  • tracking united forces !!! so is this from 1984?

  • does this guy ever age?

  • Ah ! 1:07 > United Forces ! (Use your imagination and try to figure out here the sound of a heavily distorted guitar ) :

    E E G F# F - E E G F# F- E E G F# F- A A A A A# A#

ahm... Killer song and amazing drummer by the way ...

  • Lars Ulrich watched this video.

  • lars ulrich disliked this!

  • That rack tom is the size of my floor tom lol

  • UNITED FORCES!! S.o.d rules

  • You are correct CoTeCiOtm. Lars Ulrich is good, but nowhere near as good as Charlie Benante

  • Fastest double bass ever recorded (in a "song" format) is Among The Living, hands down the fastest double bass ever recorded. Saw it played live (1987) it was even faster then the recording (studio album). Sweet. God Damn Charlie Benante used to plat fast as FK! DAMN! =)

  • @icup3o Dog Boots by Virgil Donati is way more faster...

  • @Kingondahill

Could be, youre right. I forgot about Virgil... ya he has ALOT of technique. Probably, but Ive never heard that tune though... but I DONT doubt it, not at all

It is just that I listened to ALOT of Anthrax growing up (mid 1980s Anthrax) and Charlie Benantes drumming on those two albums was FKN FAST as FK.

Out of all the drummer playing *this style* of drumming, Charlie is the fastest... although Ive seen Brooks Wackerman play with the Vandals several times, and he FN RIPS!

  • @Kingondahill

Also, Virgil (that I know of) has never played in a band that puts out albums and tours in support. Meaning he is more of a fusion guy / hired gun / solo or "independent" artist. So most kids (like me when growing up) are / were unaware of Virgil, I listened (back then) to local bands and up and comers

Charlie is and was the fastest dbl bass player and fastest fills - EVERYTHING he played was FAST AND POWERFUL - BOTH

Also listened to Slayer, not as fast or pwrfl DBL BASS.

  • @icup3o Virgil plays in Planet X. This bands does tour and let people say "uuuhhhh" when Virgil starts 'Dog Boots'...LOL Saw it three times, and he makes me cry...for I'm a drummer too...haha...

  • @Kingondahill They also made four albums.

  • @Kingondahill

Im gonna HAVE TO check out Planet X (already did Youtube) - fkn SWEET. I LOVE ODD METER!

I hear you - but - me also liking old school punk rock, thrash / crossover - those two styles are played more loosely, and an emphasis on aggression - pounding into the drums, a different feel then fusion or prog rock (but alot of similarities as well). Charlie captured that pounding and aggressive drumming - dbl bass FAST and Powerful where other drummers in that vein weaken - out of room

  • @Kingondahill

Have also seen transcriptions of Virgil's drumming, 16ths on BD at FAST tempos for extended periods - yes, the fastest Ive ever heard of. He uses dbl strokes at those tempos, pretty FN amazing! (dbl strokes on BD meaning rr ll, not rlrl)

I think at "this style" of drumming / music Charlie is / was the fastest (and most powerful). Some drummers at faster tempos start to weaken (their feel becomes shakey) - not Charlie, he just burns (or burned) through everything. PWRFL & FST

  • Charlie Benante, Paul Bostaph, Gar Samuelson(R.I.P), John Tempesta, and Nick Menza...what do they all have in common? There some of the best fucking drummers on the planet thats what

  • @ZeroMurasame and Dave Lombardo?

  • Dave to

  • @ZeroMurasame they are not- for sure. maybe they have got a name of drummers of good bands but there exist much better drummers. Check out Thomas Lang; he is one of my favourites and much better for sure. Believe me, I know what I am talking about.

  • @ZeroMurasame Gene Hoglan too!

  • I heard a legend about Charlie Benante years ago.

It is said that when Anthrax first formed, he played so hard/fast that at the end of each show, Charlie was left beating a pile of dust where his drum kit once stood! To remedy this, Charlie's drum tech secretly replaced his heads with Kevlar, the cymbals and drum bodies with titanium/carbide, and the sticks with an unknown metal found in a crashed meteor found in Death Valley.

This is just what I've heard at shows, I think it's true. You?

  • I bet Charlie's bandmates never made the statement "He wasn't the best drummer, but he put a lot of heart into his music". Nobody can do the crazy shit Charlie does on the drums.

  • Charlie Benante is sooooo much better than Lars Ulrich...

  • true but lars, dave, charlie, nicko, and mikkey are my favorite metal players

  • @CoTeCiOtm lars ulrich today sucks.. old lars was great but nowadays somebody can drum better with 2 sticks up his rectum

  • @cliffthelightning Yep, he was solid until And Justice For All... Nowadays he can't play anything alright.

