Woodchester's reputation is actually a myth. The builders did not flee in terror, leaving their tools. The work stopped because the owner decided he didn't want to go on paying for it. It was standard practice at the time to leave tools at a site where work might be restarted in the future. There is no record of a haunting at Woodchester prior to the interest in ghost hunting, when suddenly a host of stories were invented for tourism purposes. Woodchester continues to make money from them.
I agree with you. I have visited this house more than once years back and it always felt welcoming and safe. It is interesting to see the tools left as they were 100 years ago.
Your films are always so well made and with many engaging and mysterious inhabitants... at 4:42 those visages i've seen many times and most always in a mirror...

'Woodchester Mansion', near Stroud, Gloucester! (also the home of the charity A.S.S.A.P., Happy 30th Birthday!) of course...
I could watch this forever...The part about the deaths of the twenty drowned GIs is particularly interesting...It is indeed absolutely beautiful;the Mansion sits in a deep valley prone to 'cold ponding'... pockets of cold, damp air becoming trapped, causing dramatic temperature falls..Could this be what sends a chill up visitors' spines? Reminds me of Bamburgh Castle!
Beautiful manor house. It's more likely that someone stopped paying the contractors and they mistakenly left a few tools behind (still happens, to this day) -- but that's not nearly as creepy. Annoying, but not creepy.
Gosh! You made4 this video? Liked and faved. You are awesome. Go you! What a good film-maker you are. Great text, photos, soundtrack, editing, etc. I really enjoyed it and felt like I was right there. Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing more of your stuff! -Michael :)
Is there any black ghost? Can you see black ghost? I take it that this ghost is a man, so is there any Woman ghost? And do these ghosts have ghost sex? Do ghost speaks english
Well-done! Thank you for this interesting history of this lovely old manor....I hope someday that someone who has the funds, cleanses the energies and renovates! It seems most places have some ghosts, if they've been around long enough...but there are alternatives to abandonment, from what I've seen on the "Ghosthunters" and other shows dealing with the paranomal. Really enjoyed watching this....blessings...:*D
Places like that just make me sad. Somebody's heart, and creativity went into designing the place.. but it wasn't important enough to anybody else to finish the job. Could you imagine how beautiful the building would've been had it been finished and used? I'd want to live there. It's probably haunted because it's lonely.
Outstanding as always, Ghostwatching.. what a shame such a beautiful old house is abandoned and neglected. I wish I could visit England, just to see so much history, layers upon layers of history! Thanks!
I think I've seen this place on a couple programs about haunted houses. Is the one where a phantom black dog scared off the workers and thats why it was never finished?
@kitty3309 Hi Kitty, no i don't think so. Its pretty dangerous inside as the building wasn't finished so you have to go with an organized investigation to see it. The lake and park around it might be open to the public though and the lake is just as haunted as the mansion.
