  • Something ironic? A robot made out of iron.

  • @AuRevoirTune No. That's punny.

  • @blabbityblah The irony is that the joke isn't ironic.

  • @AuRevoirTune A palm to the face is what it is. You haven't created irony. You've created a shrodinger's cat.

  • There are a few types of irony. The type Bender described is "Verbal Irony"

  • My English teacher from Freshman year played this clip. :D

  • @Totema1 Best class ever? :D

  • do you guys wanna know something really ironic? dying by geting hit by an ambulance

  • @PrivateRyan1000 Not really, just coincidental, unless the ambulance was coming to save your life.

  • @PrivateRyan1000 That's not irony!

  • @PrivateRyan1000 Almost. It would be really ironic to be hit by the ambulance coming to save your life in response to a prank 911 call.

  • Bender's 40% irony!

  • @CriaSunshine your clever

  • @CriaSunshine ... There is even a episode called the 30% iron Chef -.-

  • @CriaSunshine I love you. I will die or kill others in your honour.

  • @CriaSunshine 30%

  • Irony can also be passive, for example a police officer being caught drunk driving.

  • An example of irony

would for me to say: Im having a fantastic day!

    When i failed rengents.

  • Whoever disagrees with Bender is stupid and need to read a book

  • Comment removed

  • @1XNoScoperX1 first of all: i'm a girl. secondly: i'm hispanic not white. thirdly: if you're so cool mr "nigga" why are you watching a video of bender defining ironi? fouthly: looking at your language makes me realize the need of you reading a book. PEACE!

  • @Lina0David I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused. I have multiple roommates here and every one of them have been known to be complete assholes. I can't seem to find what was said on this account that your referring to. Obviously it wasn't something nice and I apologize for whatever was said; I will put more effort in making sure I'm logged out of all accounts before I leave from now on. Sorry.

  • @1XNoScoperX1 Wtf? you mean somebody else was using your youtube account?

  • @ReplayButtonMolester I guess. I didn't log out here at the dorm. Why, do you know what was said from this account? I would like to know; I can't seem to find it on the comments list for some reason.

  • @1XNoScoperX1 dude i wish i could it but everytime i click on the 'view all comments' link my computer keeps freezing. give me a couple of hours and i will find it.

  • @1XNoScoperX1 dude, why dont you switch your youtube channel back to its old version for a few seconds? the old version has a 'recent activity' section, where you can find comments made from your channel.

  • @1XNoScoperX1 i checked on @Lina0David 's channel and apparently about one day ago she responded to a comment made from somebody using your channel, with the words ''what''. Look at this period of time

  • @1XNoScoperX1 my best bet is that whatever was said from your channel occured between 1 day to a week ago, because there is a big time gap between @Lina0David 's last comment and the next immediate comment.

between these two comments she responded 'what?' to a comment from your channel a day ago, according to her channel, this 'what?' comment seems to have been deleted, and i guess the comment made from your channel was also deleted.

  • @ReplayButtonMolester Yea, comments seem to have been removed. Oh well, I stated my apology; not much more I can do I guess.

  • @1XNoScoperX1 why is everybody stalking my yourtube page? jesus christ!!!!!

it's okay don't worry about it..

  • @Lina0David madam, there is a whole world of difference between stalking and checking some relevant information out. 1XNoScoperX1 merely wanted to know what was said from his account because he claimed somebody else had used it. I voiced my surprise at this and ended up helping him find the comment that was said from his account.

It was just a random help I did because he seemed genuine to me. I am not stalking you in anyway. I apologise if you think otherwise.

  • Irony is how My little pony FIM is one of the best shows for adult men

  • To all the people saying it's sarcasm, while it is how we generally think of sarcasm, it's still technically Irony. I think it's stupid, but there isn't really much we can do about it. What we think of as Irony most of the time is technically called situational irony.

I was taught this in english claass last year. I still think it's stupid though.

  • ... That's sarcasm.

  • @habbototaladdict45 THAT IS IRONY

  • @habbototaladdict45 No it's 'Situational irony'.

