this song isnt just about sailing.....it compares a sinking ship to a failing relationship using metaphors.....you should have pics of more than just ships and water in this imo
brand new have such a good style, alot of songs by them i really enjoy. Would say that this has some nice metaphors that could be thought upon further, talked about the sinking of the shipping, my peronaly favourate is "need you like water in my lungs". Its touching :) lol.
this song has alot of the beatles refrences. "This aint the Dakota"- the complex where John Lennon was killed. and when he says "never could see any other way" is a line repeated in the beatles song a day in the life.
seriously people, you shouldn't be thinking about boats when you hear this.
that's just a metaphor. it's about love. love that fell apart. "what the call, love -is a risk. cause you always get hit out of no where by some wave and end up on your own." it's about love,, not boats.
i used to listen to this song after i moved from home out on a boat on lake tahoe and there will never be a more perfect setting for it than on water (unless you're on the open sea lol)
the beauty lies in the composition.
the decision to write this in 3/4 time along with the strumming pattern follows the natural rhythm of the ocean perfectly, setting the entire piece into a true story, rather than just a song.
the guys of brand new, are in every respect, true musicians
i am the one that haunts your dreams of mountains sunk below the sea...this song is so sad it keeps me up at night when i listen to it. arguably the best song ever
this song always gave me a kind of "freedom" feeling, wind that blows into your hair, nature.. its a beautiful song.. and ur video really expresses itself in the lyrics from the song, really good job
Wait maybe I just noticed something. Did you add faint sounds of the ocean in the background. Maybe it's just in my head, but it sounds cool. Could you tell me please. My speakers really suck so I can't tell.
Wow. very good work. Loved the images. There are a couple I would have switched around, but they were still fantastic. Great work to compliment such a wonderful song. Good job mate!
They call 'em rogues. They travel fast and alone. = )

Beautiful pictures. Def gives you a sailors feel for the ocean. Which is very much a " wavy" relationship. Beautifully done

@PAPAtrog If you look for something hard enough, you'll find it.
I can find Beatle references in Manson.

what else could he mean when he says "this aint the dakota?"
hippy0024 1 year ago
@hippy0024 the SS Dakota was an american ship that sank on the japanese coast in the early 1900's, not sure of an exact year, might've been 1906?
Pokemasten 1 year ago
"this aint the dakota" is refering to a ship that sank, with the captain staying fast with it, quite obviously.
