The inspirational stuff has to be dug for. I find one video every so often, referred to me by somebody or just by happenstance. But I always favourite the best ones.
I've not really been on YT for the last 2 years, and all the videos I made in the 2 years before that have been taken down (by me), so the changes to the site were as much of a surprise to me as to you. I remember in one of your *really* early videos (when YouTube was so young the fact that it was growing faster than MySpace was a surprise) you were saying that in the future the most popular users would have hundreds of thousands of subscribers and so on... it's crazy that it actually happened!
The one problem I have with Youtube is that no matter who does what, it's ALWAYS the same fucking people that get the views and the attention. There are lots of great and wonderful Youtubers out there, but have you heard of them? No, because all the views and attention are going to these talentless hacks who either put on a wig and makeup, or just talk about shit no one cares about.
The Youtube rich get Youtube richer, and everyone else can fuck off. That's what this site has turned into.

I miss the 2006-2007 era of Youtube when there was a strong community and many big tubers knew other tubers and those big users had a massive 10,000 subscribers rather than 2 million. I actually miss some of those old users who were funny and put effort into their videos. Now we have "OMG ITS FRED WAAAAAH" or crossdressing completely unfunny fucks.
I am noticing more former popular Youtubers (like boh3m3, digitalfilmmaker, JamesNintendoNerd) coming back with new videos. Is Youtube paying the former stars to come back to Youtube?
i couldn't agree more. I have been an avid watcher of certain people on youtube and lately I have just been watching complete crapola. I want to know how they feel this is benefitted society. What are they doing to make my "watching time" worth while? Sitting here for 17 minutes watching you play pranks on people is complete crap. AND people are paying to watch that site.

I think that's only partly true. There is still a community, albeit slightly broken. My subscriptions are mostly doing the same stuff they always did even though they are partners. Some are churning out videos just for the money like TAA, but even he makes a good one sometimes. I think we should distinguish the ones who take the money as a pleasant perk from those who have sold their souls for it. brizycomics is free to break his link from that advertiser if he wants to keep his integrity.

For every point you made, I could name one, or many times multiple youtubers that are guilty of what you said. In regards to what you said in your video and some of the comments below, Maddox (watch?v=kXX8X8ikfno) seems to really hit the nail on the head in regards to the big-name youtubers. They produce all this total garbage and people absolutely love it - but if you saw them on the street you wouldn't give a flying fuck about who they were, because they're really not worth giving a damn about.
This needs to be sent around to some of the 'big YouTubers.' The people that need to see it have grown to the point of completely removing themselves from the community. The very essence of YouTube is community - Connecting and communicating with a network of people. To ignore this is to ignore the entire purpose of YouTube! The biggest YouTubers are not always the best. Not the best content providers, and not the best community members! So why are these people practically running the place?!

Sorry for the double post here, I just realized I also meant to mention that your videos now have black bars at the top and bottom of them. So not only are you not in 720p, you're not actaully even in 480p... You're actually at 360p - 640 wide, but only 360 tall, then extended with black borders on the top and bottom. I don't know if this bothers you, I feel like it's a failing of your video editing software settings somehow, I don't know. But I thought you should be aware.
You mentioned that you are using 720p in your last video, and again in this video - but the video actually only goes to 480p. I'm just letting you know in case you haven't noticed. It doesn't make any difference to me, you're just talking here, but you might actually want your video to be working the way you expect it to.
You make very good points. I have several accounts but since Google and You Tube kind of came together I am unable to sign into the other accounts. My main channel has subscribers but the channels I can't sign into have much better names. And I think there should be a rule that young people should be required to watch old peoples videos. Would you remind the young viewers not to screw with old folks. Skate boards are hard to see while driving down the freerway at 25 MPH!
I do agree with your points, but only to some extent. Firstly the celebrity aspect - you will always get celebrities and rivalries between channels, I'm quite happy that this is a medium where "nerds" or "ordinary people", can become famous for their hobbies.
Secondly, do you have any examples of this type of inspiring content to share? I assume you mean things like "UnculturedProject", but so few people can do that. It wouldn't be broadcasting yourself. Any suggestions for cool content?
I'm glad to see you're back making some legitimate videos. I've hardly been on YT in the past few years since channels like yours began to die off around '07 or so, frankly because it fucking sucks now. This sort of stuff really brings back the 'Broadcast Yourself' feel of the site that used to exist so long ago. Keep it up, for the sake of humanity.

Who made you youtube police? This is only your opinion, it doesn't mean you're right. Everybody does what they have to do to be successful. If someone can get rich and famous off youtube (justin bieber), what's wrong with that? Whenever people get any type of success, others start saying they sold out. Guess what, youtube wasn't made for you alone. Throw your cellphone away, you're selling out. Real people use landlines.