  • @MasterSoap96 And metal.

  • Wow you people are fucking morons, it's not the correct definition and anyone who tries to prove me wrong, or right for that matter, is a dumbass who doesn't understand it. That's the joke, Bender is defining Irony, and it's the incorrect definition (and reading from a dictionary to boot). That's the ironic part. Idiots.

  • That sounds more like sarcasm or metaphors...

  • I thought that was called sarcasm =P

  • isn't that sarcasm

  • Now that.. is, Irony!

  • I think it would be ironic if everybody was made of iron.

  • this is why i dropped english -_-

  • irony n, (ironies) - Mildly sarcastic use of words to imply the opposite of what is said; aspect of a situation that is odd or amusing because the opposite of what one would expect...

to thouse who says bender is wrong, irony means 2 things...the first definition which I stated is what bender is refering to...the second is the one that everyone else is saying the correct definition is...words can and often mean more than one thing and changes definition with context

    now THATS irony...

  • *reads through comments*

I cant brain today anymore....my dumb has the brain...

  • My brain hurts

  • This is from that episode where Fry got the ROBOT DEVIL's hands...

    Am I right?

  • @AmricanGir Yes...

  • Irony is a thing that happened that is in reverse of what was supposed to happen.

  • @1tobedoneX it's also applyable on language use. When you say the opposite of what you really meant to say in such a tone that the real meaning becomes obvious. The thing everyone keeps calling sarcasm. Though sarcasm is almost the same but with a negative intent, meant to mock or fool someone. Also in a general way Bender is right =D

  • i have this stuck in my head now

  • Comment removed

  • Many experts consider dramatic or cosmic irony to not be irony at all, rather they consider it coincidence (as bender is seen remarking to previous instances in the episode). The Robot Devil uses verbal irony to intentionally deceive both Leela and the audience into thinking he wanted one of her hands in exchange for robot ears, when in truth he wanted to marry her (her hand in marriage (ironic)).

A metaphor would be a comparison, which this is not. Sarcasm implies insult, which there is not.

  • I thought it said bender defines "BRONY"

  • @Drinkgirl2 lmao

  • I once saw a Fire Truck ablaze. I said that was ironic. My friend said it wasn't irony, it was a coincidence. So I slapped him once across the face, and again with a dictionary when we got home.

  • you win the lottery, then die the next day. NOW THATS IRONY

  • the use of words expressing something other than the literal intention! Now that, is, irony!

.......You got beat up in school alot, didn't you?

    Yes....

  • Thats not ironic, thats just coincidental

  • @LiLNetworker wrong, in literature that is the exact definition of irony... i refer you to a dictionary moron

  • @sauron2221 I refer you to this episode, moron.

  • If only Alanis Morissette knew this as well as Bender.

  • Bender defines "IRON-y" ohh, i see what you did there...

  • Funny Dog and Badass Robot have same voice actor. Now thats is irony!

  • THE USE OF WORDS TO MAKE A PERSON MAD FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT. NOW THAT IS TROLLING!

  • come on make it just another few likes to make this vid 1337 leet.

  • i was in english class and my teacher ask someone to define irony and i remered this video and recited this and i got a homework pass lol

  • I will now use this song to help me remember what Irony means.

  • Oh COME ON! How did THAT make it into the top comments? I was kinda tired when I wrote that :)

  • Iron? More like my ass.

  • What's really ironic is that he's definition of "irony" was actually the definition of sarcasm... NOW THAT, IS, IRONY!

  • @XXGDUBSXX Which is also a type of irony.

  • @031000ron1 How ironic

  • @caqtv Quite.

  • @XXGDUBSXX What's super ironic is that he ISN'T defining sarcasm. He's defining verbal irony.

  • Here is 3 ways to interpret this, for those of you who don't get it:

1.) Bender is a super computer with access to the internet, why does he need a book?

2.) Why are there dictionarys, I though this was THE WORLD OF TOMORROW!!!

3.) Or, the most populaur way, He says "The use of words for something other than their literal intention! (Metaphor) Now, THAT is IRONY!" By defining metaphore, and saying irony, that becomes ironic, because he defines metaphore, but puts irony at the end.

