Actually even though the foundation of parkour is in gymnastics, and they are closely related, you need not practice gymnastics before doing parkour. It does help, of course, as you will have gained the flexibility of movement, but it is not a pre-requisite.
There are currently two gyms that hold parkour classes in Edmonton, Ortona Gymnastics (GO Centre), and Capital City Gymnastics.
So I heard that you should start with gymnastics before you try parkour...is that true? Cuz I haven't heard of any parkour classes in Edmonton so I was wondering...
@huy56 Phoenix Gymnastics on 99st is deecent also. Ortona is down for a bit because they are moving locations right now. I also have heard of champion gymnastics, never been though. Phone in and ask when open gym is.
Some of these Moves aren't parkour, it just bar swinging and jumping over matts. wheres the Urban Fun! and the practition of Basic Parkour and Freerunning moves.
Nice Tricks :P im 14 and a newbie (as in ive never even tried) but i want to learn, so ive been looking for people to help me... and if theres a gym where people meet to do this then even better :D
so is there actually a place in edmonton where you can learn parkour in a gym? i heard from some people that gymnastics definately helps but i dont wanna join it unless im sure
Unfortunately there aren't any organized parkour classes in Edmonton, however I often do beginner jams where I try to show newbies the basics. So far very few people have shown up for these, despite the large number of people who claim to want to learn...
What about you, are you interested to join a beginners' jam?
oh my gosh i love that gym go there every wednesday i always see guys doing parkour but im always to nervous to ask for pointers since i would love to get into parkour if you guys could post some vids with things to try and what to use when trying them(like mats, bars and such) that would be awsome mabye ill see you guys traiing at capital!

They should post the spoofs more often, it makes the beginners feel less clumsy.
Plus they made me laugh.

parkour training looks pretty fun! I've never gone to capital, usually either Ortona or Phoenix
khiem15 2 years ago
What do you train there, parkour, or just stuff in general?
revirvlkodlaku 2 years ago
I like to trick, but I've wanted to try parkour, because it looks interesting.

Maybe you should join us on an outdoor jam then. Look up EDPK online, we have a forum where we post all our jams.
