  • I enjoy your discussion on wooden canon balls of the Civil War. My great grandfather, William Harrison Bettis was a canon swabber in Daniel's Texas Battery that fought in Texas and Louisiana. He and his two brothers, John C. and Thomas C. were are three transferred into this unit from the Arkansas Dallas Infantry. Thomas C. did not survive the War but died of disease. My greatfather was deaf because of his duties as a canon swabber.