  • @031000ron1 who cares... lol

  • @xx251110xx I do, as well as 304,001 people...

  • @031000ron1 i only care that it's a good laugh... i don't care about it being technical.

  • @031000ron1 it IS irony

  • @IMmephiles I looked it up, you ARE right, butn I was reffering to another irony (Out of the five); "an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected."

  • @031000ron1 there are a shit load of definitions, but ill just remember bender's

  • @IMmephiles Got it.

  • @031000ron1 That is not the definition of a metaphor you moron

  • @sauron2221 I made a mistake. Look at the top comment, correct him too.

  • To all the people saying that isn't irony, you realise they just read out the definition from Webster's dictionary? This some bogus definition they made up...

  • why yes...yes is it

  • and the ironic part here is? THAT'S THE DEFINITION OF METAPHOR!!!!!!!!

everytime Bender corrects someone on irony in this episode, BENDER is wrong.

  • @mkreps1 now that is irony!

  • @mkreps1 you are a moron... the use of words expressing something other than the literal intention is the definition of Irony in literature... a metaphor is the use of an image, story, or tangible thing to represent a less tangible thing... look it up before you post something and look like a moron

  • @sauron2221 you're both right. There is actually 4-5 different Irony definitions. Situational Irony, dramatic irony, cosmic irony, etc etc. Look them up.

  • @mkreps1 That was the joke.

  • @mkreps1 a metaphor is a comparison, irony is usually just a statement. Bender is right, though a bit simplistic

  • @mkreps1 Buy a dictionary, he is almost spot on with Irony's definition.

  • @mkreps1 How ironic.

  • @mkreps1 you're wrong. Now THAT IS IRONY.

  • @mkreps1 No, Bender's right. The key word here is "intention". Irony is concerned with pragmatic intention, while metaphor is concerned with semantics.

  • @UltraMegaSuperPhil i didn't understand what you just said, but that guy got owned.

  • @mkreps1 Ironic isn't it?

  • @mkreps1 quite ironic that thus, he expresses something else than what he intended to.

  • @mkreps1

If you want, you could replace "something other" with "the opposite" to be clearer, but I wouldn't say it's wrong. That's just how you're interpreting it. Anyways, there are many definitions for words as elusive as "irony," but this is the classic definition.

  • @mkreps1 Well, he quoted the dictionary definition of irony. A metaphor does not necessarily convey the OPPOSITE of the literal intention of a phrase.

  • That's definitely some useful info!

  • just what i needed for my homework

  • My mom thinks I use the word in the wrong context so I'll swear by bender for now on!

  • LOL, I'm gonna sing this when my English teacher asks my to define "irony"!

  • Irony? It's like bronzy and goldy, but made of iron.

  • Someone make a typography!

  • Whenever somebody misuses this word, I will post two videos.

First, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means" from Princess Bride.

    Then this one.

  • Bwahahahaha.

  • Part of the irony is that he's reading the definition of "Sarcasm"

  • An intelligent robot checking the dictionary is also an irony

  • For the full musical: /watch?v=7s1MAjmIFrQ&list=FLpXVSOe0Wzj378DUKubdulw&index=3&feature=plpp_video

  • Now that IS IRONYYY!

  • This is my ringtone... Yeah im not sure why...

  • BENDER IS A HIPSTER

  • This is actually from season 4, episode 18.

  • @dyne313 Ironic.

  • I'm so depressed that I don't get it, video maker dude said it's in the way he sings intention, but nah, don't get it

  • @Danisfail i dont get it either. however, he is 40% IRON-y.... maybe?

  • @LOGIC42369

That's not irony, irony is when something happens which opposes what was intended,

  • @Danisfail correct, it was just something random i noticed lol... i still dont get it. there was obviously something that happened before bender sings and that would probly give it away

  • @LOGIC42369

    t'was what i was thinking

  • Bender should record an EP..

  • A bunch of adult males watching silly pony videos- now that IS irony
