I think the message they're trying to get across is that our society has abandoned the true meaning of humanity, and replaced it with greed. When they say "we all fool ourselves when we share the wealth" i believe what they're saying is that we flat out don't see the greed that drives our nation. the wealthy people in this country make it sound like they want to help even out the social class gap, but instead they get more and more wealthier, while the poor slip into even more poverty.
