  • Oh, poor darling! She was born inside her grave and shroud! Why, she would ask the world! But no one answers her lonely voice. Why, she asks, is her beautiful innocence invisible in this world! Does beauty not tolerate beauty?

  • For her, life is cruel. As all else slumbers deeply, she weeps her final farewell with no one saying goodbye to her. Her last gift for the world is the red petal she drops, but unmercifully, the wind will sweep it away where it will rot or dry to a dust. But all the leaves that the poplar and maple leave behind make the last autumn scenery for others to see. The poor rose is forgotten.

  • All the adventures and wildness that the rose had longed for and dreamed about but have never been accomplished fill the heart of her, and she dearly wishes to at least live forever just to dream it on for all of eternity. But she cannot do so. In addition to being man’s servant, she is a miserable slave to her own dreams that mock her weakness. As queen of youth and love on the earth cannot make her dreams come true as she had helped others. Every song and whisper is her dirge.

  • Forever the roses would submit to the humans as servants of fragrance and beauty, but each of them have their own mortality as well. When they die, are "servants" buried and wept over as how humans have funerals? When a rose has lost its life, will humans swear to find its broken wind-swept petals, and heave a sigh? The rose is the symbol of love, but does it wilt and pine for it as well? The snow does bury the rose beautifully, but does it rest in peace? Will its vanity mean nothing but death?

  • Perhaps roses last so short a time due to their immense emotions racking their hearts with no passage in which to communicate... if the rose has any last words to speak before her death in the snow, how will she say them all? Who will listen and sympathize with her? Will roses thrive winter days if they had a human partner to live and love with them, and give their hearts for them? Can their scents grow more sweet because someone is appreciating them? Does spring matter if it's bare and cold?

  • I wonder: is it better to be human or a rose? a human experiences pain and loss and the spiteful traits of man, but a rose will stand faithfully on her spot of ground and welcome the four seasons in her arms, embracing a year's joy(and sorrow maybe without complaining) in rain and shine. Can anyone not love this rose? Will this delicate blossom shed tears she is not loved? Does she long for affection as we humans do? If she cries out for love, can anyone hear? Does her pain cause her to age?

  • This song reminds me of summer actually, where a sweet rose is maturing and growing, dreaming amongst little quaint shadows of trees and shimmering light of peace-filled days! I want to be that rose; maybe life will be a wee bit lonely, but I have the idle moon to keep me company at night, and the bees to converse with during high noon. I will drink the smells of leaves, grass, and sun, and smile that I love life! I may die in the winter, but the fact that I lived once is good enough for me!