  • @CoTeCiOtm

    sureeeee ....claroo...... auhhuauhauhauha lars AHUHAHUAHUAHUAHUAHU

  • @CoTeCiOtm Yeah, and Lars has soooo much more money... :P

  • @CoTeCiOtm no shit

  • @CoTeCiOtm

Who the fuck ist Ulrich? A tennis player?

  • @CoTeCiOtm That's an understatement.

  • @CoTeCiOtm i think every one is better even me :D

  • @CoTeCiOtm or anyone in the genre;-)

  • United Forces is a good song.

  • Dan Lilker is a good bassist.

  • Anthrax is by far the most underrated band. Every bit as good as Metallica....they just decided to not sell out. Listen to the albums Persistence of Time, State of Euphoria, or my fave AMONG THE LIVING.....and they are better than the albums Metallica put out around the same time. Anthrax f*ckin' rules!

  • dude thats totally up to how you interprit bring the noise

  • charlie is the perfect drummer!

  • hes so laid back, i love it, hes so lethal

  • so is that the infamous kit that laid down some the heaviest stuff of that era? at the end of this clip he starts to play United Forces. kinda cool, you listen to those SOD songs for 20 years, and now you see what kit he had (drum setup, paiste rude cymbals, etc). I would like to see more clips from this session - song like Milk, Freddy Kruger, and my personal fav, Kill Yourself (kill youself, kill yourself, why dont you kill yourself, dont really on no one else, end it all, Kill Yourself, ....)

  • Charlie don't cheat! LOL

  • yay! Charlie rocks! :)

  • Your sister and mom are underrated!

    Scott and Charlie rule

  • Anthrax is a pretty underrated band, if you haven't noticed either.

  • Synch up the sound!

  • Tim Yeung from Divine Heresy makes this look like nothing. But Charlie is good.

  • Apples and oranges ...

  • Onions and pickels!...lol

  • But he plays really easy stuff but very fast, Charlie plays more complicated but slower so: some like to play fast easy stuff and some like more ambitious stuff, it depends on the music you play

  • I don't care who you are or how fancy your technique is, playing "fast easy stuff" at 240+ bpm isn't easy.

Take off the skirt and THRASH!!!

  • Charlie, beats the beat, the beats you beat

  • that song is funny

  • BEAST!!!!!!

  • i like a lot of drumme charlie is really good but dave lombardo is my favorite

  • Charlie is GOD! damn he's my fav drummer ever!

  • Yeah, he fucking rules, man.

  • you said my mind

  • Charlie Benante is the most underrated drummer like ever. Best in the 80s and still one of the best..the terrible sound is because of the camera.

  • frank bello (anthrax's bassist, charlie's nephew through a much older sister) is an underrated bassist

he joined because anthrax fired the guy in S.O.D. and Charlie new a great bassist

  • Interesting fact supporting how important THE FAMILY is for THEM.

  • and charlie is an underrated drummer

  • Scott and Dan are underrated guitarists ;)

  • Joey Belladonna is an underrated singer

  • men DAN SPITZ IS A LITTLE GIANT GUITAR GOD

    CHARLIE IS GOD DRUMMER

    SCOTT IS GOD

FRANK........ the only bassist that can compares with Cliff Burton and cliff is god

    JOEY IS GOOD :P

  • anthrax is an underrated band!

  • they are known as one of the big 4 thrash bands.givin they be known as the 4h but there an elite known band

  • out of all 4 bands anthrax was probably the most unfamous. anthrax is better than megadeth hands down.

and metallica was waaaaay to overrated.

    id say

    1slayer

    2anthax

    3megadeth

    4metallica

    thats what i meant.

  • i wouldnt say they are better then megadeth but i would say they are better then metallica.

  • my verdict of most famous old school thrash bands gotta be:

    Joint 1st Anthrax & Testament

    2megadeth

    3exodus

    4kreator

    5slayer

    6metallica

Just not that into metallica- boring as fuck live, oh and slayer get fuckin irritating after a while- just my humble opinion!

  • completely- but they've never been ones to sell out! Well- nearly...

  • @thrashingjustin Not amongst the people I know =D

  • @thrashingjustin buhaahahahh

  • they can be set up however he wants, he plays em

  • horrible sounding and looking drums....he has them on such an awkward angle too. crazy good tho.

  • Best Drummer In Thrash Metal Hands Down!!

  • yeah drums on SOD just rocked.

  • the only one to play solo guitar on speak english or die.

  • got that right jspalding

  • kick ass drummer
