  • 0:15 that basenji he's holding is mine lol.

  • 1.he said niko, not mikko

    2.NIKO! COUSIN! lol jk xD

  • i have a leonberger and its true that they are gentile giants because bear (thats his name lol) has had severe hip problems and spine issues since he was a puppy. He was abused, lived in filth, and had his tail cut off. He was found on the side of the road in a box with his sister, but luckily they were both saved by the CCRC. Even after what happened to him he is the biggest love and only wants to cuddle. He is four now, and finally has the love he deserves :)) <3

  • I love the leonberger!

  • I am NOT a dog person, at al. But my in laws have a Leo and she is the sweetest dog ever. I always say - if every dog was like Sally, I would be a dog person. I wish they were a wee bit more common, I would love to get a Leo or a Leo mix whenever we get around to getting a family dog. Gentle giant is just the best description for them, and so calm too!

  • @homefront...you're wrong. The average life expectancy for a Leonberger is 8-10 years.

  • Ah, I used to have a Schipperke. They'll keep you on your toes!!! But I am so interested in a Leonberger :)

  • @ShareYourUnderwear i own a leo, but my shipperke always starts fighting with him,and the shipperke wins. its so cute.

  • Gorgeous Leonberger! Why was the guy walking the dog like that though? Very cute. Give the dog a real bone, not a biscuit!

  • I just want to tackle hug every leonberger i see !!!

  • And so the "bred for no reason than to look like a lion" myth continues...

  • @opinonion ...its true...the fact they they make amazing rescue dogs and such is an added bonus!!

  • that chiuahuah so small

  • haha the women said leoooon burger! :D

    das heißt leonberger :P

  • i heard they were breed for water recue dogs in germany back in the 1800's... love these dogs

  • @curtistownsend hi there nope newfoundlands were breed to be water dogs..

  • they live to an average of 4 to 5 years old, their size go's against them when it comes to health problems

  • @thehomefront hi there, i have a 8 year old leonberger, and hes doing fine, Leonbergers live av 8-10years

  • I love the leonberger. We had one in ten years, but unfortunatly she died in may:( i was devistated, she was the best dog ever:) and i miss her <3

  • Such a splendid breed! i always wanted a german Sheperd, however hearing on how the breeders have screwed them up over the years with interbreeding, as a result getting the horrid hind legs which just cripples them with hip displacia i decided to find a new breed, voila! a leonberger. hopefully the Kennel Club doesn't try and mutate them!

  • I love Leonberger so much I'm getting one soon and I'm naming him Duncan

  • I got one but he doesn't shed alot.

  • Ive read in several books actually that leonbergers were used to also fight off wolves and sometimes kill them many years ago and that leo looks oddly thin my toddles weighs around 9 stone and hes only 18 months old and no they are german bred but i have never in my life seen a leo attack or even want to attack a human without just cause they are more of a laid back dog that would rather lick you do death than anything =] x

  • @ChelseaBraith93 Actually Leos were not bred to fight off wolves. They were bred to look beautiful and like lions. When WW1 came along all the horses were used in the war and so Leos were used to pull things and became a working breed. Now they do search and rescue on land as well as in the water, just as Newfies do because they are excellent and strong swimmers. The Leo in this film is underweight at 120 pounds. Males should be 140 - 160 pounds. Mine is 130 pounds.

  • @UKExile06 Heinrich Essig claimed to have used a St Bernard over a landseer over a Gt Pyrenees in order to create a lion-like dog for his town mascot, when he first registered the name of the dog. However, DNA proof shows that the colour markers for the leonberger could not have been created from this mix. In fact written evidence, paintings and even a statue exists to prove that the dog was around since the 1500s at least.

  • @UKExile06 The modern leonberger, since the war, has had Newfoundland added as there were not enough breeding pairs left in the world to save the breed. However, after 4-5,000 pure-bred crosses since those days, it is safe to assume that it is a pure breed. So they were, like the majority of molosser's, bred for protection, and as an added bonus for pulling carts. The water rescue, including webbed feet, only happened after the Newfoundland component was added.

  • i LOOOOOOOVE! that dog it fit me like a glow in evry possible way...exept i live in a apartment :( :( :(

  • Is the dog from Finland? You know, Mikko is a finnish name =)

  • @kakkanekukkane is a german dog

  • @halacha666 Okay.. Just odd, that it has got a finnish name

  • @teewoods wtf? xD

  • If there is a moment this dog needed to be aggressive tis now.... biting that bitches hand off would be nice

  • Leo on Martha Stewart, the worst thing that could happen for the breed.

  • @Zanfeng Why?

  • @Zanfeng Well he could have ended up at Mike Vick's place.

  • wow, this dog is a berger version of me

    (my names Leon)

  • i love big dogs! i have a Leonberger, he is 31 inches to the shoulder and wieghs 110 lbs! he is one big doggy!

  • @dooggyloover I think your dog is a thinner than normal. Because he should be weighing around 60 kilo's (132 lbs) due his hight. Especially because it's a he..

