@Marcus31699 Honestly? Did you not know that Eiji Tsubaraya was part of the original team making Godzilla movies so he could use the costumes? Ultraman is not a rip off from Godzilla. If it is a rip off of anything it's a rip off of Starman from the '50s, 'cause that was the original Giant Superhero series, at least in Japan. The only reason Ultraman used parts from Godzilla costumes is because the original show had a limited budget and it was the best course of action. Actually watch Ultraman.

It's like, it's bad enough they have to make like 25 times the effects of a film, but they don't even get a normal budget, they get a TV budget... from the 1960's... for 50-something episodes of monsters.

Talk about getting jipped. But you know what peeves me off? They still do it. To this day TV shows get bunk for budgets, even when they have far more to film. It's nonsense.

@johnarcheus They call him Red King because the original name of the series was going to be Redman (pretty dumb, right?) and originally, Red King was going to be Redman's most powerful adversary and I think they were going to end the series with him. But then, the creators saw the awfulness in their name and scrapped it, but they still kept Red King's name. Then, they decided to put him in Ultraman (which sounds much better, doesn't it?)

Actually, that roar belonged to varan and baragon. Gorosaurus only had that roar for a few seconds in Destroy all monsters because he replaced baragons big scene. Neronga also roars like that.

I didn't know about the toy.

The Aboras costume was definitely a redress of the RedKing costume. They just cut the head off mid neck and gave it a huge head. The hands were replaced with oversized ones.

However, in the sequel series, these were two seperate costumes and changes were made to make them more individual.

I think the real world reason his name does not match his description is because the special effects scenes were shot separately from the rest of the show. Time constraints sometimes created discrepancies between the writers and the art department . That is why the actors sometimes refer to a returning monster by the wrong name. Some ppl think that this is a dubbing mistake, but the Japan version has the same goofs.

Tsuburaya Productions was the only other studio besides Disney, that had an optical printer for their FX. It hurt them financially for a while, but Ultraman and the Ultra-Family more than put them in the black when they rolled onto the scene.
