Put all in heavy bottom skillet (cast iron is best) &mix w/fork until finely broken up. Bring to boil, reduce to simmer, uncovered, till juicy, but not too dry. They are close, but nothing beats the original!
I grew up in Winchester IN and have family in Greenville. We would travel the 30 miles just to eat Maid-Rites. It is one of those sandwiches that is a signature of the town and propriatary to the one and only Maid-Rite shop. When I moved from Indiana to Florida, I had Maid-Rites for my last meal at home before heading to the airport because I knew I wouldn't be able to get the original any place else.
It may not be a food for everybody, but you can't really compare it to a pizza or hot dog.
I grew up in Greenville and like maid rites but Jims spanish hot dogs with onion are the best in the world. I have traveled many place and now live in Ocala, Florida. Does anyone remember Drummer Boy chicken with the onion and tomato sauce?
I live in Englewood and my wife works as a teacher in New Madison. I always make sure to send her into town to get a bag or two at least once a month. We always get chesse, her no pickles. I can eat 5 at a time, no problem! I so love that place!

1T. soy sce.
1can coca-cola
1med. onion, pureed (or minced finely)
