I'm sure that people have asked you this, but when you mentioned you wanted the most authentic experience with sound and video in games, how come you didn't put your SC-88 in SC-55 mode? I'm pretty sure that SQ5 was done using an SC-55 as the SC-88 didn't come out a year after SQ5 was released.
whenever I hear the sierra fanfare I get a instant feeling of nostalgia. So many memories. I remember playing this game alot but finished it only one or two times. I think there were parts that got me frustrated and make me stop playing.
Which MIDI to USB cable did you used to connect your SC-88?
I really want to know because I'm saving up for a SC-88 and looking on Amazon, the MIDI to USB cable that has the most positive reviews is like 40 bucks while the cheaper ones have like one most helpful 2 or 1 star review taking about issues.
The sierra fanfare almost sounds like how I heard the games music using the General MIDI mode with the Yammah softsync (From a quick hearing, the sounds made when the logo shows off 2 shine animations at the end sound slightly different then on your real Roland Sound Canvas)
@tomvalusek Yep, I know. The software synth is a variation on the Roland Virtual Sound Canvas, though it's *much* lower quality than a real Sound Canvas.
"great achievements as a military leader and matchless diplomatic skills"? i would not use any of those words to describe roger wilco. i would however call him "that guy over there licking the pavement"
Wow. I have very vague memories of this game from when I was very young. I remember hardly understanding what was going on before Roger died. I also remember constantly looking for the CD for this game, thinking I found it, but then getting disappointed when it was actually SP4. I'm not sure what happened to my dad's copy of this game.
HAHA I was laughing so hard at this lol from the totally not the star trek theme at the beginning to the re-wording of star trek terms (like "prime directive" to "supreme guideline")
Space Quest V is my favourite game in the series. A lot of the visual designs and jokes seem to be inspired by Star Trek: The Next Generation.
I laughed when he said he spends long moments considering the implications of opening a textbook. I'm supposed to be working on my master's thesis, but I'm watching YouTube videos instead. Roger and I have a lot in common.

wocko1 1 week ago in playlist Let's Play Space Quest 5: The Next Mutation (SC-88)
@wocko1 Because I prefer the way this sounds, and it's not enough of a difference to really invalidate the authenticity argument.

@Dilandau3000 Ahh, fair enough. I guess I'm just a bit fussy with that stuff, having everything absolutely spot-on. :D

But it is still one of the best SQs.

You know, I think of Quirk as having a more pompous type of voice, despite the obvious riff on Kirk.

Why does he look exactly like the captain from Zero Wing?

Star Trek theme in the intro.

This is the only Space Quest to use the Sierra fanfare. Ironic!

The William Shatner impression was a welcome touch.

BTW, Windows 7's software synth uses sounds from SC88 for MIDI playback :)

@incrediblehulk180 The pavement, the walls, the ceiling (somehow) and pretty much everything both in and out of sight.

Seems like Roger remembers things more clearly than his son had intended.
