  • Yes this video is bad, but 1976 was bad. thats why we had to have a change in musical direction. Thank god for new wave!

I love duul though, . I played archangel to myself the other day, and was blown away at how timeless and modern sounding that band were!!

  • @moonlitemile61 1976 was the year Starcastle arrived and shifted things back toward an ultimate direction! This sounds like Elton John and Keke Dee by comparison... sounds like Dr John joined w/ Mountain. Not my cup of sourkraut and sauce... prob a bad 1st taste of this band that, till now, I'd only read about.

  • people. who don´t know history of amon düül maybe skip this immediately.

of course i didn´t like it in 76, but today i understand, why they tried to make things like that. it was an attempt and don´t take it too serious. south germany in the late 70s was a diaspora.

  • rare look @ the Pyragony X line-up...get the CD and blast off!!!

  • I can't believe the band that made Yeti went on to produce this...

  • Of course...they look terrible. Horrible image and fashion sense.

But I'd never seen them before, only listened to the albums, so that doesn't matter to me.

np - Cappaccino... c'mon it's an awesome song! So is Flower Of The Orient and Lost In Space.

    Maybe I'm just nuts.

  • I love Cappaccino ...crystal hexagram is amazing too

  • Like, I think Merlin is a great song. That bouncy pop sound isn't at all like Spinal Tap. Post 1974 Duul to me seems like a band trying to turn pop but they've got too many progressive roots, so it turns into a pop tinged with all these crazy keyboards and atmospheric touches.

And Hijack seems like a good album...and Almost Alive is pretty much amazing from start to finish. I wonder if I hear the same band as others. EVERYONE says they suck post 1974 but there are so many awesome songs...

  • @Staticnz i just listened to highjack and it's surprisingly diverse and solid..a more mature effort.and made in germany sounds like 60s pop psych....so its hard to believe that this was made the same year becauase it's a bit on the blande side.....but then i heard something on youtube from after this that was spacey.........who knows what they were thinking.

  • @Staticnz - i agree! 100%

  • @Staticnz totally right!!!!!

  • I don't understand why, maybe I have bad taste, but I've got all of Amon Duul II from Phallus Dei to Almost Alive... and I seem to like the post 1974 stuff better than their early stuff. Their early stuff is scary, dramatic and innovative, but their post 1974 is so fun, bouncy and especially lush and spacy. I really love the cheesy keyboard sounds the guy uses...so retro, so 70s...

I think it's because I'm a complete sucker for poppier music with a beat.

  • I don't think that this group is Amon Duull!

  • Put utter crap like this next to the likes of Eye-Shaking King and Restless Skylight Transistor Child and you'll see just how bad ADII sold out. It's sad, but it does make you appreciate the raw, chaotic power of their first three albums more.

  • Comment removed

  • though it was the first really bad AD LP this the song is significant: chris karrer plays a great guitar, john weinzierl sings bad, but interesting

  • The Ebert-Zauner fronted lineup; thanks to smile67 for putting up this very rare clip.

The music, anyway, is of very low quality; from their "Pyragony X" album (1976).

  • Sad, but this is still better than most of what's been popular since.

  • im cryin cuz this is wat happend to amon duul 2

  • What kind of crap is this?

These guys aren't AMON DUUL II.

  • ha ha ha- perfect song- perfect destruction of everything amon düül did before... rest in peace

  • The guitar break / middle riff is goddamn the best riff on the firmament..

  • yeah amon dull II !!!!!!!

  • Everything ADII did after 1974 was pure crap.

  • let the children abuse it, starman. he's talking to bowie about long alpha stars and omega years, watch?v=muMcWMKPEWQ

    IdentityCrisisBH† : hey now now

IdentityCrisisBH† : my dominion: that which is mine, however, shall this evening and tonight be yours. Mine animals shall serve you:let my cave be your resting-place! At house and home

  • yes, rush that spinal tap, on peter grant's tab, or the bastardization of the crossroads

  • yes only human ahhhhhhhh wott was with that ?

  • Yes, that IS John Weinzierl singing lead on this! Unsurprisingly, he jumped ship after this. And no, it wasn't from their worst album. That dubious honour goes to the ghastly Only Human. Pyragony X may have been lame, but at least there was no DISCO on it! Ugh! [gringe]

  • Crap track from their worst album.

  • Isn't it Stefan Zauner from Münchener Freiheit on keyboards ? At the end of the clip.

  • Yes, Stefan Zauner was on some of the las ADII albums. He also has two 70s solo album in the prog vein

  • Its Spinal Tap arrite.

  • who is singing? I hope it's not john weinzierl!

  • oh dear. this is more like spinal tap than amon duul 2.

  • that ain't amon duul

  • oh no, this is some shitty ad2.
