  • Beautiful Track on a SUPER LP RECORDING!!

  • ella tiene canciones maravillosas y desconocidas

  • To mention again, when I seen this original play, I actually got goose bumps from the music. No other play since has had that affect on me, even very good Broadway plays I saw.

  • I saw the original play on Broadway in 1970 and to this day, I love all the music. I have ordered the tapes, CD's for the original play- - -there is no comparison!!

  • niemand anders mag dit lied zingen... Yvonne Elliman rules!!!

Nobody else should sing this song!!!

  • I WANT A DEPECHE MODE VERSION OF THIS!!!

  • @ROCKADULTOX - It's called "Damaged People" on the "Playing the Angel" album :)

  • In JCSS the religion is music and not even a soul can proclaim itself Atheist with a goddess like Yvonne.

  • "... I never thought I´ve come to this, too!"

One of the most beautiful song of all times!

  • Just like to mention that listening to her sing on 461 Ocean Boulevard in August 1974 changed my life. Terribly underrated singer. Check out others trying to do this number as well as she does. Only Agnetha, lead singer for ABBA, has the chops to compete with her.

  • I agree

  • Brings chills down your spine. What a voice, I saw the show in the 70's and was memorized by it then and hearing it again is such a treat, Thank you for posting it.

  • This is just beautiful. I don't know what else to say.

  • 2 dislikes? they must be atheists or crackheads.

  • @hotathlete2 Well I happen to like this and am Atheist. Also, lets not judge others devotion to a religious ideal; Judge not lest ye be judged.

  • @csolti your an atheist and u like this? very cool.

  • @1971Goodguy 1870 you say? It's lasted well!

  • i hate all the comments that start with "Im 16 and.." but ha, I'm a 17 year old guy very into rock music, this is my favourite song. 7 times out of 10, I'll cry.

  • ones that are half way in their faith, or have belief in their savior but sometimes fall short, should for sure be clarified after a dose of this wholesome expression from Yvonne Elliman. She conveys it well for Christ.

  • I can remember a long hot summer of 1972 listening to this album for an entire afternoon - in the cool dark basement at my friends house - and I agree with other posters that this rendition has never been bested - it is the definative version of this song and the entire opera for that matter.

  • This original version of JCS is the best ever. Anyone into this must get it.

  • Del musical JESUS CHRIST SUPER STAR, con esta hermosisima filipina. YVONNE ELLIMAN. NO SE COMO AMARLO.

  • wow

  • many MANY christians overlook or scoff at this musical but then many christians want to deny a major tenet of Christiananity that Christ was 100% divine and 100% human

this muical shows the fully human side of Christ

  • Just got the movie, after all these years, but recorded original 2 vinyl release of broadway for my computer. Thanks for upload.

  • I'm 44 and have listened to and loved this since my father brought home that big gorgeous brown double album....with a lyric book!! OH man, I loved that record. And over the years from being six years old to sixteen to twenty six to forty. You just keep understanding more nuances and subtler aspects of the story.

  • @zaftra like I said in the first comment "the good book fairytale

    I stand unchallenged here

  • AH the good book fairy tale goes Broadway

unbelievable to think that in this day and age we (some) actually still believe in this stuff lol

    great tune BTW!

  • @ishredu anything that reanimates after death has got to be a zombie

    yeah I'd be scared

  • @ishredu possibly because for 200 hundred years people much more intelligent than you, scholars and archeologist have tried to lay waste to the Biblical claims, not only have they failed but (to all but the extremist), have reluctantly have to confirm the life of Christ was, in fact, a reality and not the fairy tale you claim.

Has regarding the the Resurrection not being unique, no other religion had it's founder executed and nobody able to come up with a body.

  • @zaftra RESURRECTION=ZOMBIE.

so I take it you DON'T believe dinosaurs were here?

    darwin? look em up.

  • @zaftra What if archaeologists come up with Jesus's bones? Then what? And what are you talking about concerning "lay[ing] waste" to Biblical claims? Most of what's in the Bible has NOT been PROVEN from an archaeological view (except perhaps to followers of the Naked Archaeologist).

  • @BadRaspberriesFinger They won't, that must be one of the most foolish things I have read. It's been tried before, didn't they find his ossary a few years back? A lot of what appears in the Bible HAS been corroborated by archaeologists. You keep accepting all the negatives and dismissing any positives that do not agree with your beliefs.

