You're darn right Cenk. I feel the same way about this health care bill. We're just funding the health insurance companies and that's where the problem is to begin with. Bush bailed out airlines that were already failing, Obama bailed out banks and is not bolstering insurance companies and they have felt pain in a gazillion years.
The GOP can complain all they want, but this HC bill will have a strong hold on US voters under the age of 28. This is a very important demographic because this is the demographic that spends the most money. Because they can now have their parents' insurance while going to college, I think they will try to protect this law with their votes.
However, young voters will need to turn out in better numbers for state and local elections if they intend for this law to improve.

For instance, the approval rating for this bill was 41%, while the disapproval rating was 50%. I am trying to teach my children that elected officials are there to represent the people, but this vote has shown they are only there for their own self interests. I know that in Novemeber many of the congressmen and women are going to learn the hard way.

@DetroitGOP Either way you and I are going to pay for the uninsured unless we enact a law that says if you have no insurance you can not get treatment unless you can prove you can pay for it which would just be inhumane. At least with the current law it provides incentives for people to get insurance and provide help for those who need it. This will decrease the amount of money we would have to pay versus the old system.

@CommandoDude My only concern with the healthcare bill was getting as many people as covered as possible. I would have been satisfied if I got absolutely nothing as someone with insurance already. While this bill is a step in the right direction I feel the uninsured still are going to have a tough time. Hopefully they will have a separate bill to start some kind of public option though I would prefer single payer.

The GOP can complain all they want, but this HC bill will have a strong hold on US voters under the age of 28. This is a very important demographic because this is the demographic that spends the most money. Because they can now have their parents' insurance while going to college, I think they will try to protect this law with their votes.
However, young voters will need to turn out in better numbers for state and local elections if they intend for this law to improve.

But I sure as heck am not paying for others to get health care insurance. Its not the governments job to a) force health care insurance on me or any other american that chose not to have it b) "by the people and for the people" is a two way street.... the people did not want this and they chose to ignore what we want... thats not for the people.

Its rather simple... it just boils down to the government wanting to hold more control... the states should have more control over their states than the feds do. Sure insurance is getting expensive but their is better ways to deal with that.This just increases are deficit and puts the burden on me, you, and all americans by paying more in taxes which we currently pay too much. I live in Mass. i know what this program is like.

Serious Question: Obama last week made a deal for votes with Representative Gutierrez to make immigration reform an "initiative" of this administration. They will be looking for a pathway to allow illegal immigrants citizenship in the country. The last number were roughly 12 million illegals. If these illegals are allowed to become citizens,will they be allowed coverage under this healthcare plan? and how will this skew the CBO numbers that came out last week.

who's saying there has to be a hero or nemesis, I just think the manner and circumstances to which this bill was approved are shady at best. For instance, the approval rating for this bill was 41%, while the disapproval rating was 50%. I am trying to teach my children that elected officials are there to represent the people, but this vote has shown they are only there for their own self interests. I know that in Novemeber many of the congressmen and women are going to learn the hard way.

The thing I part company with is the ol' "misrepresentation" thing. 41% of some 300 million Americans is not a small amount. It's not a majority, granted, and I can accept that majority rules in most cases, but here's roughly 123 million of us who are represented according to those numbers.
So in a parallel vein, "The American people dont want this bill," as its been said often, and as an all-inclusive statement, is simply wrong.

@DetroitGOP Either way you and I are going to pay for the uninsured unless we enact a law that says if you have no insurance you can not get treatment unless you can prove you can pay for it which would just be inhumane. At least with the current law it provides incentives for people to get insurance and provide help for those who need it. This will decrease the amount of money we would have to pay versus the old system.

@CommandoDude My only concern with the healthcare bill was getting as many people as covered as possible. I would have been satisfied if I got absolutely nothing as someone with insurance already. While this bill is a step in the right direction I feel the uninsured still are going to have a tough time. Hopefully they will have a separate bill to start some kind of public option though I would prefer single payer.
