The smaller tessens, actually had blades and were carried by women disguised in a "Geisha" like fashion. Not all fans were large and unbladed. There are many different styles and types of fans, with varying uses as well.

Completely inaccurate to what Tessenjutsu really is. Tessen were fans carried by warriors in feudal japan. They had no blades. They were usually larger, and were sometimes used to block arrows, as a Club, to cool off a warrior, or to signal other people.
