As far as I know, the inner mall is empty and closed since the last tenants left. Sears even put up a wall where it's access to the mall was. Kohl's and Walmart never had access. That mall is officially dead.
It is still open, and there is actually a cleaning crew that goes around cleaning the windows and floors. Walmart moved in next door and everyone thought that a huge store like Walmart would help the business in the Mall, but instead, they closed themselves off to the Mall with a wall. I think all that's in there now is a little museum about a military ship, or something.
I have not lived in RI for years, and I guess I come from the Old School, but I still call it The Midland Mall, How many people remember that??? Did it actually close??
@cybhunter007 This mall is still opened. But it certainly does fall into the ghost mall category. There's only about five stores opened in that whole place.
Beautiful interior design inside this wonderful mall! Such architectures should be preserved. I love these old malls built in the 60's and 70's as they had such unique designs! You would love the interior design of the Galleria Mall in Houston, Tx! as it is so fascinating!
@4aaaaa4 America is the victim of the welfare state. Corporate aggression can only work in a society of dullard like the American population. America is over and you better learn to grow your own food.
@tippycolfax Yes you and 100 million dullards, you are not a dullard since I am sure you understand the fine points of fractional reserve banking and the historical disasters of fiat money, can get deadly aggressive when porvoked. Since you have an understanding of the social consequences of a massive paradigm shift as we are about to experience, I am sure you will take my advice and find a nice piece of land on which you can grow food.

@4aaaaa4 Corporate aggression is facilitated by the masses who happen to be asses. Since the majority of Americans have fallen into the dullard category, they don't have the ability to understand the greatness of Ron Paul nor the simple nature of Barry Obama. Corporate and political power are one in the same and the simpletons, Americans, don't know the difference. Mother Nature and Darwin are going to hand the simpletons their ass pretty soon. Think WEIMAR.
Great video - pity your camera work leaves so much to be desired. please try holding the camera still next time and doing a slow pan so we can actually see without getting motion sickness..
and the real reason why you don't see many people at the Rhode Island Mall is because of the Providence Place Mall. they see an average of about 1,000,000people a day while the Rhode Island Mall see an average of about 50 a day
i go to the rhode island mall about 3 times a month because of The Toy Vault which is shown at 2:02 it has a lot of classic games EVEN A DREAMCAST that's where i got my new genesis :)
i also use to get pokemon cards there because 1 pack of cards is like $2.00 while walmart has them for $10.00 and you can pick certain cards as well i have so many memories going there it's still opened and i think i want to go tomarrow! :D
This is what's going to happen to the Independence Mall in Kingston/Plymouth Massachusetts one day. So far the taco bell, mcdonalds, the arcade, several small business stores, cell phone kiosks, steve and barry's, and several other stores I can't seem to think of have closed. It's going to be demolished anyway because it was built in 1989 which is considered old now-adays.
Despite what most people think on here, this isn't because of the recession. As a lifetime resident of Warwick, RI I can tell you the Mall's been a dead mall for over 6 years. No one knows why or how to fix it. But there is a mall less than a mile away that is just like any other with Macy's and all the fixins. We do have a Gamestop at the RI mall which keeps it in business. Yeah RI!
they should open it for a flee market on saturday . and sell spots . it would be great ! ( the rent for the stores is to expensive for small companies) .
This is happening more and more all the time thanks to the lazy A*&H%$#S that have to do all of their shopping online instead of actually go out and shop. There are a lot of people like me who still like to get out of the house and shop. THANKS INTERNET SHOPPING!
Well, there are some people who are too busy. Still, I have a lot of chances during the summer and winter break to go out to malls and shops. I prefer actually going out somewhere.
lmao that mall is so abandoned that some guy put up a sign saying thatnot to ask whats going on with the mall we don't know. What really happened with this mall

I will have to look into that. It was on the news this past year that it was closing. Maybe they were mistaken?

I think it's a great video.
Thanks for sharing this. and it's important that we all remember the RI mall..I remember it was the Midland Mall)
I dont agree with the comment that the camera work was unstable .. It could have been way worse
There are many many good aspects of the video work,
If more of us look at what is RIGHT, instead of only criticizing what's wrong, the world might be peaceful.
The video nicely shows the closed shops
A GREAT elevator ride