I kinda understand where you're coming from but I actually don't mind some of the news shows like what sxephil does. I think that he puts out the news in a way. There are people out there that don't go to pages like CNN or MSNB or read a newspaper. People like sxephil put it out there in a quirky way that makes it interesting to people.

I love how one of the old "big youtubers" feels exactly the same way as I do. You Tube doesn't feel the same to me as it did 3 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I love that I can catch TV on demand but I hate the direction the content creators have gone. Back in the day when people would be checking every day to see if Smosh had knocked LonelyGirl15 off of the top spot. Back when getting featured made you have the biggest orgasm you ever had. Urgh.

No one is obliged to explore and try new things, and they aren't just catering to their subscriber base by doing the same thing over and over. People subscribe to these channels to see this person do this thing. You don't see magicians making joking because they are obliged to explore the creative realm. What's really impressive about these people that do the same thing over and over is they still entertain every time. Like you.

Very astute summary of youtube. One word in particular really caught my attention: DEHUMANISING. Bingo. What the fuck is the point of me pouring my heart out in a comment when I see it swallowed up in a sea of other people pouring their hearts out (or in some cases just trolling). 445 comments before me is not bad by today's standards.. but ever building personal rapport with any youtuber I admire seems like a pipe dream these days. I think that's only partly true. There is still a community, albeit slightly broken. My subscriptions are mostly doing the same stuff they always did even though they are partners. Some are churning out videos just for the money like TAA, but even he makes a good one sometimes. I think we should distinguish the ones who take the money as a pleasant perk from those who have sold their souls for it. brizycomics is free to break his link from that advertiser if he wants to keep his integrity.

For every point you made, I could name one, or many times multiple youtubers that are guilty of what you said. None of the people that just show their day to day lives with no other talents other than popping out cute kids or whatnot, deserve no money for their videos. The ones with an actual talent or originality deserve something for their time and effort, no doubt, like MGM or schmoyoho. They produce all this total garbage and people absolutely love it - but if you saw them on the street you wouldn't give a flying fuck about who they were, because they're really not worth giving a damn about.

This needs to be sent around to some of the 'big YouTubers.' The people that need to see it have grown to the point of completely removing themselves from the community. The very essence of YouTube is community - Connecting and communicating with a network of people. To ignore this is to ignore the entire purpose of YouTube! The biggest YouTubers are not always the best. Not the best content providers, and not the best community members! So why are these people practically running the place?!

Sorry for the double post here, I just realized I also meant to mention that your videos now have black bars at the top and bottom of them. So not only are you not in 720p, you're not actaully even in 480p... You're actually at 360p - 640 wide, but only 360 tall, then extended with black borders on the top and bottom. I don't know if this bothers you, I feel like it's a failing of your video editing software settings somehow, I don't know. But I thought you should be aware.

You mentioned that you are using 720p in your last video, and again in this video - but the video actually only goes to 480p. I'm just letting you know in case you haven't noticed. It doesn't make any difference to me, you're just talking here, but you might actually want your video to be working the way you expect it to.

You make very good points. I have several accounts but since Google and You Tube kind of came together I am unable to sign into the other accounts. My main channel has subscribers but the channels I can't sign into have much better names. And I think there should be a rule that young people should be required to watch old peoples videos. Would you remind the young viewers not to screw with old folks. Skate boards are hard to see while driving down the freerway at 25 MPH!

I do agree with your points, but only to some extent. Firstly the celebrity aspect - you will always get celebrities and rivalries between channels, I'm quite happy that this is a medium where "nerds" or "ordinary people", can become famous for their hobbies.
Secondly, do you have any examples of this type of inspiring content to share? I assume you mean things like "UnculturedProject", but so few people can do that. It wouldn't be broadcasting yourself. Any suggestions for cool content?

I think it's kind of funny how much of this applies to sxephil when I only found sxephil in the first place through boh3m3's channel back in the day (whether it was through a personal recommendation or a video response or whatever, I don't remember...it's been 3 years..).
And, honestly, though there are many interesting points in this vid, to some extent it comes off as more bitter than anything. LIke boh3m3 is just angry that he missed his chance to use his fame to make money off of this.

People like Freddie Wong make alot more amazing videos that should be promoted, not someone like Fred or RWJ.. Compared to FW they're talentless. Or Joenation has a series going on I enjoy watching.. I know you probably won't read this but I agree with EVERYTHING you've said in this video and me and my friends (who used to be big YouTube lurkers and watched a lot of your videos) have been complaining ever since the huge fucking Google catastrophe that the commercialisation has completely ruined this website and made it more of a contest of "who can be the richest" than "who can struggle to grasp fame on YouTube"

Eh, I've been around since 2006 and (even if I don't make vids), I've never really left. The community is still there. Yes, it has changed, but it's still there.
