D My point is, ya can't let this crap get ya down. Just know I have it to and I'm right there with you. ; )

  • @BloodOfRayne haha yeah, you do gotta just look on the bright side :) and yeah hah, that vacuum thing always used to scare the crap out of me, I haven't had it in a while, though :)

  • I was only 9 when i had my First Radical Masdoidectamey Cholesteatoma and mine is rea curring

  • i had cholesteatoma before

  • i had the surgery twice once when i was seven the other when i was 11.. your very dizzy afterwards abd cabt eat anything at all. now im partially deaf in that ear and i always have an ear infection .. also if water goes into my ear it dosent come out

  • this is nasty

  • i had this surgery preformed about three years ago,..mine took about four and a half hours and had grown quite extensively. I had extensive hearing loss in my left ear due to cholesteatoma. I have had perfect hearing and no problems since.

  • i'm having surgery for my cholesteatoma,in march.

  • when you had your surgery, how longf did your ear hurt, afterwards?

  • i got this and they had to remove 2 bones as well as the cholesteatoma and i got a artificial bone to replace it, but in 4rt grade it got knocked out of place and i got another one in 7th grade, and now in 8th grade my body is rejeckting it, and thats causing a tinnitus type thumping noise, and im taking some pills to help =(

  • I just found out I might have a cholesteatoma and I'm morbidly fascinated by this video is that weird?

  • Hi there , ok i had my surgery March 21-09

it was not bad. its been now few month i am all good and recovered. excellent doctor (Akira Ishyama) UCLA Medical Hospital. there was no pain , no drowsiness and no dizziness after the surgery . the sitches were dissolvable.

Question, guys how long did your ear keep draining after the surgery ? my doctor said its normal it will take a while before it dries out. but its been few months since my surgery ...Any one ?

  • I had my surgery last September 30th so it's nearly a year ago now. Mine went well too and I never had any draining after I had the dressing removed from my ear. My dressing was in for like 5 weeks! Maybe you had a Mastoidectomy. Mine was an atticotomy which I think is a step down. If your doc says it's normal though, don't stress. ;-)

  • i had Cholesteatoma to

  • Oh gosh that thing looks huge! Thanks for posting. I have had 3 surgeries and wondered what it looked like!

  • same.. except, mine keeps re-occurring, and ive had surgery at least 13 times.. they say it can travel all the way to the brain at some point..

  • i have to have this surgery every 18 months on my left ear because it keeps growing back

  • ive had 11 ops, 6 on right and 5 on left ,aceticman your comment is ridiculous lay off the crack.

  • can you hear in both ears fine? I had surgery at 8 and lost most of my hearing in my right ear as they had to remove almost everything. I've been having ear problems in my better ear lately and am afraid it might be this and that surgery would be required. :( I'm 25 now.

  • it looked like the doctor was just playing around.

  • oh my GOD. it was soo disgusting, but i simply couldn't look away! thats what i call morbid fascination O_o

  • I have cholesteatoma, Im about to have surgery number 10. Im completely deaf in my left ear and at risk of getting facial paralesis.

  • i think they removed a fatty cyst from the inner ear, and had to remove the ear drum and then put it back in. aaaaaaaaaaaaargh

  • my doc will do this to me? jesus

    i wish i havn't seen this one.

  • I had this done 3 months ago on my right ear. It isn't painful afterwards, you just have a dressing in the ear for about 3 weeks which can be kinda itchy. Lost a little hearing but it wasn't really that great anyway. Anyways... good luck. :)

  • hi there , who was your doctor? i was diagnosed a week ago with it , and i am freeking out .

  • Hi. My doctors name was "zitou", or something like that. Not sure how it's spelt. I live in the U.K. so I'm not sure how much help that will be to you. All I will say is, try not to freak out about it. I found that it wasn't nearly as bad as some things you read on the internet, although I guess there are different circumstances etc... But I'm sure you will be fine. ;-)

  • did he fuck up tht ear