  • Just one of many great songs on this album; Everything's Alright, Hosanna, and of course J/C Superstar. Just too bad the producers and director of the movie decided to leave out the most significant part of Jesus' contribution to mankind: The Ressurection. The one event that separates Christianity from all other religions, the single most significant part of the Christian religion was omitted. A pale comparison would be all the hype and build-up to the Super Bowl and then dont play the game

  • @williamroddy , I would agree that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most key element of Christianity, but it's not accurate to say that the resurrection separates Christianity from all other religions. In fact, resurrections were a common theme in a number of ancient religions, including Greek, which predates Christianity by some 1600 years. Also, in ancient Egyptian religion, dating back 2500 years before Christianity, the god Osiris was resurrected. These are only a couple examples.

  • @rachelazw not to you personally rachel just joining in The resurrection not the key element to Jesus Christ's Life and Teachings it is the result of the demonstration of the following Mercy, Unconditional Love, Did Jesus walk around three years talking to brick walls; to the air only, were there truly no ears to hear then; or now? Jesus' Life how to 'be' in this world, most of all how to love, to be unafraid infaith, how to forgive. GOD forgives us all therefore, how can we do less?

  • @williamroddy , and besides ancient religion, resurrection is also a theme in some contemporary belief systems, such as Zen Buddhism.

  • They hit me hard with this propaganda, still love it. Listenede for hours in my Mama's headphones. born in 1965 understand

  • thank you thank you thank you for posting this!! GOD BLESS YOU!

  • Amazing voice...Thank you.

  • Heartbreaking.

  • I sang this @ the JCS play in high school at St. Joseph"s School, MANILA PHILIPPINES <3

  • This performance is highly superior to that of the soundtrack, alghough both are sung by Ivonne Elliman.

  • I love how she is so in love with Jesus. Trying to figure out how to love him sans conventional sexuality confounds her and stops her in her tracks. Nobody does it better than Yvonne. Bravo!

  • Yvonne Elliman is one of the most criminally under-rated female vocalists of all time. Sure, she's had some success, but listen to the range she displays so effortlessly, and the boot-to-the-head emotion she brings to this song. She takes whatever lyrics are given her and glorifies them beyond imagining.

  • @DarkkOrbit "Criminally under-rated" ... excellent description.

  • Una cancion muy bonita!!!!!!!!

  • I grew up and was raised a catholic - born late '60's. Absolutely loved this song when released on radio but was a tad too young to appreciate the full musical/cinematic release.

Even though i am now a devout atheist, i still love this song, its story and journey.

  • @kemwhareaitu

Your not the lone ranger on recovering Catholics who many are oblivious of how the Catholic Church has butchered the word of God as written. He gave the location of his Church. "Where two or more shall gather in My name, I shall be there amongst them". The red words in the New Testament are the Living word of God. They take about 3 hours to read and they read like a courtroom transcript identifying "by who's authority". Don't have them read to you, read them for yourself.

  • This is the ONE!

  • i was only 10 years old when this was released. I have seen and heard many productions of Jesus Christ superstar since then. Yvonne IS Mary Magdalene. Hands down. No questions asked. The end.

  • @JAMESTOWNECHEF I agree, I have seen other versions and she rocks! Her presence gives new meaning to the word, "irreplacable."

  • @JAMESTOWNECHEF Read your Bible and according to it the same class of people that were in charge of the church and the government then are in charge today. These spawn are the same ZioNazis who killed Jesus. If Jesus was born again and died in our lifetime nobody would know the difference above the roar of the war profiteers and moneychangers. Do you really think Rupert Murdock amd Mort Zuckerman would give you the correct time of day? Not....

  • @wiscokiddd

oh my goodness! i was talking about Yvonne Ellimanns artistic capablities!!!!!!! Get off your soapbox please!!!

  • @JAMESTOWNECHEF Same here...actually recieved extra credit for my religion class....saw this show at what was then known as the Universal Amphitheatre at Universal studios Hollywood....bought the album and got 2 tickets to the show...$25 from Arco gas station...

  • @JAMESTOWNECHEF Yes, I agree. I had this version (English cast album) before I saw the Broadway touring company. Even though Merideth Macrae was incredibly good, Yvonne way still the only Mary Magdalene for me!

