im not saying everyone who does this style is like that, there are some really good ones who make interesting songs. but i find most arent.

bet he hasn't come up with much else to do with this style, thats the crap end of it, it's impressive and makes you look cool, but you just can't be unique with it. just about every song in this style is going to sound the same, he's good, but this improv doesn't make him good, it's his technique which makes him interesting, he could probably play any style. but he'll get nowhere musically with this.

@oOqIpOo No you are not - all these guys sound the same. The guitar is tuned way down til it takes virtually no strength to fret it, and tuned to an open chord, which sets the key of the piece. If you plot a fretboard diagram of the key and start tapping away on it, this sort of music just pours out of it. Just add a cosmic slightly disinterested expression, and you're in the club. Whack the guitar now and then for enthusiastic applause from the musically illiterate.

@willmottpa its hard to play but the composition is lacking imo - andy mckee has much better song writing and smooth playing - plus its centered around one riff the entire time - not much variety - despite anyone being better or worse than him - that doesnt matter - from a strictly musical standpoint the composition is lacking. but yes hes good and it sounds pretty good. i couldnt play his song - i dont play acoustic but he couldnt play mine either.

The kid is good, but it's been done before many many times before. If you want to see one of the masters of this technique, check out Preston Reed. He was one of the first that I've seen do this. One thing I find is that after a while it gets a little boring. But the bottom line is, all of the players playing this style blow my mind. I sure as heck can't play like that!
