Yur lorri reminded me so much of my own.. I know exactly how it feels to loose such a wonderful bird.. They become more then just a bird mine was my best friend.. I can only imagine that yours was the same xo
naww this is so sad. I have a rainbow lorikeet of my own and mine is learning to say hello and sounds exactly as your bird did. i did end up crying because i love my lorikeet buddy and i would hate to lose him like that.. your bird seemed very smart and i hope to teach mine the same tricks as yours. <3
I came back to watch Zellkai He was so sweet. I have my two Lorikeets out with me right now. Both are playing. Max just said ( what chu doin, I reply d watching this. Then he said.. that's all right. Max is so much like Zellkai. I'm glad that you have 2 others now. All the best to you and your new babies. Bye :-}
You have me in tears right now. This is so hard to watch. You loved him so much. God I love my 2 Rainbow Lorikeets Max and Ringo. Ringo is a female. I love them with all my hart and I would die for them too. God I am so sorry four your loss. I do not wont the same thing to happen to mine. How do I protect my birds from this? :((
@58Clams Zell died from a virus caught from another rainbow lorikeet. To keep your birds safe, if you've been to a pet shop or somewhere that has birds (especially lorikeets or cockatoos), immediately have a shower and change your clothes when you get home. Zell died because I failed to do this one day. Also lorikeets are very messy so routinely change their newspaper, remove uneaten fruits, and clean their cage. That should help. I now have 2 lorikeets Axel and Loki who I love very much!
So sorry your beautiful lory died. I have a green nape lory named Nikki who I love to pieces. It is so hard to lose a beloved pet. Our 13 year old dog Max died last june 8, 2009. I cried so much I became ill. I know how you must have felt. Your bird was beautiful and very sweet. Your video made me cry.
Sorry to hear of your loss, Rianbows are such affectionate parrots that when you loose one it is like loosing a child. I had lost one a few years ago and it took me a long time to get over his death. I have recently had my hand raised cockatiel die suddenly, Sasha my hand raised Rainbow, calls out for her still today. She was raised with this special little cockatiel and best friends for over five years. I eventualy wrote a song in tribute to her.
Just to add to this, 6 months later Lori has regained a minimal amount of eyesight but has memorised where everything is in the house and is still as happy (and naughty) as ever. Of course he walks around now instead of flying.
Our Lori nearly died some months ago - one day he just woke up very ill, we took him to the vets where he was given an injection, it was touch and go for many days and we had to force feed him, at the time this seemed cruel as I felt we were prolonging the agony for him - anyway days later he made a miraculous recovery, but he appeared to have lost his sight. We took him to an avian vet and who told us he was blind and had probably contracted viral ecephalitis.
i read your answer on Y! Answers. thanks for answering. and im so sorry about your loss. Zell was a beautiful bird. probably the most beautiful Iv seen.
He was usually clipped and I would have him flighted for a few weeks before clipping him again. His behaviour and how he got around didn't appear any different whether he was clipped or not. Although he would fly into trouble and nearly hurt himself when he was flighted. :P
I'm getting another lorikeet and am thinking of leaving him flighted, or maybe semi-clipped.
Wow ! looking forward to seeing him. I still have issues with clipping or not to clip. I know it will keep them safe and that but I also feel that I am depriving them of a natural behavior.
My gumnut is currently clipped thats how he came to me from the breeder. I guess I just have to see onec he starts flying.
So sorry to hear your little friend has gone. Im sitting here with tears streaming down my face with my rainbow lorikeet sitting on my shoulder. We loved your tribute.
It was Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome, a virus that someone brought inside on their clothes from another lorikeet. There is no treatment for it and they often die within 24-48 hours of catching it. So it happened very quickly. I took him to an avian vet but he died there.
Im sooo sorry to hear you baby passed away. Ya it was the hardest thing Ive had to deal with in a long time loosing him!! He was outr baby and a light in many peoples lives!
God Bless you in this time of hurt! They will be missed!
This is a sad part of life, they leave to soon and they are always missed so much. You don't know how much until they are gone.... It is good to know them for the small time we have them.

The music is so sweet, and knowing he was gone made me sad, but he did such funny things that I was laughing even as the tears were on my face.
Well may he be called a "rainbow" lorikeet; Zell is like all pets in one, bird, kitten, puppy, and even kangaroo!
He is jumping up and down on the Rainbow Bridge as he waits for you to come and scratch his little blue head and play ball with him.
RIP Zell; I'm glad I saw this even if it did make me cry. :_)
