Why would a guy spend the ransom money paying the rent on his house? He's either totally stupid or innocent. That's not mumbo jumbo. Its common sense.

He ( Schwartzkopf ) fabricated evidence and the fact that he did was no secret,,,seems like state police were, for the most part, untouchable in those days.
Prominent state witnesses admitted in later years that Schwartzkopf used pressure and veiled threats to have them falsify their evidence. Imagine sending an innocent man to his death,,,disgusting.