  • i like the film version she sings. but i prefer the 'music' here. having said this, Yvonne is the best voice for this song, she brings something to it. magical.

  • It is extremely gay, even for a musical. I want to hear a suitable man singing it.

  • @newmark401 Huh????

  • trying to figure out if Jesus Christ Superstar or Tommy is her favorite rock opera...

  • this is HER song! the original still holds up against all the other versions! simply perfect first time round!

  • Find the original recording of this song, including the terrific introduction, a reprise of "Everything's Alright," where the bouncy 5/4 meter of that song effects a a wonderful transition into the slow 4/4 of this tune. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote good songs, but his real genius was arranging those songs for maximum effect.

  • Me encanta cancion mucho! Muchas Gracias.

  • Yvonne's vocal in the recorded version is sublime. In the live show the production became much bigger and more powerful - one of best stage songs ever.

  • @gainsbourg66

About Christmastime 1971, I saw a traveling version of the show starring Edie Taylor as Mary. She tried to rock out with this love song and it just didn't work at all. This remains, for reasons of it's sublimity, my alltime favorite of all the versions. And yes, this is, and should always be a "showstopper".

  • In the live version I saw (early 70's London) the music gradually built up during the orchestral section (mid song) to a huge climax - the singer having turned her back and walked away during this bit, only to turn and sing "I never thought I'd come to this!"....very powerful.

  • omg

  • guao indeed, Beautiful.

  • Most beautiful rendition. Thank you!!

  • perfection...

  • The projection, the timbre, the falsetto, it's all just too perfect.

    Bravo!!

  • This is the most hauntingly beautiful of all the versions and covers of this showstopper.

    Thank you.

If one were to encounter, face to face, the incarnate God for the first time, I believe everyone would experience Mary's, an obvious "sinner, confusion, and yet love.

  • I agree. Her voice takes on an almost childlike quality @ 1:30

  • I don't believe in the Trinity as it is not found in the Bible but if I encountered Jesus Christ, knowing that he is the "only begotten" Son of God and the prophesied Messiah I would, I think, be too overwhelmed to even begin to think of how to love him lol. Jesus was perfect as a man and no doubt he was exemplary in his love and we know he was very wonderful with his words so loving him would never not be an option. Just reading about him in the scriptures moves me to tears of love for him.

  • @valaurwen

the word 'bible' is not in the 'bible' either. however, while the trinity is not 'explicit' in scripture it is definitely 'implied' it is 'implicit'

  • @babystinky

The word "Bible" is simply a term for what the collection of books is considered lol. The Trinity is not directly implied anywhere in the scriptures. Actually Jesus Christ himself directly implies the complete opposite f the Trinity. Jesus constantly says that he is less than God and that he is NOT God. He says that only God is good and that he is not good. He also says that he does the will of God, the Father, and not his own will. Read the bible and you will see for yourself.

  • @valaurwen

Prophecy was fulfilled when Through Him, With Him, In Him by the Unity of His Holy Spirit all Glory and Honor became His Forever and Ever. He addressed the question repeatedly and when poor Philip asked it again I sense His patience had grown thin. "Have you not known Me Philip" these words I speak are not of My own authority but that of the Father who is greater then I. I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. He leaves, but with the promise to send His Holy Spirit.

  • @scubawrestler I'm quite sure we'll never find out.

  • @scubawrestler This is not a cover elliman performed this on broadway and reprised her role in the 1973 film. Helen Reddy´s version is a cover. Any versin sung by Elliman is an original. By anyone else they are covers.

  • @brantregare Yes.I know that :) I still have the original albums they both came on. This is from the original symphonic recording made two years before the Tom O'Horgan Broadway production, and 5 years before the movie. Helen Reddy's cover was, however the more popular radio version in 1970, my Senior year in high school. One of the girls I knew gave me the 45 of it. I guess she was trying to tell me something ;-)

  • @scubawrestler I agree wholeheartedly on all you pointed out. MY FAV version too and yes about meeting Jesus-I mean-what's not to fall in love with? yet divinely scary at the same time-She captures this bar none- par excellence no-one has sung it better...

  • @2patrock Exactly. This version had "HIT" written all over it, from message to music, to method.

  • Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

    This IS the original.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

  • guao. Me encanta esta cancion ... tal vez en ingles mas que castellano

  • Thank you!