  • My aunt has been breeding these dogs for years, even when her two children were young. Right now she owns 5 of them and I have never ever once seen a single one of them act aggressively. We go there every year for Christmas with our tiny little dog and they treat her like their baby. Despite their size they really are harmless.

  • I'd love one, it's huge. Be hard if it challenges you for dominance.

  • they seem pretty friendly i think itd be like a big teddy bear :3

  • Martha needs to re-wash and comb her fuckin hair, the dogs on her show are more groomed than her.

  • Hahahaha that made me laugh!

  • We had the sweetest dog ever (not a leonberger), never ever acted aggresive in any way possible. But one day out of the blue when he was 11 years old he bit my dad really bad in the arm. He was heartstruck and no one could really believe what had happened. The reason why he (probably) did this was because he was slowly losing the ability to place his social rank in the family due to aging. He lived on for two years and never acted aggressive again.

  • This won't stop me from getting a Leonberger but it makes me think 'what if' nontheless..

  • I actually come from Leonberg in Germany, home of the Leonbergers :)

  • are there actually a lot there?

  • I just brought my Leo puppy home today. I'm so excited to watch him grow up!

  • he wont go long

I lost my giant when he was 6.

    Cancer.

  • @Rymaggio I had one who turned 11 and died sudden due a hart attack. So don't judge about that 'he won't go long'. Maybe he can surprise you :)

  • The other day A lady in the park had one and said he weighed 170 lbs. He definitely looked bigger than this one and also had longer hair.

  • i wish i had some day mikko the leonberger

  • my leo dog is sooo georgous all of the show ppl love him cos hes soo sweet and beautiful...i dont think that they are unusual there are loads of them about : )

  • this guy in on crystal meth

  • My mom use to bring stray dogs home all the time. I completly fogot until I saw this video when she once brought home a srange looking dog with rope like hair. Can anyone tell me what type of breed this is?

  • It might be either a Puli or a Komondor.

  • It was problably either a Komondor or a Puli... Komondors are usually fairly aggressive, so if that dog was, it was possibly a komondor. :)

  • We hv Loe and mastif of pyrenean and one big dog, heh.

  • I had 3.. 2 died and we got a pup. So now 2 xD. I love them! Totally we have5 dogs (3 died). I grew up with these gentle giants with my first dog at age of 4/5

  • wow five leonbeger, i have just one:D:D butr i love that dog.

  • i have a leonberger and im hoping to get one on march

  • i have 4 toundra , bleu , bonny and baya

  • Great, a leo on Martha Stewart. Gee, I just GOTTA have one! It'll go so well with my leather interior Hummer!

The "it" dog for the decade - breed 'em to meet demand until the hips go. Do they come in "superbig"?

  • Totally agree w/ you. Look what 101 Dalmatians (the movie) did to the poor breed.

  • i have 5 leonbergers. Arabella, Cameo, Dudley, Dalila, and Zoe. :) BEST DOGS EVER!

  • OMGSH a Leonberger! I'm such a fan of them (maybe I have 1 xD, we once had 3)

  • How would a leonburger be as a first dog? Family dog with the youngest at the age of 7. I'm really interested in this breed as they're generally very gentle(From what I've read). A response from some1 with a leonburger would be appreciated :)

  • Yes they are incredibly gentle and patient. I've had Leonbergers since my birth and really, small children tend to pull the tail sometimes or throw toys at them but they will just keep laying down. When you play with them they're really gentle. Best family dog I know.

  • I had never owned a dog, and got a Leo for my first one. Absolutely great family dog. My neices and nephews have learned to walk by pulling themselves up on her. But as with any big dog, training them as a puppy is very, very important. You don't want a 150 lb dog that doesn't listen when they are full grown.

  • i have 5 leonbergers :)

  • i got a sweet leonberger who barks when i scream kitties, she never barks (teached her leonbergers can scare people) but when is say kitties she goes crazy :P

  • i got a sweet leonberger who barks when i scream kitties, she never barks (teached her leonbergers can scare people) but when is say kitties she goes crazy :P

  • i would love a dog with that mix, i love both of the breeds a lot!

  • Had a leonberger for 7 years until she died...sooo sweet though not very clever. my dad taught her to bark into the sky whenever he shouted "Vampires!!!"

  • i LOVE leonbergers!!! my friend has one. <3

  • me too...

  • i grow up with Leonbergers, best dog race in the world... the male was a Champion in Sweden and had many 1-6th places and he was so nice to me since he was so protective to me and my older brother, we were 4 and 10, miss him so much, we also had his daughter in our family and it was so nice to cudle with them in the sofa all nigh long!

  • I own a Leonberger my self, they are the best dog ever.

  • I am planning to get a dog in a few years, and I have decided to get a Leo. I just love them to bits!!!

  • I want one but I wonder if it would be to hot for them here in ALABAMA. I had a great pryennes but he died. He had lots of hair but went swimming in our pond.
