  • the camaro that was run at SCCA was a 302 cross-ram setup and sorry but it dominated the SCCA from the start. in 1967 the Z28 was delivered late to the race team but still went on to win 3 races for that series, in 68 it won 10 of the 13 races (8 in a row at one point) and gave chevrolet the manufactures title that year, and in 69 it won half the series 12 races, won its second consecutive trans am title and dominated the boss 302 ford put out.......

  • i wonder how far you could push one if you lowered the stroke a little more and upgraded the valvetrain. 10000? maybe 11000?

  • damn i would love to have a original chevy 302 but i will probably not find one so i will make one, take a 327 block and put a 283 crank in it and there you go, a chevy 302

  • @metallicasg100 In 68-69 302 was a large journal 350 block...

  • @DrMMHMD What ever. Roseville restorations says around 500hp and Traco race engines dynos there race 302cid cross ram @ 470hp. So they're up to the challenge.

  • @DrMMHMD Like I stated; I'm referring too the (Trans Am) race version engine. This is a quote by a Ford engineer from an article. The team Penske camaro purportedly dynoed @\

    450hp.

  • Till you get up over 500 CID its gay

  • Holy horse- Makes you wonder what the crossram option is putting out.

  • @jrzy49 I know a guy that had one and the 780 holly ran better then the cross ram in 69.

  • Hey this might be a radical idea but you could have shown the results unless it was a secret.

  • whoever disliked this either accidently did it or just doesnt have a soul.

  • so this is the engine that comes straight out of a stock 1969 camaro ss?

  • @nickrod666 No this would have been in the Z/28. Smallest engine for a 69 Camaro SS was the 350.

  • That sounds soo, so good. Tom Nelson builds great engines. I wish he were located on the east coast where I live.

  • What kinda torque we lookin at here? I would guess around 410ftlbs just from the engine squeezing alone. Also, was the DZ Camaro frame lightened?

  • Fantastic engine but sorry,a boss 302 is just as good.

  • @vinman1029 No need to be sorry dude. They're both great engines.

  • this dz engine in general is the best engine ever built. with that displacement and that horse power. no one is near no one!!!! Ford, you have to get back to the drawing boards... again!!

  • dz 302 AWESOME!!!

  • ah I love that sound,I miss mine

  • Rated at 290 horsepower... my ass.. oh wait it did make 290hp... at 4100 rpm..lol...440 at 8000

  • A 1967 302 Z28 now holds the NHRA national record for D/Stock, 10.45 @ 126 mph. Made just under 500 hp.

  • In '69 the for engineers covertly bought the parts from GM to build a race version DZ 302 to find out what they were up against. it dynoed at 500hp

  • @10mak01 The Z28 engine I'm referring too is the full race version used for Trans Am racing. Supossedly the team Penske car dynoed @450hp.

  • awesome. sounds ike 400+hp to me?!:) sweet1THANKS!

  • i still have a dz302 but no car.

  • @samsonofjesus ill buy it right now

  • Awesome engine.what were the dyno results?

  • Continued from below! And of course the heads and crank but nothing else did! I put this engine into a heavy 78' Z28 Camaro and with a M-22 I still had to run 4.88 gears and with one 780 holley launching @ 5,500 rpms it would jerk the wheels off the ground but after 3 M-22 trannies I was broke and had to go with a TH400 and a 3k stall! Then I lost all the power so I had to change the gears from 4.88 to 5.38 and got it back! One thing I never blew the engine even @ 8,000 rpm's through the traps

  • Continued, Chevy took advice from street racers and combined the 3.00 short stroke with the modest 4.00 bore to create a true 302cid raw monster! I had one of the first prototypes that was made in 1967 it was small journal and it was so early that it actually came with blueprints to the engine! my uncle passed away and left me this engine and like a fool I sold it in the mid 80's as there was no demand for this engine back then! Honestly, the only thing that had a part # was the block! read on-

  • The DZ 302 was created to compete in the Trans-Am road races and it dominated the Ford 302 Boss and the Mopar 340 and anything else that got in it's way! Street trim with one 4 barrel carb it was underrated at 290hp for insurance reasons but was more like 390hp the road race version with the cross ram 2x4 carb set up and the famous Duntov "off road" special grind solid lift flat tappet cam was underrated at 390hp but was at 600hp! Street cars had 4.10 gears and race cars had between 5.13-5.57

  • keep in mind the dz 302 wasnt made to produce massive horsepower. it was made to scream at 8 thousand rpms for road racing. not a drag motor by any means

  • u dnt knw wat yur talkn bout

  • how much horsepower did that bad boy produce?

  • i think they are like 375 or so stock

  • @flmcnh this one propably about 400. Which is a lot for 'just a 302' !
