WOW! it is not actually going to look like that. It is just the developer's preview. It is using the touch screen version of the start menu because they have not come up with one yet.. Once the beta comes out (March) it will look completely different. It does have a desktop that you can go through on the touch screen menu.....

@0902studios Looking at this video I agree. Frankly they could, and should have changed windows significantly more. But I don't think it's anywhere near the final product (thank god). However Microsoft should really take great care in making sure this isn't what Windows 8 is like. The whole start bar and UI needs a change for one. Come to think of it they need to go back to their design roots and make something along the lines of XP and Windows 98. Vista and onwards has sucked.

They decided for Windows 8 to make use of the system entirely and that is why it looks nicer. The performance shouldn't be lost at all.

The point is to make something that contains options and functionality for advanced users, whilst remaining accessible to novice users, and novice users make up the vast majority, and novice users like things to be pretty. You can turn off all these visual styles, go back to the windows 1995 ui if you want, so dont complain, besides you want performance, get the most out of your own system, MS just have to make sure you can.

@TheKnightSolaris im running a phenom quad core, 2.6GHz (cant remember what cache), 4GB RAM, with an nvidia geforce, approx. 2GB. I dont knock any of the visual effects down, the OS only gave me a 5.9 rating, and i dont have any issues at all with speed, maybe somethings up with your rig man, or your talking shit to try and prove a point
