doesnt sound anyting like elliott smith's typical guitar style..would be very surprised if it was him. Also, I don't know why he wouldn't do harmony vox on it.
howd you know elliot smith was on guitar for this? i know elliot smith and mary lou lord were often together but i've seen this song posted before as just mary lou lord.
Why are people deconstructing this song via his guitar playing? You're only exposing yourself as the frat-boy guitarist you are. Its always a conspiracy theory with you assholes. Its him and his guitar playing. He never wanted to appeal to such jocks especially when he was trying to accompany Mary on a really cool recording on a lo-fi comp.
When I heard it, I thought the same thing about it not sounding like him. Although it does seem that you can hear his background vocals layered in as he did on much of his own work. Maybe he just sang backup vocals? I don't know, it's an awesome cover though.
It sounds like a guitar elliott might use but it doesn't sound like his playing. He was alot better than this. Listen to the solo, I know I'm a nerd but he woulda used alot more arpeggios and phrasing. I think it's just her on guitar.
@TuMira85 I completely agree with beesch7. It's not Elliott's guitar playing. Yesyes. Elliott didn't use the word 'better' about his own music because he was humble about it. So what? I definitely think Elliott Smith's guitar playing was much better than this. Stop picking on people for no reason.
@futoncat That just proves what a good studio musician he was; he could play for other people and bring out what they wanted without tipping his hand.
Does anyone know the tabs for this song????
I would be eternally grateful!!!!

@7sshare Id rather hear gene ween sing. His voice is better for this song. But she does an amazing version.

@7sshare you should either be appreciative of this cover for what it is...or you should eat a dick.

@TripleHooper That's from the Ween coloring book drawn by Thea Wolfe. That's Gene Ween pullin' his guts out and it does not suck.

You obviously don't know jack shit about elliott's guitar playing or what he valued in music. He would never use a word like "better"

so did ween actually make this song??
i always thought she made itt..

@vourlok yes It's a Ween song, and as much as this is a pretty decent cover, Ween playing this live blows it out of the water.
