Its alright. She sounds like Emmy but with better technique, which is not necessarily a good thing. For me, this voice is still too soft, too small and not operatic (and with that I do not mean she has to sound like Carlotta...). But she is has a good, little clean voice.

The problem for Emmy is that she isn't a professional singer, I believe. She only got singing lessons for the role of the movie. Considering that, I thought she didn't do so badly.

I didn't lie, or meant to anyway... I don't know much more about her beside the fact she's an actress. Nor am I particularly interested in all the details of the life of a stranger. Anyway, being trained while little is still different from being professional. For instance, I could speak German as a kid seeing as I went to Germany and Austria a lot and watched German tv, now I can't.

you're both right. she was trained in opera as a child, but the voice doesn't even fully mature until around age 30, so that training is only so good to her now. though i doubt that she had no training since then, what with her musical career, and a few other movies where she had to sing, and just having an interest in keeping her voice from getting rusty.

Renata's voice is, in my opinion, a more trained and more powerful voice than Emmy's voice. She skillfully nails the cadenza and has a much fuller high B flat than Emmy does. Even though it is more skilled, it does still retain the sweet and pure quality of Emmy's voice.

As a friend of one of her students, once Renata invited me to sit with her on the hedge of a sun-bed on the beach of a beautiful location of the Costiera Amalfitana. I remember she greeted me in a very funny way: 'Welcome to my suite', she said. Then she entertained us by telling funny stories about theatre and famous Italian actors, mixing Roman and Neapolitan dialects to a perfect Italian diction. It was one of the funniest moments ever!!!

She's simply a great actress and a wonderful woman!

I agree that Renata has a better voice than Emmy does. Renata's sounds fuller and stronger while still retaining a sweet, pure quality. Emmy's is sometimes a bit hollow and drowned out by the orchestra.

However, some of the comments here saying Emmy has a bad voice and such are going too far. I think Emmy has a good voice and is already far better than many popular singers today. There are those like Renata who are better than her, but that just means she's not up to their level yet.

OK, this chick is phantastic! And about the whole Emmy thing...TECHNICALLY she was a very good choice for the part of Christine. The character alone is actually sixteen, and Emmy was sixteen for most of the filming. When thinking just about the CHARACTER, her voice is supposed to be very good but not perfect. Christine is still learning. So, while there are probably many other women who could have done it, Emmy was a good choice. And, I mean, she's not ABSOLUTELY terrible...

But that's just me.
